Who will be the 3 candidates?

Caley Thistle have not approached anyone regarding the position and will draw up a list of the three most favourable candidates after today's meeting (22-Jan-09) at Caledonian Stadium.

Inverness director of football Graeme Bennett claims the Highland club will consider all applicants regardless of nationality or experience.

He said: ?The process for the replacement of the manager has started and that will be ongoing.

?There has already been a fair bit of interest in the position and we are not ruling anybody in or out.

?We have an open book, there is no set criteria, we are just seeing who is available and we will take it from there.

?We are going to sit down and decide who we would like to speak to.

?We have not spoken to anyone about the job yet ? it is up to the board to do that.

?We have gathered some information over the last 24 hours on prospective candidates and the sooner we can arrange interviews the better.?

So if today's board meeting is going to result in three names being put forward then I think they may be:

1) J Robertson

2) A Knox

3) A N Other

I don't think we will see Terry Butcher or Ossie Ardiles on that short-list of candidates being invited for an interview at the club....

Interestingly these are the latest odds and the bookies don't often get it wrong (but where do they get some of these names):

John Robertson 2

Terry Butcher 10/3

Barry Wilson 5

Archie Knox 6

Ossie Ardilles 9

Gordon Chisholm 9

Willie Donnachie 10

Kevin MacDonald 11

Derek McInnes 12

Steven Pressley 14

Eric Black 14

Neale Cooper 16

Colin Calderwood 16

Bruce Rioch 16

Chris Sutton 16

Charlie Christie 16

Stevie Frail 18

Maurice Malpas 20

Colin Hendry 20

Alex Rae 20

Jim Duffy 22

Derek Adams 25

Duncan Shearer 33

Craig Brown 33

Steve Paterson 33

Bobby Williamson 33

Grassa said in one paper last week that they needed somebody who would be 100% comitted. Maybe Robbo should not move too far from his phone just yet. :rotflmao:

Last thing we need at this stage of the game is a pert time / part interested manager.

I would be a lot happier with someone who wll be TOTALLY commited.

Would Robbo consider an assistant job?

I had read that Grassa and whoever else conducted interviews questioned applicants commitment to the cause of keeping ICT in the spl. If Terry Butchers juggling between his international duty then he is not the man for ICT if thats the case. Knox is the man of my choice.

So unless i am mistaken it looks very much like our new man is Butcher?

I think that would be an insult

Robbo as Butcher's assistant?

It's not as daft as it sounds.... Robbo's already here... he knows and gets on well with all the players.

If it wasn't going to work out with Butcher, what with all his other committments, Robbo would be well placed to take over from him.

It's gotta be worth thinking about.

No it wouldnt. Im sure he would count himself very very fortunate to get a job back in football at a club he supposedly loves.

Anyway, i wouldnt want him back at the club, and i wish people would stop posting who managers should appoint as their assistant. Im tired reading that Pele, Dunc, CC, Barry etc etc should all have roles at the club. Lose the 'jobs for the boys' mentality.

Yes, we would all rather have someone who had a 'love for the club' but football doesnt work like this. Get the best man in for the job, and let him appoint the man he feels will best support him doing his job.

Butcher might be delighted to have Robbo as his assistant... and I agree that Robbo would be very pleased to get a job back in football again.

the guardian are reporting butcher will be offered the job after the board picked him as the preferred candidate tonight.he met fraser and bennett today and will bring malpas as number 2. contract till end of season. should be announced tomorow they say. really must learn how to do those linky things :rotflmao:

Maybe. But who are we, and by that I mean ICT, to decide. Let the Manager pick his own right hand man. Couldnt care who the assistant is, as long as the manager trusts him.

Knox is on 400K a year for doing nothing - no wonder he wasn't interested.... :rotflmao:

So.... It's up to him now....

I still say we need more than a part-time manager...

So if Butcher turns it down the job goes to Robertson....so Butcher has not actually said yes yet - so I guess he will confirm either yes or no tomorrow morning....interesting article....

I would question that as Robbo hasnt actually been interviewed

Edited as just found out I was wrong about that.

So if Robertson has never been interviewed then all the major paper stories are wrong including this one...s**t Sutton will probably turn up tomorrow.... :rotflmao:

He was interviewed by Grassa/Fraser lunchtime Friday at Dunain Park Hotel. For whatever reason, he did not want to mention this on-air on Saturday.

If he doesn't want to be a full-time 100% committed manager of Caley Thistle then Butcher should be told to take a running jump.

If this turns out to be the end game then Grassa and the board have messed it up again. Wouldn't surprise me one bit given their track record.

Advice for the board.

If you want to strengthen the balance books give all of your money to the bookies to bet on the manager that your going to select.

Given our Boards recent record....they'd even get that one wrong :rotflmao:

If this is true then it is great news.

And stop this nonsense about being the assistant manager of a team that plays 5 or 6 games a year being a bad thing. Him being the national team assistant is a good thing for us.

If he says yes then I really do think he and Maurice Mispass can keep us up.

The board must have been satisfied with his commitment and we have to hope that the board have made the right desision and get right behind him
