MERGED: McDonald signs for ICT

Can't find it online anywhere but it was on Radio Scotland and confirmed by Grassa that the lad is up here so we can check him over.  No offer has been made yet.

Teletext are reporting he flew up on Sunday and we have made an offer for him which he's considering!! His agent is apparently trying to secure an early release from the final year of his contract

Was Grassa that was quoted as saying no offer had been made yet.

Charlie quoted on Teletext saying we had  :015:

Only 50% of them can be right  :016:

Darn - they both called tails.  We'll have to do it again.

Nothing on any of the football news sites to confirm if/when an offer has been made, but the talk all seems positive and apparently Gillingham won't be asking much for the guy despite him still having a year left on his contract.

Fingers crossed we'll find out one way or another quickly and not have this turn into one of our normal signing sagas  :014:

The Gillingham web site have him taller.

Name: Dean McDonald

Nationality: English

Date of Birth: 19/02/1986

Height: 5' 7" (170cm)

Weight: 11st 0lbs (69.92kg)

Great goal scorer - motivation is apparently the problem.

The 2nd goal in that clip is an absolute peach ! :022:

Each goal is excellent for different reasons.

The first one, for someone so small he can fair head that ball. That wiz timed to perfection.

The second one speaks for itsel

The third one, if you watch the beginning of the clip youll see just how much ground he covers to score that goal

The fourth one is a strikers goal, first touch leaves the defender behind before slotting it past yon keeper.

It says on Wikipedia that he is only 5"4.  Wouldn't it be better if ICT went for someone a bit taller.

Some of the great strikers had short legs. Johnstone, McCoist.

Owen, maradona, messi....

i think in bayne we have a tall striker who can header the ball well. with dargo gone, we lack a pacy striker who can put the ball in the net.

this wee man, from the looks of this youtube video, has the ability to do that, and i reckon it doesn't matter if he is 5 foot 4, as long as he can get on the end of headers and score goals.

Wasn't Dargo only about 5'6"? Maradona was only 5'5" and fat too.

What I'm wondering though is why has Grassa described it as a coup if we sign him? Has anybody, in all honesty, ever heard of him before?

I suspect the whole of the SPL will know who he is soon. :021:

Having watched the video I hope there's more where that came from.

The coup is that IHE never predicted this one

So, no truth in the rumour that his father, ol' MacDonald, had a farm, and is moving the chickens north, including the coups.

His goals certainly look classy, however, from his scoring record he's not exactly prolific. Tht said he fits the classic ICT profile of a player who's youthful potential has stalled just waiting for his career to be put back on the rails.

The trouble is once we do that for them they tend then to head off to partures new and more lucrative.

Charlie and Parky are the only management duo in the country who can see eye to eye with him so he will be a great success.

P&J saying we face competition with Bournemouth for his signature  :rolleyes02:

At least our interest is official now - hope someone has told Grassa  :004:

From Sky Sports Today....

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are closing on a deal for Gillingham striker Dean McDonald.

The SPL club are hoping to sign McDonald on a two-year contract, just 12 months after the player joined Gillingham from Ipswich Town.

He weighed in with six goals in 30 appearances for the Gills, but Inverness boss Charlie Christie feels the 21-year-old is capable of having a better impact in Scotland.

"We met Dean for talks and were greatly impressed by how he spoke," Christie told the Daily Record.

"We asked him if he regarded this as a step up and he said he viewed it as two steps up from Gillingham.

"I've had very good reports from people who know him, but he felt he didn't figure in Gillingham's system and style.

"Director of football Graeme Bennett is working to finalise an agreement with Dean's club and I'm just waiting for the call now to say it's done."

Inverness are also due to hand pre-season trials to Dominique Taboga, of Austrian club SV Kaptenberg, and Admira Wacker's Benedict Bauer.

Christie added: "We'll take one or both with us to Italy depending on how they show up next season.

"They are keen to play in Scotland and know the size and structure of our club. Their CVs are impressive, but I need to see them play."
