  2. United Preview After coming out of the blocks in striking form, Inverness travel to Tannadice this Saturday to take on Dundee United at the scene of an amazing game last season. If this game is half as entertaining as that fixture then we will be in for a treat, but let's not afford United a three goal start this time. Capital Caley has been running the rule over these two contenders and has this preview ready for your eyes ahead of the second SPFL fixture of the season Caley Thistle head to Tannadice top of the SPFL Premiership. As we look down on the rest of the teams, there is confidence within the support that we can stay there for another week. However Dundee United will be a stern test and look dangerous going forward. Last season ICT scored 8 goals against the Arabs in the first two fixtures between the teams, with the most memorable one being the 4-4 draw at Tannadice. United had been 3-0 up and ICT clawed them back only for the Arabs to convert a last minute penalty. ‘We're gonna win 4-3’ were the chants from some of the fans whilst 3-0 down. I’m sure this tactical sing song spurred the players on. Unfortunately the last time the two teams met, a late goal from the Arabs resulted in a 2-1 defeat and proved pivotal in scuppering our European ambitions. Revenge on Saturday in the City of Discovery will help us to forget about that though. Many of the usual faces will be travelling to Dundee with the Centenary Bar on Clepington Road a meeting place for many of the Caley Thistle fans wanting a pre match pint. However It will be sad to not see Mikey Diamond making his usual appearance with his big flag. He will be missed at the games. There’s a new security company in charge at Tannadice now. The old Securitay company raised eyebrows in the past so hopefully the new lot are a bit more fan friendly! United kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Partick Thistle. If it wasn’t for the heroics of the Partick goalkeeper United could have scored a few. It was a tough test for Manager Jackie McNamara who had to endure a barrage of loud tutting and disapproving looks from supporters of his former club. David Goodwillie will be making his first appearance at Tannadice since returning to his former club. He’s an incredible acquisition for the Arabs that could be the difference between top and bottom six. Former Patick Thistle Captain Paul Paton is another summer signing that could cause problems. United also added Calum Butcher to their squad during the summer. Butcher certainly caught the attention of many fans with his heavy challenges during the Partick Thistle game. A no nonsense tough defender, no relation to Terry though! ICT are likely to go with the same line up that destroyed the Midden last week with Dean Brill looking like a fine replacement for Antonio Reguero. We all need to know something though. Has he ever heard of Tain? The last time Caley Thistle won their first 2 games was back in 1998. We finished runners up in Division 2 that season. A strong start to the season will get us dreaming of a league position that a year ago we would have thought impossible. CapitalCaleys prediction:- The fixture has produced some very high score lines in the past. We like to score 4 against United! Both teams look dangerous going forward with Billy McKay and David Goodwillie the danger men for ICT and Dundee United. 0-0.
  3. The less TV games for us the better. Keeping as many games at 3pm on Saturday is what I want. The Scotland v Ireland Shinty international is on the Saturday of the County game so the Friday change is convenient. A weekend of sport and beer! ;) Edit: Actually got my dates wrong. The home leg is the following weekend.
  4. I agree. Any Sevconian who has read his autobiography considers him a traitor. Which, I as someone who dislikes the old Rangers and dislikes Sevco am very happy about.
  5. 1. Raigmore Hospital, Inverness 2. Inverness 3. 1992, Telford Street 4. Glasgow (studied at Edinburgh for a few years as well).
  6. He was such a nice man. Away games won't be the same anymore without Mikey. R.I.P
  7. HT: 2-1 FT: 4-1 1st ICT: McKay 1st Opp: Harkins Time of 1st Goal: 7th minute.
  8. The £2 difference between this and the Rovers game clearly made the difference. He'll be playing 10p Bowling soon :)
  9. Not a great match and not a great performance i'm afraid. Rovers were the better team. First half we were terrible. Struggling to string passes together and hoofing the ball up to Billy McKay on his own. The defence looked shaky. We were extremely fortunate to be only 2-1 down at half time. Although Ben Greenhalgh clearly has good skill he was being pushed off the ball far too easily and needs to toughen up. Liam Polwarth came on in second half and we improved from that moment. I thought that Polwarth was one of the stand outs. A huge positive. Doran also had a good game as did Raven. Goodness knows what was wrong with Warren however. Probably his worst performance in an ICT shirt. He looked nervous and lost the ball on a few occasions. He played well against Elgin the previous week though so hopefully this was a one off performance. Rovers fans treated us very well and we had some great craic in 'Styx' pre and post match. They all hate Derek Adams :) Although there were good performances from a few players, far too many had an off day. We must do better.
  10. I'm not too clued up on employment law issues but I was thinking the same thing myself! Although, I would ideally want other candidates to apply as well as I am far from happy with either of the candidates. Before I even read about the 'bonus' and the contract situation for Longmuir, I wasn't wanting him near the top job. Now I am certain. His pro Sevco agenda does not sit well either. If it's out of these 2, then Donkey it is for me!
  11. Who do you want as the new SPFL Chief Executive? It's a straight vote between these two. Personally I think that others should be allowed to apply for the position. Ideally I wouldn't have Donkey or Longmuir any where near the job. But if I HAD to choose, i'd go for Donkey. What does everyone else think?
  12. Unless you are Richard Brittain. Or Uncle Roy just decides to register you. Just 'cos he wants to! Or unless you are Jim Calder.
  13. I‘ll confirm what i‘m doing by Monday.
  14. Down at Tynecastle they‘ll build....
  15. I found this table online. Quite interesting. ICT are 9th in the all time rankings.
  16. It's most pleasing to think that Elgin are one bad season away from getting punted back to the Highland League!
  17. Funnily enough there are only 2 teams in Div 3 right now that would go into the Highland League if they were relegated. Elgin and Peterhead. (Albeit they aren‘t actually in the Highlands but their former HL status would probably see them go there rather than the Lowland League).
  18. Kowloonatic, you'll definitely get to see a game even if we're ( Inverness CT) away. Ross County (SPL) are in Dingwall not far north and likely to be scheduled home if Inverness are away (trains from Inverness go there - the Wick/Thurso service). Then as you suggest, Clachnacuddin. Local Highland League team. Short walk from the centre of the city. Nairn County and Forres Mechanics are also Highland League and they're on the train line to Aberdeen from Inverness. Just out of interest, what team do you support? Are you drunk!? You‘ve just suggested a visitor to the area should go to Dingwall. Tut tut. Avoid Dingwall at all costs!!!
  19. Forget all my concerns! My bad :) Regan has confirmed all 18 HL teams will remain. There will be 10 initially in Lowland League with the view to making it bigger. In regards to the relegation scenario, there may be occasions where one league is imbalanced. i.e. 1 HL team promoted but a Lowland team relegated. In that case, they will look at opening membership up to any fitting team or simply have an odd number of teams in the L/H league that season.
  20. Im pretty sure that I read in the press when it was first announced that there will be ten from HL invited into the new set up. That would indeed be a new league. I am not 100% sure however and it may have just been lazy journalism.
  21. So if a Highland team beats say Albion Rovers in a play off final, who then replaces the Highland team in the Highland League? Surely Albion Rovers would go into the Lowland League. One very alarming point is that the Lowland League will only have ten teams. Does this mean that the Highland League will be reduced to ten teams? Priority should be given to the actual Highland clubs - Clach, Fort William, Brora, Wick, Nairn and Strathspey Thistle. But I fear IF it is reduced to ten teams we shall lose some of these teams. Unfortunately priority will probably be given to Lowland teams such as Cove. Unless the Lowland teams playing in the Highland League right now are invited to join the Lowland set up. Has anyone heard about the number of places available for the ‘new‘ Highland League?
  22. Because he's 'simply the best'? No thanks. I'd rather see Thomson come north. For those of you at the League Cup match against Stenhousemuir he put in a great shift. Quite incredible it was his first competitive match for Stenny that night too. It was his first professional match full stop. comma, he had a great game exclamation mark!
  23. It reminds me of Captain Picards uniform.
  24. If we dont talk about the merger or wanting to sack the manager - its going to be a long break............ Butcher out!!! We could always talk about the atmosphere at the games. or the catering....... or the stewards
