HA HA - Look at Elgin City now!

I find myself strangely saddened to see our once great rivals (I speak as a mortal Howden Ender of old) propping up the rest of Scottish football.

Nil points from 6 games - quite tragic really.

I remember being in awe of an Elgin City team who swept all opposition aside back in the 60s, and who became the only non-league team ever to reach the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Matches against City always had an extra edge - more so than against County or Thistle, as I recall.

I genuinely hope they get themselves sorted out and achieve their rightful place - fighting against Ross County to avoid relegation from Division 1!

Against County, Charlie always had a kind word of advice for Irvine. Charlie will be speaking to Sir Alex this weekend at Gleneagles. What message should he text Brian?

"It's hard to accept this result. We are the number one team in the Highland league, the number one team"

Elgin City Chairman after losing out to Caledonian Thistle and Ross County for SFL selection.

...And to think how close Brian Irvine was to getting the County job last season, what a shame that would have been a laugh.  :015:

Well done to Elgin City. A 5-0 home win and a hat-trick for Mr Johnston  :clapping04:

Yup - they finally done it. Hallelujah!!

Sadly, nobody noticed.

Once again they were overshadowed by their SPL neighbours' greater achievement on the same day!

I hope this is their turning point at last, and that they'll make a decent go at a play-off place. Still attainable and very much in their own hands.

Now THAT would be an achievement worthy of note.

Actually they got a 3 minute slot on Your Call when Jim spoke to the management guru that is Brian Irvine. For the first and possibily only time in his broadcasting career Mr Irvine came over as quite articulate and amusing. Doubt it will happen again

Anybody here read 'pointless' that book about East Stirling? They were featured in 4-4-2, Loaded magazine, the works all because they were 'so bad they were cool'.

It's ridiculous that a town the size of Elgin can't even get 1,000 fans. They should be bigger than County if you think about it. I wonder where they'd finish if they went back into the Highland league? Top 5 at best probably.

They should break the bank and bring in Stevie Paterson. He'd get them into the first division within 4 years no problem.

Don't ya just know it - after today's win over the mighty Buckie Thistle they're going to embark on an epic giant-killing Cup run echoing that of the famous City team of the 60's, and we'll  be one of the Giants killed!

Gutted for Brian Irvine, a true gent and insprirational guy, shame it didnae work out for him at Elgin , hope he gets back into the game quickly.Wouldn't be in the least surprised to see Duncan Shearer step into the position, good luck if he goes for it.

Word has it that Williamson is the cheap option with Elgin being unwilling, or indeed unable, to match the wage demands of the other candidates including Iain Stewart despite these demands being relatively modest.

In fact, as I understand it, Iain has signed a playing contract with Inverurie Locos for not much less than he would have been prepared to accept from Elgin for the position of player manager.

The purse strings must be very tight indeed these days on the banks of the Lossie.

Can remember the 2 x 500 packed Special trains leaving Sneck for a Caley Cup game at Elgin in the 70's - 10,000 plus at that one. When was it?
