It's been a blast Gringo and a lot of hard work that has been much appreciated. Cheers me old mate and ta very much for running it for so many years!

Beam me up Scotty, well not you Scotty but the Scotty who can beam people up! Starting to get a bit unbearable already down here. Like Kingsmills I've also never been in the ABE camp with my wife being Ingerlish and my kids born down here but the arrogance is starting to get to all of us in the Canary household. I'm meeting very few people showing any respect for the opposition (including the upcoming Italians!), no humility at all and absolutely zero tolerance when it comes to accepting that dodgy decisions have gone their way. Apparently Messrs Kane and Sterling have no idea what diving is! As far as most I've spoken with are concerned it was a done deal before the competition even started. So my apologies to the Gringoes and any of the other lovely English folk we have following the CaleyJags but I'll be having pizza for dinner on Sunday and the Morettis are already chilling in the fridge - Salud!

Thanks for the updates tonight guys!

Same for me, I had already prepared myself for a repeat of past disappointments so this time wasn't so disappointed. Always thought the key to getting through would be beating the Czech Republic in the opening game, I fully expected to get at least a point at Wembley and thought our toughest task would be Croatia. They finally found their gears against us and showed why they were World Cup finalists. Of course our poorest performance of the tournament helped them with that. Anyway, onwards and upwards, the experience will have done the squad a power of good and I'm more excited about the forthcoming World Cup campaign than I have been since the '80s.

Find it hard to believe right enough! The Willie Johnston affair prompted me to write my only letter to a newspaper editor. I told the Daily Express I'd never read their rag again and I never have. Feel gutted for young Billy. He must have been so up for the Croatia game, I don't think they'd have been able to handle him.

Yep I agree, I've been crossing everything for a move here to Norwich so he can play alongside Kenny McLean and Grant Hanley. It's the sort of club Ryan could thrive at...
-
Absolutely - I wasn't looking forward to this until I saw the team selections, superb job all round! So here we go again for the third and deciding match, just like '74 and '78 - the forlorn optimism is now dialled up to restored peak levels. Same again please with the added Archie Gemmill spirit and magic finish
-
Not seen him play but he is a highly respected prospect. Norwich have developed some great talent over the last few years and I think this is an excellent bit of business. Highly encouraging news over the last coulee of days, well done to all involved.

Fear not Kingsmills, a win against them might be enough to fulfil your original criteria! As long as we can avoid making silly mistakes at the back I think this afternoon has shown that we can create the chances. A wee bit more composure in front of goal when they come with a wee bit more luck and we may very well do it - I can sense the 70s and 80s feelings of forlorn optimism creeping back in again
-
Well those of you under 30 will now know what your parents and grandparents had to endure for 3 decades - was amazed at how quickly all those disappointing moments flooded back into mind, a most unwelcome afternoon of deja-vu!
-
Absolutely Robert, Simon Kjaer's quick action could very well have made the crucial difference in the successful resuscitation attempt. Quite amazing how he kept his head and handled what was happening around him. I couldn't believe they agreed to complete the game on the night, astonishing decision in my mind, but would the Danes have been in any better shape the next day? Perhaps not. Anyway, from a footballing perspective, the match stats really highlighted that it doesn't matter how much possession and attempts at goal you have, the only thing that counts is putting the ball in the net. A cruel night for Denmark all round.
-
Aye Robert I'm with you there - hope is indeed eternal, however, I don't think I can cope with a repeat of the three decades of glorious disappointment we endured in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I'll be happy whatever the outcome as long as we take 3 points away from Wemberley...
-
Tremendous experience for the lads to have had no matter how much game time they got which should boost their confidence and benefit us greatly. Couldn't be a better advertisement for tempting young talent to our club - a grand job by all involved in the Academy youth development, well done all
-
Yep, seems to be a buyers' market at the moment, reckon there could be some good business to be done a few weeks further down the line. Not too concerned at all...

Welcome back Doddsy, all the very best for a successful spell as our boss!

Looks like it's going to be a very competitive league next season with no clear favourites to go up or down. Question marks over how Hamilton and Kilmarnock will cope with the drop, especially with the news that Killie are to shed so many of their squad, and whether Ayr and Arbroath can maintain the level they've been playing at. I would imagine that after the scare of the relegation play-off Morton will be pushing a bit harder next season. The Fifers will both rate their chances quite highly, while both QotS and Partick should be in the mix and pose a threat. I don't think any of them are better placed than us and I'm looking forward to an exciting season where we shouldn't have to be worrying about the bottom end of the table and have as good a chance as anyone else to take the title - but that new 'head coach' appointment is absolutely crucial...
-
No thank you, once was enough! Cannot see his ego working well alongside Robbo...
-
Aye but how boring is that - nowt wrong with a good bit of idle gossip, rumour and banter to brighten up the summer months.
-
Quite agree about the involvement of the Colts teams Jack but I was never a fan of including clubs from the other countries. It was a bit of a novelty but I thought it tended to devalue the tournament, despite the quality of the teams taking part. It is after all a Scottish tournament and think the addition of the Lowland and Highland league clubs is an improvement.

Well done that man, bragging rights at Gringo Towers is no mean feat!
-
Well done Calum, that was a tight run contest this year so a very worthy win, well deserved bragging rights in the household! Have to echo the thanks to Gringo for the running of all 3 comps - that takes some effort so cheers pal, you done good! Can understand the drop in numbers for the prediction league as per Robert's post, for any new members it's hard to find if you don't know where to look or even that it's there in the first place. My favourite comp (and the most frustrating coz we all get so many wrong!) is the NAPS contest - great fun! Looking forward to next season already - what you gonna do with all the spare time on your hands now Gringo?
-
Brechin v Stenhousemuir draw @ 3.80 ta... ...can't wait to see the outcome of the Generation Game at the top of the table!
-
Well done MrCJ many congrats and many thanks Gringo for all your hard work throughout the season - we do appreciate it! Cheers
-
Cheers for all the effort this week Gringo. I kicked myself when I got to work on Thursday night as I'd forgotten the games were on that night, so knocking them on the head was a result! QotS @ 4.33 please

I think he is a man of integrity and will stick with the original plan/deal - can't see him stepping on Robbo's toes at all. A continuing cushy life as a TV pundit may be quite appealing but I'm sure he'd love a full time management opportunity somewhere. That said, if the situation with us changes and the opportunity arises, well you never know, a Neil and Billy double act feels quite appealing now...
