Good run out for the boys tonight. People on this are probably wondering about players they haven't seen much of or any of, I'll sum up what I thought: First Half I thought McNaughton looked very tidy, just what I expected, an experienced defender, comfortable on the ball and certainly would be an asset to the club, started left back but is right sided so would be good cover for Raven or tremarco. Mulraney looked okay, definitely more to see from him, very direct and always looking to get on to his favoured left foot and get a cross in. Alex fisher was the least impressive out of the players in the first half, seemed like he was way of match practise, his touch just wasn't there but I think he will come. as for the youngsters, was impressed by them especially Maclennan and Sutherland, Second Half Looked a lot sharper team in the second half, Polworth and Vigurs looked very impressive along with the boy Robertson on the right. the new striker Boden is someone everyone can look forward to. Looks a cracking find, very clever striker and always sits on the last man. Was very unlucky not to get on the score sheet. overall I am quite content with the team we have. Still holding on hope that we may bring back Billy McKay. So if we could take in McNaughton, McKay, another winger and another centre back I'll be more than happy

The objective in these matches is not winning or to be entertaining....it's about getting a run out, shaking off the cobwebs and the manager trying to get a gauge on where players are at with fitness/sharpness. The only people who can judge how successful the match was are the Manager and Coaches. I've seen pre-seasons where we've gone out and won every friendly, bagging goals by the fistful and had terrible starts to the season....and vice-versa. We saw one trialist and Richie has said he'll be running the rule over another 2 or 3 before the start of the league season...and also that he won't rush any decision as he wants the right players and not just any players. Maybe I'm just getting more chilled about these things in my old age, but I don't get worked up over pre-season matches anymore. I think I might have just had a "turning into my Dad" moment!!!

Given Kevin's experience and ability is it all likely that this could also be a signing of a future coach?

The reason we have 'one of the longest club names' in British football is that it reflects a history that goes back a hundred and thirty years. That may not be important to you but it is to many of us.

Indeed I fully expect your general desire to become offended on other people's behalf to spread rapidly throughout the separatist community with respect to this "democratic outrage of the people of Scotland being dragged by England from the secure bosom of the EU" (or other equivalent grievance-mongering terminology).

Excellent post CH. Because it suits the SNP grievance machine, they are trying to portray the majority of Scots who voted Remain as rabid Europhiles who are utterly indignant at the democratic betrayal which has been perpetrated upon them. I believe the reality is that a lot of people weren't too fussed either way in the best Scottish tradition of "mibbiz aye, mibbiz naw" and the fact that separation preferences shift very little when the European dimension is brought in tends to confirm that. That is also one reason why the "thinking Nats" will be bricking tartan jobbies at the commitment to another Neverendum which, if they lose, will kill them stone dead for decades. There is further evidence that Scotland is not as Europhilic as the SNP, for political expediency, would want to suggest in the very low turnouts in the Peoples' Caledonian Republics of Dundee and Glasgow. A large slice of SNP supporters, the Brexonats led by Jum Sullurs, who are conveniently swept under the carpet by SNP Central, are Leavers who I suspect may well have solved their dilemma by abstention (aka "dinnae vote Jimmy"). Abstaining absolves them from having to contemplate voting against their anti EU instincts to boost the nationalist grievance factor. Abstention is, in effect, half a Leave and half a Remain vote. If they had not voted tactically to boost the separation case and expressed their true opinions, then it may well have been much closer in Scotland and these low turnouts in the two most pro-separatist areas tend to support that viewpoint. Interesting too that the German stock market has today plunged three times deeper than ours, which recovered two thirds of its early losses by the end of the day's trading. Maybe the Germans are more concerned than we are about the future of the EU - and with it their ability to dominate the continent economically. I don't know whether the French market - the CAC!! - has lived up to its name and also fallen very heavily but to do so would be just that bit hypocritical given that they are the only EU member the majority of whose voters poll in favour of us leaving. Remember also 1963 when de Gaulle - despite what we and the Americans, at great financial and human cost, had done for his country - said "non" when we first asked about joining the group of six Common Market countries, four of which we had liberated from the other two.
