I wouldn't be surprised if he has a minimum fee release clause that is much much lower than any other the figures you talk about. I have no idea whether or not he has any such clause, but it is not uncommon for players (especially highly rated ones) to sign a contract extension with the club they are happy at, but to keep their options open and ensure they can move easily if they wish.
