KDM @ the Rock Live

KDM @ THE ROCK

We face Dumbarton at the Rock on Tuesday night in our re-arranged game in the KDM Trophy last 32 fixtures. There are seven fixtures re-scheduled for the same night after the recent heavy rain and wind postponed these games and we were held up by our Scottish Cup tie against Tranent taking precedence over the KDM fixtures. The draw has already taken place and should we progress, then we will be be away to the winner of the Cove v Partick tie also to be played on Tuesday night.

Inverness had topped the group stages of the competition and our reward for that was avoiding the Championship Clubs who entered the Trophy for the knock-out stages from 32 teams down to a final. Thus we drew Dumbarton away. Here's all the fixtures in the last 16 with the seven games also showing that will be going ahead on Tuesday night...

The Caley Jags are now unbeaten in ten games since we lost 3-1 at Hamilton back on the 4th October and top League1 by 5 points.

Chanka Zimba scored his 13th goal in all competitions at the weekend but took a knock and was replaced by Alfie Bavidge at half time as a precaution. At the extreme end, Billy Mckay notched his 125th goal for the Caley Jags. What a servant he has been!

News from within the Caley Jags camp is that crowd pleasing winger Liam Sole will be with us until the end of the season after Livingston agreed to extend his stay in the Highlands. He said “I’m really happy, I really like it here and I’m in a good place.” He added “I’m really happy to get it all sorted and over the line and I can continue to focus now.”

Top scorer for Sons in the KDM Trophy is wide player Scott Honeyman with

The Sons sit 8th in League2 but come into this game off the back of an excellent 2-0 win over League leaders East Kilbride at the weekend having lost three on the trot. Frank McKeown replaced Steve Farrell on the 5th of December after relegation and a run of poor results and they immediately picked up three points in his first home game following a tough 4-3 defeat at fellow strugglers Edinburgh City.

For anyone not travelling Dumbarton have a stream available for £10 for this one. UK viewers included.

I’ve seen a few wanting us to throw this cup. Personally I don’t see why, we’re almost coasting this league and a cup run is always fun. We have a more than capable squad this season I think.

Kell said in Bar 94 after the Hamilton game on Saturday that his focus had turned to the Dumbarton game, and then reflected on how we’ve done since we went there for his first game at the helm. There was no doubt in my mind that he wants to win this.

He said that we’d 8 or 9 players on the bench on Saturday who could have started the Hamilton game, so I’d expect to see the likes of Logan, Millen, MacIntyre, Alonge, Longstaff and Bavidge start.

Presumably Stewart will not be available having started for Aberdeen B in the group stages.

Getting through and having a likely visit to Partick will give us an indication of how we will shape up against a decent Championship side too.

Same here, not so good though!

Think it’s safe to say we have got though 😂.

Hat trick for Bavidge in the first 31 minutes plus Macleod and Mckay.

With eight changes from Saturday, very encouraging to see the sharpness and keenness of the whole squad.

I logged in using same password that I once logged in to Queen of the South. So if you can check your password manager, you might be able to find the right one.

Absolutely rogering the Sons. Brutal.

Is this our biggest ever half time lead?

Easily. What’s the record? 7-1 or 7-0 v Annan? Ayr away must be close too but we could be making history tonight.

Feel for the Dumbarton team that had to be fielded tonight in this tournament. When the draw was made Dumbarton would have I expect been hoping for a hearts or ‘large’ team so they could make a few bob before being eliminated. The league is far more important to them so I expect they rested a good number of normal first team players.

A lottery score like what we have here just confirms its irrelevance to most clubs after the preseason is finished and the real (league) matches get under way.

Expect double figure goals tonight!

This is the challenge cup, we’re as big as it gets for them.

I fully expect a 7-0 final score but hopefully we can get the record.

Same for us, hence we rested 8 players.

They are being outclassed, outpaced, outfought and will soon be simply out.

The league is our priority too but this cup has been excellent for us in terms of getting game time into the legs of players.

You can only beat what’s in front of you and we are doing it in style.

The other 5 games tonight have no more than 1 goal between the sides at half time.

We have a good squad with some real depth. Any of the guys who get on the pitch tonight will be told they are playing for a place in the starting XI and not simply to see the game out. It will be damage limitation for Dumbarton in the 2nd half so it will probably be harder to score. It would be great to get into double figures though and we certainly have the quality to make that happen.

Anyone know how Alfie Stewart isn’t cup tied?…I’m thinking either it resets after the group stage or (surely not) there’s been an “admin error” and a potentially record result will get chalked off as we get booted out

Yes, must be fun!
