  1. In that scenario, assuming Aberdeen had finished 2nd or 3rd in the league, I'd say. yes, we'd get the Euro spot!
  2. He wouldn't come back here unfortunately. Sam Winnall was being discussed on The Football League Show last night. He's now top scorer in League Two and the discussion was centred around how he was a steal for his club (Scunthorpe United) who didn't have to pay a penny for him. A thinly-veiled dig at Butcher also when Steve Claridge said something along the lines of his previous manager not rating him but football's all about opinions!
  3. Just looking at the all-time stats, it's only 1 win in 9 games against Stranraer. Had never thought of them as a bogey-team, but that, they are!
  4. I don't think runners-up in the Scottish Cup this year will qualify for Europe through that route.* A loss to Celtic (assuming they're League champions) in the Final would have seen the runners-up qualify - but that can't happen now, obviously! I agree with Kingsmills, that if both finalists have already qualified then 4th in the 'Premiership' would get in. *A potential caveat could come in the unlikely scenario where Rangers win the cup. They're a new club and need 3 years of audited accounts (I believe) before they can compete in European competitions. In that instance, I think the runners-up would get into Europe.
  5. League Two Rory McAllister (Stirling albion 1-2 Peterhead) Highland League Andrew Greig TWO GOALS (Brora Rangers 9-0 Keith) Stuart Soane (Lossiemouth 1-1 Forres Mechanics) Zander Sutherland (penalty) (Brora Rangers 9-0 Keith) English League Two Sam Winnall (Scunthorpe United 1-1 Chesterfield) Indonesian Super League Thierry Gathuessi (Arema Cronus 5-0 Persik Kediri)
  6. The SFA have updated the list, confirming Meekings' yellow card and Warren's suspension.
  7. I actually despise music after goals! To me it's a gimmicky annoyance. When did this creep into the game?! We managed fine in the 'old days' without it. The roar of the crowd or the stunned silence does for me. I think Archie Gemmill's wonder goal in the World Cup would have been tarnished with a sudden rendition of "just can't get enough"! (ok, it hadn't been written then, but you get my point!)
  8. I know it's a rhetorical question, IHE, but thinking back, for a Highland League team to mobilise that many troops was incredible. Likely went some way to convincing the central-belters of Inverness's viability when the League admission vote came a couple of years later. Not sure if it's urban legend, but reputedly some Caley fans were locked out! But anecdotal evidence suggests there may have been as many as 5,000 Caley fans there?
  9. Championship Andy Barrowman (Dumbarton 2-2 Livingston)
  10. How about, more accurately, We Are Caley Thistle....?
  11. I posted it before it became apparent that the train operators may try to help. Getting from Queen Street Station (assuming it's on time) and into your seat at Parkhead in 25 minutes for a cup final when there will be busy traffic, turnstile queues etc will be almost impossible. Even if 2.30 was historically the kick-off time, common sense should see that on this occasion, they could put K.O. back 30 mins to 3pm. And 3pm is the traditional time for the final - yet incredibly, they've gone for 2.30pm when northern fans don't get into central Glasgow until after 2pm. They've not listened, learnt nothing and not taken anything on board from the mismanagement of our semi-final.
  12. It was clear there was 'something in the pipeline' when he quit Alloa.
  13. The dons fans often take those inflatable sheep to big games themselves in an attempt to be ironic!
  14. All recent finals have been 3pm so there's no precedent for this. The 2.30 kick off is a disgrace. They really haven't learned anything from the fiasco of the semi-final arrangements. Seems it was all just 'lip service'.
  15. Aye, the game with Hearts a week-on-Saturday will be 'interesting' - their first game since their capitulation. It's funny how often football throws-up these type of scenarios!
  16. Stephen Rennie? I haven't heard of him - a name I'll look out for. I wonder if he's related to Connor Rennie who was a reserve player for us a few years ago?
  17. Nothing on the SPFL website but this link seems to suggest Celtic Park. http://aberdeen.stv.tv/69421/
  18. A bit spooky starting this thread the same day as the fixtures are announced! So here's the updated list. A very busy spell of 7 games in 21 days from the League Cup Final to the County game before the split. Also notable is, despite the congestion, we've no home league games for over a month after Hibs visit on 18th February.......a period that sees us having 4 consecutive away league games at St Johnstone, County, Celtic and Motherwell! Saturday 8 February Stranraer (a) Cup 5th round Saturday 15 February Hearts (h) Tuesday 18 February Hibernian (h) Saturday 22 February St.Johnstone (a) Tuesday 25 February Ross County (a) Saturday 1 March Celtic (a) Saturday 8 March (Scottish Cup Quarter-final) Sunday 16 March League Cup Final v Aberdeen (n) Wednesday 19 March Motherwell (a) Saturday 22 March Partick Thistle (h) Wednesday 26 March Dundee United (a) Saturday 29 March St. Mirren (h) Tuesday 1 April Motherwell (h) Saturday 5 April Ross County (a)
  19. That's what I get for trying to be a smart-ass, Mantis!
  20. 3-0 to us at FT according to Twitter with Adam Evans (2) and Ryan Christie the scorers.
  21. I'm not sure why they've elected to go for Celtic Park. I would have thought a 90% full Ibrox would be better than a 75% full Celtic Park, assuming a crowd of as much as 45,000. It'll be interesting to here their logic, but I doubt they'll reveal anything!
  22. 'Helicopter Sunday' was actually when it was between us or Clyde for promotion - but we were playing St. Johnstone that day.
  23. That's a strong line-up with 8 first-team players.
  24. To be honest, Aberdeen have been good at penalties of late. They struggled past Alloa Athletic at Pittodrie in the 2nd Round of this competition - before we'd even got involved! - on penalties...but they got 6 out of 6. And, in all competitions they've netted 13 from their last 15 pens. I wish I hadn't done it now, but I texted a mate in Aberdeen after they'd scraped by Alloa..."you'll probably win it now" Tongue in cheek. Fook!
  25. BBC Sport have got an article entitled something like '10 things you should know about Caley Thistle' (sic) This patronising article, which I must say, has clearly used wiki for its source as it's word-for-word in many instances, is something we'll have to get used to in the next few weeks. Don't get me wrong, I love any, and all exposure ICT get in the national media, but we're going to get the Loch Ness, haggis, kilts, etc. nonsense thrust upon us, as if we've come from nowhere to reach the final. We're an established team in Scotland and have been for a long time. This faux, suddenly discovered, better-do-an article on them, 10-things-you-ought to know, type bullshit, pisses me off!
