Just home from sunny Banff, where there was absolutely no reception to do updates. Here's some ramblings on the game... Starting lineup had Esson in goals, with Horner RB, Warren/Devine CB and unkown trialist LB. Draper and another trialist CM, Roberts RM, Doran LM, Tansey ACM, JJ Hooper CF. We started really well, keeping possession at well over 90% ICT for the first 10 mins or so. We then got sloppy with several passes, leading to a Vale corner which they scored from - I think off the head of Horner for an OG. The game was then delayed by around 30 mins after the Vale RB broke his leg really badly leading to an ambulance taking him away. We scored soon after restarting with Doran getting the ball in the arc outside the penalty area and curling the ball into the corner of the net. We went 2-1 up with a cross from the right which was nodded in at the back post from Roberts. Polworth and McKay came on at HT for CM trialist and Esson. A 12 year old child came on for Roberts, with Jason Brown and another young defender replacing Devine and Tansey. In terms of how the new players played... LB trialist - Rotten, absolutely honking. Terrible in possession, naive when defending and was even penalised for a foul throw (after several which also should've been penalised). He went off in the last 10 minutes without being replaced by a sub, I severely hope it was because he was getting punted into a taxi! CM trialist - skilful and athletic, who played quite well in his 45min cameo. Not a position I would prioritise signings for but worth another look. Roberts - impressed by his movement and keenness to get involved. Very happy if he indeed signs. JJ Hooper - Absolutely anonymous. Bullied by an overweight, slow CB pairing. Poor first touch, no pace or strength and looked lost for most of the game.

You are spot on there! And usually doubles! He would just look at the barperson and say "Large!" We will miss Ali hugely. He was a stalwart both of Caledonian and ICT and must be given huge credit for one contribution in particular which was crucial to the formation of ICT. Caley Chairman Norman Miller took a serious heart attack towards the end of 1994 when the merger battle was still at a very critical stage so Ali, as Vice Chairman, stepped in. Within days he found himself chairing the crucial and pretty volatile (bangers exploding in the aisles etc) Third Battle Of Rose Street which finally saw Caley's assets invested in the new club. The manner in which Ali handled that meeting, which completed the final link in the chain, was masterful and it made a huge contribution to what we now see in front of us today. I and my friends, who were often in his company on a Saturday evening, will certainly be having a dram on his behalf in the Social Club tomorrow night. He was a gentleman who will be greatly missed both at the Stadium and at the Social Club.
  4. In keeping with the topic title "Sorry this doesn't look right", here's Shinnie making his competitive debut tonight. Home shorts with away shirt is always a fashion faux pas.
  5. Good point. I had forgotten about that mainly because I can't get to Romania and I am trying to pretend that game isn't happening.

We have seen the players training and playing Errea kit, if they have a new supplier I'm sure they would be sporting some training kit at least! Dissapointed with another late kit release but is this the club's fault or the supplier's? After winning the Scottish cup we had the perfect chance to get a new strip out early and capatilize on a potential new fan base. Id expect some information from the club regarding a release date by now.
  10. I read on BBC website that Curtis Allen, (plus one other Glentoran forward), missed their Europa Q1 tie last night because they were 'away on holiday'. Really surprised that they were allowed to be away for this game which Glentoran lost 1-4, leaving them a mountain to climb in Q2. Maybe Glentoran don't see Europa Cup as important?
  11. Let's get back on topic. This challenge facing ICT should not be underestimated, as Astra are clearly one of the very best teams in the Romanian SPFL.

Some well taken goals but it has to be said that the standard of defending at that level looked very poor and he would need to sharpen up for the Scottish Premiership. A contract until January initially ? As mentioned before, make a show reel of a player banging in goals and he'll look great. But if you consistently see goals being scored then you'll see a fair bit of bad defending. Conference football. Probably on a par with the Scottish Championship? Talk about talking the game in this country down. To suggest that our Premiership on a par with the conference is just about as ludicrous as your previously expressed view that the Highland League was and is amateurish pub football.... I think 'iamthecaptain' was surmising that Conference level teams might be on a par with Scottish Championship sides, not Scottish Premiership. He could have a point in my opinion. Certainly I think top conference sides would give lower Scottish Championship sides a run for their money.
