Indeed. In fact, I've just read that Man Utd are in the USA playing a glamour friendly that same night! The team they send north will be unrecognisable!.

It's most pleasing to think that Elgin are one bad season away from getting punted back to the Highland League!

A lot is being made of our recent signings being recruited on a national basis rather than a local one and quite a few posters seem to be concerned that our team seems to be increasingly 'foreign' I have just read an article here: http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/inverness/228510-how-does-the-spl-compare-to-europe-in-blooding-under-21s/ which thrown up some very interesting figures on how we compare to other SPL teams and indeed how we compare to other leagues in Europe for homegrown and domestic U21 players I'm reasonably surprised to see us doing well compared to others on playing a reasonably high percentage of Scottish U21s. Our homegrown figure is pretty low but considering that 4 of the top 5 finish teams have figures of less than 6% then it seems to suggest that playing homegrown talent does not guarantee success in the SPL. Motherwell seem to be the only team bucking the trend. Very low homegrown and Scottish U21 figures from our neighbours across the bridge despite claims at the beginning of last season saying how they wanted to sign/play local players. Whilst its almost universally known that most big teams (Barcelona and a couple of others excluded) make their teams up from a multitude of nationalities it is interesting to see that the averages for playing homegrown U21s for countries like England, Spain and Germany all are less than 7%. A lot lower than i would have expected. Personally I am of the opinion that while it would be great to have a team made up of 11 loyal talented local lads playing for their hometown club, realistically this will never happen given that Inverness and surrounding areas have never historically been particularly affluent when it comes to producing footballers capable of playing at the highest levels. Whilst I do not mean this to be disrespectful, I do realise there have been many talented players to be born,bred, raised in the area but the amount of players reaching the upper echelons of the football world have been limited. For that reason I fully understand and back the idea that we will be a club who will recruit wherever necessary to entice players North to play and succeed for us. I feel that discriminating players on the basis of them not being local would be a huge mistake and if we did then the club would probably settle in a position somewhere in the lower divisions. Views? opinions?

I'm struggling to find much sympathy for their plight. You reap what you sow...Hearts have been on shifting sands for some time now. It still irks me to look back to the League Cup semi and Hearts wheeling out 2 new players, Ngoo and Wilson who - although we could and probably should have won - had a significant impact on proceedings. Yes, it's old ground, the Wilson saga and should be put-to-bed but in light of just how much financial plight Hearts obviously were in, it does annoy me. That said, I don't wish the club to go under. Although I don't attend many away ICT games, the few occasions I've been down to Tyncastle have been great days/weekends out!

I blame the high schools. They have failed to embrace any real sporting competitiveness. And teachers, who years before would give up their free time, and drive/coach a team, be it footie, volleyball, whatever, are long gone. That's where the battle is won or lost. cotland must be one of the worst for organized high school sport, certainly in the highlands. Know any good football tournaments between schools?

I don't have concerns about the Highland Leagues teams making the step up. We have a wealth of talented players and well run teams in this division. Someone has pointed out their concern about the calibre of teams in the lowland league. What sort of quality will be on offer here? I would love to see the likes of Wick in the SFL out of sheer spite to those who moan about teams north of Perth being involved.

Let's not forget that other table which shows Cownty with more league points than ICT. Oh how we laughed......

Come on you exiles, these big crowds? can't you organise some charter flights to fill the seats at TS? Just think they would be able to watch some real football

I never actually knew that! It puts some things into perspective for me now, in a different context. Helpful to know. Not strictly true ..... Northern Ireland has had no officially sanctioned flag since 1972, and since 1973 only the union flag (union jack) is permitted, by law, to be flown on (national) government buildings. (see attachment) The Ulster banner was the official flag from 53-72 but ceased to have status when parliament was dissolved in 72. While it is true to say that it is contentious, given that it is still used by loyalists and flown above some local authority buildings where the council is controlled by loyalists (as the flag law does not cover local councils), it is also used to represent Northern Ireland in sports such as football (look at fifa.com) and the commonwealth games where a distinction between home nations is required. The St Patrick's Saltire has no official status although it is the Northern Irish component of the Union Flag. It tends to be viewed as a cross-community symbol with less political baggage than the Ulster Banner, Irish Tricolour, or Union Flags. It is one of two flags authorised by the Church of Ireland to be flown on buildings, and also forms the basis of the Northern Irish police badge. I couldn't care if we played 11 Martians if they perform and work for the team. so the fact that despite us singing 7 young players, all from within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, all willing to relocate to the edge of the arctic circle and without shelling out a fee people on here still find something to complain about is frankly mind blowing. Not a game went by this season when I didn't hear the kids at games saying I like that Gary Warren and Billy McKay but if only they weren't both born south of Tomatin I could enjoy watching them so much more.... I'd take 1 ex PE teaching Gary Warren over 20 Scottish 1st Div/Lower SPL players with an over inflated ego and an unrealistic salary expectation.

Yeh. Well I've played off the bench a few times after coming through the u17s hopefully play more often next season.

Wonder if he claims mileage? If only they still did Tiger tokens - he could have a enough for a crystal glass to toast the highs of our season!!!
