Rooney offski - confirmed
Whilst I wish Adam all the best, I am disappointed he's opted for B'ham City. It's not so much that I am a Villa man myself, but because at Birmingham he will be playing alongside the odius Marlon King.

Andrew Greig (No 18 tonight v Clach)
George Best was pretty small too. The thing is, you play to your strengths. If you have small skillful players you keep the ball on the deck, if you have tall strikers you play the high ball - if you have Andy Barrowman you go into the transfer market.

Another Hearts player misbehaving
It's still on the website. Absolutely extraordinary statement. One shudders to think how many Hearts players would be in prison or sold into slavery were it not for the honorable Mr Romanov looking after the welfare of these poor naiive innocents.

Terry Butcher backs team GB
This is all very interesting and is a reflection of the unique status of the home nations within the United Kingdom. One the one hand nobody seems to object to the fact that there is "team GB" for just about every sport under the sun but yet there is this furore about football. If we obect to Scottish players being part of a UK team then surely we should object to the whole concept of a British team in the Olympics and instead have separate teams as in the Commonwealth Games. It seems to me that the only reason most folk object to Scottish participation in a UK team is the fear that Fifa will insist on a single team for the UK in all tournaments. This Fifaphobia is a pretty poor reason to deny the UK a team in the Olympics for a sport which we invented. I understand that fear but I don't share it. I can understand other nations questioning why the UK should have 4 teams and as the individual home nations are not independent states there is clearly a good argument for there being only a UK team allowed. But that being the case, one might argue, why has there not been a move to force a single team on us before now? Why wait for an Olympic UK team? The answer to this is that regardless of the political argument, a UK team would be stronger than any of the Home Nations on their own and therefore more likely to win things. If we were more likely to win things, other nations would be less likely to win and why would they vote for that? It would be like turkeys voting for Christmas. Think of the stronger England teams over the years and add in the likes of George Best, Ryan Giggs, Denis Law, Kenny Dalgeish and Pat Jennings into the mix! Blatter can threaten and huff and puff all he likes but having team GB in the Olympic football competition will not lead to the end of the Home Nations as members of Fifa. Going ahead with team GB would give a number of important messages to Blatter and they are

BBC Goals of the Season
Kilmarnock's goal against us is the pick of the bunch. I know it is against us but it is a joy to watch. Had that been Barcelona in the Champion's League the media would never have stoped talking about. Good intricate passing movement, brilliant final ball, great first touch from Kelly and a sublime finish. They really don't come much better than that.

Merged: Transfers
Having captured Munro and Duncan and got shot of Barrowman, County should be good bets for promotion.

New signing(s) to be announced.....
The signings I am looking for are further extensions to the Butcher and Malpas contracts. They are contracted to the end of next season only. A clear commitment to the club from the management team makes it easier for players to show some level of commitment. When you look at how few of the team have contracts beyond the end of next season the future looks far from clear. The Board should ensure that any player or member of the management team they really want to keep should never be on a contract of less than a year.

Marlon King
I wonder if the signing of Marlon King was done against the wishes of McLeish and this is why he has resigned? It appears McLeish informed the club of his resignation by email whilst abroad on holiday. Neither the club nor McLeish have released any reasons for his resignation but if this is the reason, the man would rise hugely in my estimation.

Canadian Grand Prix
All too often F1 is mind numbingly boring but this was something else. What a brilliant drive by Button! But regardless of his talent, the excitement would not have been there had it not been for the weather which created incidents and then got the safety car out which bunched up the field on several occasions. They really should schedule Grand Prix in locations and times of the year when rain is highly likely. Not only does it lead to excitement for the fans, the constantly changing conditions make it much more of a challenge both for the drivers and the constructors with the result that the winners of wet races are more often the top drivers behind the wheel of adaptable all round performing cars rather than the fastest car regardless of which muppet is driving. It has been suggested that tracks should be watered to lead to more challenging conditions but the powers that be rejected the idea on the grounds that it introduced unnecessary and avoidable risk. If the drivers were not prepared to compete where there was risk they would refuse to drive in conditions like on Sunday. Nobody is forcing the drivers to drive so if they don't want to face the extra challenge a watered track would offer then they don't have to sign their multi million pound contracts. Wet races also have their comedy moments too. This made me laugh yesterday but it could have been very serious. http://news.bbc.co.u...ne/13748154.stm Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!

Pars sign Barrowman!
I have now recovered from the shock of this news and whilst I am sorely tempted to take the opportunity to indulge in a bout of Barrowman baiting, I think there is a serious question to be asked here. That question is; "why?" I think it fair to say that most fans' view would be that Barrowman is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. But yet managers seem keen to sign and then play him. Apart from a brief spell with County in Division 2 he has not shown anything that would lead one to think he can play at Division 1 level and certainly not SPL level. Yet he was the preferred choice in the starting line up at ICT even several months into the Butcher era and only lost his place when a Rooney hatrick demonstrated to anyone who still needed convincing (i.e. Buitcher) that Rooney was a far better player. Having left ICT he went to County and continued his miserable run of form. To be honest, County have a pretty reasonable midfield and create a number of chances but this last season's reports of County games have been littered with phrases such as "the best chance of the game fell to Barrownan but he tamely shot wide form 6 yards" or words to that effect. Barrowman's failure to score anything like an acceptable number of goals was a significant factor in County entering the relegation dog fight but still he continued to be a regular in the starting line up even when Calderwood took over. Despite that, an SPL side have signed him! I find that astonishing. It may be that Barrowman is impressive in training, but whether he is or isn't cuts no ice if he can't then translate that to performances on the pitch. Surely his record speaks for itself and I for one cannot see what it is about him that impresses managers and I cannot think of a reasonable answer to my question. McIntyre says that he has signed Barroman as a target man. He's that all right. He is easy to find because his movement is so poor. But what is the point of a target man if he can't do anything with the ball when he gets it? The reality is that the only target he is likely to be is a target for the Pars fans.

GRANT MUST STAY !
I do think this is a strange one. I can't think County will be paying Grant more than he was getting with us. At 30 he has still got a few years at the top. If Terry didn't rate him sufficiently to keep him in the squad next season, why has he been an automatic choice virtually all this season? Either Terry has got a couple of top class defenders all but signed or there is some serious stuff behind the scenes. I'm not in the slightest bit suprised he has moved to County - he's a brilliant signing for them. I wish him all the best - up to a point, of course. A cup game against County next season could well be interesting and would certainly be one I would not be too confident of winning.

Lookalikes

Can't see any likeness between Esson and Button in these pictures or any other but Richie Foran and Russell Howard is a good shout. And there's a picture of a footballer on the front page of the Sunday Herald who looks remarkably like - Oh God! what's his name? Memory's not what it was.- AFC Wimbledon - fan power wins
Completely agree. Good luck to them The episode of the former club relocating to Milton Keynes showed complete contempt for the fans. Good also to see that MK Dons are out of the play-offs. It will be a good day for football when AFC Wimbledon finally get ahead of them.- Who is ICT's most underrated player
Ryan Esson. Underrated by Craig Levein.- Neil Lennon and Bombs
Fine sounding words from Smith - but do you believe him? He says he has no time for the sectarian aspect which attaches itself to the old firm. So what has he done about it in the years over the last 25 years when he's been at Ibrox? He may not have incited it as Lennon has but it is as deeply ingrained at Ibrox as it is at Celtic Park. If he has no time for the sectarian aspect he should have walked away from it or done something about it. He did neither. Guilty by association in my book.- Neil Lennon and Bombs
Lots of things Lennon has said and done make people dislike him strongly and stir up sectarian rivalries, but nothing Lennon has ever said or done justifies the threats and abuse he and his family have faced. But the real culprits here are not Lennon or those who over-react to his odious remarks and actions. The real culprits are Celtic FC who continue to employ Lennon . Celtic are supposed to be signed up to stamping out bigotry from football but their continuing support for Lennon allows and encourages these tensions to simmer and boil over. All the debate about the rise in sectarianism in football would not be happening if Celtic had not employed Lennon in the first place or had dispensed with his services as soon as his behaviour showed he is not fit to manage a football club. - Lookalikes
