Standing has rarely been unsafe, the benefits I believe are larger crowds, better atmosphere, lower price, good camaraderie/banter, better blood flow to joints, no bouncing up and down when a chance is created, no sun in your eyes in the winter (I used to take sunglasses to the main stand). I remember there used to be a big farmer laddie who regularly stood at the front of the west terracing and would give dogs abuse to the linesman, full backs and wingers. On the night ICT defeated Martin ONeal's Celtic in the SC, Jim White and Charlie Nick were crossing the pitch to the commentary box. The big lad shouts Charlie, Charlie what's the score gonna be? to which Charlie responds 5-0 Aye but who to Charlie says he.Nicholas just laughed. That's the kind of banter that seems to be lost these days. Bring back standing.
  2. I like Polworth but playing him at RM is not the best use of him. He constantly comes into the centre of the pitch and doesn't often come back to help out his full back. Look at how Horner was destroyed in that game v United last season. He had Polworth playing in front of him and received little support when United attacked down their left as Polworth had been dragged into the middle. I feel we often lose our shape a wee bit when we employ this set up. Regardless of that, there is no way we should be conceding a goal when it's simply a humped ball from one side of the pitch to the other. It was shocking defending but credit to Boyce for that superb touch he took to get back inside Raven.
  3. Are we looking for new players ? if we were able to sign the completed player we would need to blow apart our much heralded budget limitations. However consider Mulrahney probably quickest player in Spfl albeit we need to give him the right delivery to allow him make use of his pace. Macnaughton one of the best readers of a game we have seen at Inverness ( regretfully now by all accounts injured) Billy King has ability to skin players ,cross a ball and also score goals you obviously have only judged him on this game jury out with Boden but at least he is streaks ahead of Hughes offerings newly formed teams generally take a little while to blend so happy to give "potential"a chance

  6. Overseas, but still thinking: Price?..at the rate of exchange for Canadian Dollars of about $1.7 per pound , 25 pounds would mean I could only go occasionally since a pensioner's income must be doled out carefully in dollops. With a bad back to boot that probably means that I would have to go for the 30 quid ($51) which means maybe every 6 months for a special game. My wife came home a few weeks ago with a $150 grocery bill for that week and I nearly fainted. The $50 is about half a modest grocery bill for two people and our lovely black feline whose sense of smell is acute, so, if she doesn't like the smell of the tinned meat then it all has to go south. Fattish and fussy, like. Richie - stoic on the sidelines? So what? If that's his style, and he is respectable , who is to say that there is anything wrong with it? Maybe he is fuming inside but wishes to show composure and control on the outside. At the Vancouver Whitecaps games the Manager always has worn a spiffing suit but it has been so hot recently that he has changed into a tieless shirt and looks cool with a nice pair of slacks to match. He doesn't engage in histrionics but always still seems to be in control. Prior to the season opening I had an uneasy feeling that inexperience and youth might affect outcomes. So we surely had better be patient and continue to show support to the Manager who is bound to need time to make desirable changes and achieve better outcomes without unnecessarily antagonising and demoralising the team. I note Dougal has re-appeared from some kind of darkness and is bent on making unnecessarily negative remarks. His references to Caley D are completely unacceptable since the latter is just as entitled as any other poster to say what he thinks about the crowd and the match, etc, without someone sneering at him. If this poster had done only a fraction of the work Caley D has put in, and still does in spades, for this club for donkey's years then he might be in a position to criticise Even then there is such a thing as diplomacy. It's called "you'll get more with honey than with vinegar." At least so people tell me.
  7. Dani Sanchez got another goal today (14 Aug), for his club, FC Jazz, in a 3-3 draw in Finland
  8. Ah well! If only i spent longer than 5 minutes on it... Talking of too many pricks....
  9. As per usual, some nonsensical comments on here after this defeat. Let's be honest, most of the fans wanted Foran as the manager so some of the comments made about his management style/tactics etc are the pot calling the kettle black. Of course Foran will make mistakes but he has to be given time to learn his trade and someone has alrteady pointed out, that is why he has been given a 4 year contract. Some of the comments about Foran being too calm on the touchline are just nonsense, you don't have to be shouting at the players all the time to be a good manager, in fact I would say it should be the opposite as the players should be given the responsibility to do their job. Would you want your boss standing over you all the time?. As for yesterday, poor defending cost us the game, end of story. What football was played was only played by ICT as County were content to sit in after scoring their goals and even attempt to time waste during the first half. We were outmuscled by County as well which is a first for me but they are a big physical team this season while we appear to be more lightweight than in seasons gone by. Too many players lost the physical challenge yesterday, not helped by a referee who seemed incapable of recognising a foul. Don't get the criticism of McNaught from some as he was not culpable for the first goal, Warren and Raven saw to that and Raven very culpable for the second. Fon Williams and Warren culpable for the third. Obviously mistakes need to be cut out and getting Meekings back is a priority. To me, Raven has not played well this season and if this continues, needs to be dropped to give Horner a chance. I also don't think we can play Vigurs and Polworth together week in week out as they are too similar and provide little defensive cover in midfield. Therein lies part of the problem as we are playing a very attacking formation but lacking some defensive midfield cover. I genuinely think that with a few tweaks we will be okay this season but okay means staying up and avoiding the play offs. No doubt some will say we are regressing as a club but, let's be honest, we have been punching above our weight and it is going to take a couple of seasons to start to get back perhaps, to where we were. As for the referee yesterday, to be blunt, he was totally out of his depth and lost control of the game. The situation around our first goal was farcial as was his failure to sent Boyce off the field after he had received treatment. It took Draper to point this out to him. Raven got a booking for nothing while Davies fouled Boden and others all afternoon with the referee totally oblivious. One foul he gave against Draper was truly astonishing as the County player was climbing all over him. Keep the faith and support the team. As for Dougal, your posts are truly astonishing in their quality. Please post elsewhere
  10. Just watched the (awful) highlights of the game, First goal as i said yesterday to Tm4tj, was Warren being dragged way out of position as Raven was out of sight, simple cross in - easy header. 2nd was well taken but Raven could and should have done better. 3rd What the feck was Williams positioning like? jeez talk about making it easy. Bare squad, not much cover for defence, going to need huge effort from the players to get us out of this situation. And last but not least Dallas, what a feckin clown of a ref, inept and scary with his viewing of the game, ignored a huge push in Tansey's back.

back of envelope maths: looking at the avg attendance being about 3k, i would assume ST holders to number about 1500...? Just a stab in the dark. Assuming that every other person at the game yesterday was a paying adult sitting in either the North or South Stands... 4200 - 1500 = 2700 x £25ea = £67,500 in ticket sales If the ticket prices were reduced, there is very little increase in attendance, but we'll say the prices were cut to what, £20... 2700 x £20 = £54,000 the difference being £13,500 To make up this difference, the attendance would need to increase by £13,500 / £20 = 675 people, just to return the same through-the-gates income as the club would have received yesterday. That's an additional 25% of those that turned up, making a total attendance of 4875. Obviously, the more you cut the prices, the more people need to turn up... if the prices were cut to £18 for example, you would need 1050 additional people attending to make the difference. These aren't massive numbers but as a %age of our normal attendance, it's a lot of people. And i really don't think a fiver is making that much of a difference to a thousand people...
  12. The Kessock Bridge repalced the ferry that connected North and South Kessock, hence the name. The dolphins swim underneath the bridge that stands over our stadium This is true, however there is only one Inverness Castle (and if i would of thought my design was actually going to be taken seriously i would of bothered to change the colour of the castle to pinky red and put a G4S van in front of it as well!)
  13. Noticed a few comments on the poor crowd. Simply put, it's down to pricing. £25-£30 depending on where you sit is an absolute disgrace for any match. I completely understand why this would put people off. This is not a strategy to grow our fan Base.

Many people seem to get awfully worked up by not knowing how many season ticket holders there are. I ask this. What would a figure actually tell you? Any club can put out a figure but its actually meaningless. Are they all full paying tickets? Are they concession or frees? Its the same with crowd numbers at game. How many are little kids? How many are actually watching and understanding the game?

It's all down to what economists call "elasticity of demand" which is how extremely or otherwise purchase levels respond to change in price. With some products, demand will increase rapidly as you reduce the price (elastic) and with others the change will be much less (inelastic). One of the factors influencing this will be how the quality of the product is perceived. Income = number of units sold x unit price and in order to maximise income you need to adopt the price on the elasticity of demand curve which produces most from that number x price product. It would be interesting to get detailed figure on the elasticity of demand for SPFL Premiership football, but clubs have no option but to maximise income. This is especially the case when operating costs are artificially high - such as when a player market that doesn't reflect economic reality.
  16. One thing is for certain an ICT team under Yogi wouldn't have laid down the way they did to County yesterday I stand by my six pointer claim I watched two teams that are destined for the bottom six yesterday, whether that equates to relegation battles time will tell Dougal
