  1. I was struck by Terry Butcher's inept performance on Sportscene. Despite the fact that he was a previous manager of two of the clubs in the Quarter finals, he was introduced as the "former Rangers captain". The fact that he had been our manager was probably why he was asked to be a pundit on the show where the main event was meant to be the ICT game, but apart from the bald facts of the postponement there was no talk about any thoughts about the way the game might pan out. Instead we had chat about the Rangers and Butcher squirming when being asked about his own interest in the manager's role at Ibrox. He wouldn't say yes or no but it was pretty obvious he would give his right arm for the job. Given that his presence on the show was no doubt because of the involvement of Hibs and ICT in the QFs, the irony of how well we and Hibs have done since he left the clubs seemed lost on him. Butcher looked a sad shadow of his former ebullient self and it seems inconceivable to me that Rangers would consider him for the post. But no offers from me to eat my hat if he gets the job - after all, Rangers have done the inconceivable before.
  2. Ownership of the various properties at the Caledonian Stadium always reminds me of Winston Churchill's view of the Soviet Union - "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." Nowadays I tend to take the view that in 2000 over £2 million of debt disappeared (along with ICT's title to the stadium and its site lease) and five years later two rented stands materialised which made possible the playing of SPL football in Inverness so I tend just to say "thank you very much." It effectively means that, as long as the club keeps its books reasonably well in balance on a year by year basis - albeit with some dependence on windfalls like the Mckay transfer - then things look reasonably stable. It's a scenario which should act as a good object lesson lot for the people who come on here and moan that the board aren't being adventurous enough on the transfer market!
  3. Disappointed to see that weather map - St Kilda's derby game against Rockall will be off again!

I have no problem embracing change SP. It simply would not work. Football has enough to compete with when the weather is foul. In the summer , I believe, other distractions would decimate crowds. The changes we need are in league reconstruction, terracing and innovation in price structuring etc. And Alex.........most of the extra traffic on the A9 is in the form of caravans...........and we know where they are heading!
  5. Yeah, they're on a tightrope! At least with the pitch being so soft they are unlikely to injure themselves if they fall off...

Actually it might suit Sri Lanka to lose and finish 4th in the group as they would probably rather play India in the next round than South Africa But for Scotland to finish above England, not only do Scotland need to beat Sri Lanka but England would need to lose against Afghanistan. In addition, Scotland would need to avoid being creamed by the Aussies as otherwise England would have a better net run rate. Nevertheless, the fact that it remains possible with England having just one match to play is pretty depressing from an Englishman's point of view I have to admit. I have no difficulty at all with England enjoying success at cricket and was pleased when they made the Ashes more competitive but the fact is for a large nation with the longest cricketing heritage of all they fall woefully short at the 50 overs game and, in terms of tactics and approach, are a dozen years behind how the other top nations approach the game.

They didn't actually qualify in 2003 and 2011 but have done so on three occasions - 1999, 2007 and 2015 and have lost all 12 games to date when they have qualified.
  8. No... but can we please treat her with a bit of respect. Howl at her by all means if she makes a howler but for goodness sake don't make an issue of her gender. This is 2015 and we are not Neanderthals.

Aye, get yourself a smartphone then. Oh I see, you mean small change
  10. Fair play - this is what I was worried about (Monday isobar chart), but in fairness, it's a great day do far!
  11. A lot of people seem to struggle with Ciftci's name. Allow me to help. You won't be too far wrong with "Chief cheat".
  12. I believe Dave the Rave is training to be a plumber so he has a career after football so is already sorting himself out. He has got to be one of our most consistent performers and a two year deal is the least he deserves in my opinion.

Kingsmills - you are invited to the next Seers Meeting - don't need to tell you where or when.
  14. Its all down to us beating Raith Rovers until then we aint going anywhere. Its a big game for both teams

Which Scotland now never qualify for and only a handful of players who play in Scotland will participate in. Bigger countries than ours have managed to compete in the World Cup and other things while having a summer league, so it's an argument that doesn't wash with me.
  16. I bought them along with the stadium naming rights for £1 last year. You're all gonna love the Big Don Dome once I win the lottery and can afford to build it.
