  2. I class myself as normal although some may argue with that .Thats OK we are all entitled to an opinion. I do not scoff Wurthers Originals. I do not go on cruise ship holidays . I certainly do not vote Tory. I do sit in Main Stand and can recommend it for a perfect view of game . Choose a seat higher up and you won't be disappointed . Renegade is however going to be disappointed when Xmas comes and he finds himself stroked off my Xmas card list .

  3. I am attending my first Caley Thistle home game in a few weeks v Celtic (been a fan for a number of years now but I live in Manchester). Can the forum give any advice about the best place to sit in the ground? Would love to sit somewhere with a bit of atmosphere & not sure which stand to pick. Thanks!

  4. During a match most Invernessians sit on their suites in their lounge watching the Old Firm.

  5. As someone very new to the site I think that it is helpful to show if you like or dislike a post that someone has made but if anyone dislikes a post then it would be helpful if they made a post on the site giving their counter opinion. Giving a red dot and not giving an explanation is like being hit from behind by a bully who then runs away. The majority of people that post on the site are adults and we should behave in a dignified and polite manner. That's not saying we all have to agree with one another on every subject but there should never be green dotting of people we like and red dotting of people that we don't like. As someone that doesn't know anyone else on the site I consider everyone as a friend as we all have the interests of the club at heart. Life would be boring if we all agreed on every subject. By the way I go for option 2.

  6. The subject of mental health in association football has been described as a "stigma" in the sport, although other professional sports are also affected. Professional footballers suffer more from symptoms of depression and anxiety than the general public. Of the 826 who completed players' union Fifpro's questionnaire, 38% of current players and 35% of ex-professionals said they suffered with problems. Half of those questioned played or play at the highest level in their country. The data shows that the rates of depression and/or anxiety in both current and former professional footballers appear to be much higher than those of groups controlled to represent the general populous, and even other elite athletes Ex-professional players Robert Enke and Gary Speed have committed suicide; both suffered from depression. Enke threw himself in front of a train. Speed hanged himself. Clarke Carlisle stated that he contemplated suicide after becoming injured early in his career, and in December 2014 attempted suicide due to the severe depression he was suffering from. Sebastian Deisler was hospitalized after being unable to cope with the pressures of professional football, eventually retiring from the sport at the age of 27. Ex-player Mickey Bennett set up an organization called Unique Sports Counselling to help footballers deal with mental health issues. In February 2016 Steve Harper spoke out about his mental health problems while in between clubs. By some estimates as many as three in five former players will be declared bankrupt, often blighted by bad financial advice. At least 150 ex-professionals are currently in prison. More than 700 a year end up being pitched out of the sport in their 20s after failing to win a new contract.

  7. I have a rule mate, it's stop digging when you are in a hole. I can tell you (with some authority) that 1 in 10 people will develope a mental health problem at some point in their life. This is regardless of socioeconomic status or education. There should be services in place for all of these people but there are specialised areas that require a distinct focus such as age related mental health, addiction issues and gender specific issues to name a few. Addressing one does not mean that you ignore everything else (which is what you are coming across as saying) you simply do what you can. That is laudable.

  9. The 'singing' section seem to be much livlier at away matches. I don't get to many home matches but I did sit in the North stand for the St Johnstone game and there was hardly a peep out of them the whole game, except for a bit of a conga when we got the injury time winner. At away matches, however, they seem to chant and sing the whole game, which must be a great boost to the players.

  10. I do get what you are saying. It was especially bad in the past with gaming communities as the majority of the users were teenagers fighting over Call of Duty clans and who was the best at ''quick scoping'' so understandably not the case here, however I do see some the similarities appearing on these forums. The above opinion is just how I would deal with it. In the end we opted for abolishing voting altogether and we found more communication between users was developing. Sadly, as is the case with the niche I was working with the quality of content dropped, but I don't believe that would be the case here with a more mature audience. An alternative that I know exists for the Invision Power Suite (this forum software, at least it was available in older versions with a mod from the marketplace) is where if a reply gains too many downvotes, it is hidden until a staff member can review it. I am referring to the forum community. It could be harmful as I am sure supporters of rival clubs will check this site out. I often check out other forums to see what rumors are going around and to see opinions on previous matches between the clubs, especially around transfer windows. It's just a bit of fun, especially when we destroy County. It's not a major cause for concern but I do believe this situation could have been handled differently.

  11. It's not a huge stadium and sitting higher up will give a degree of protection from rain and will be a bit more cosy, Celtic will also have section G in the main stand. If your in your teens right behind our goals should be fun. If not Renegade sounds like a fun guy. You can't miss him. He's got a big banner that reads. Say no to the Tories, cruise ships and boiled sweets.

  13. Honestly, in my opinion, if you want voting, leave it as it is. I've had many years of experience (admittedly fewer years than the admins here) running forums and other communities for various video games with moderate success and I can't help but feel if we at the time were to open up the voting and allow users to see who is upvoting or downvoting, it would lead to more friction. There are realistically only two suitable options: Keep voting, but hide user information as to allow someone to disagree with a comment without having to create a reply to explain why. Abolish voting, forcing those who disagree to come forth and write a reply as to why they disagree with a comment thus creating more discussion, but also opening up your forum to low quality posts. Trolls will be trolls. Cyberbullies (in the case of downvoting a username regardless of the content or quality of their contribution) will be cyberbullies and groups will always form. Don't let things get more personal as this will just cause more upset. EDIT: I would also like to add that in my opinion, it's rather embarrassing that it's come this far, for both the community and the club that we all support.

  16. I thought JH was pretty honest in his assessment and what he achieved albeit with someone else's players was remarkable. Re his buying policy I think most were panick buys, we were so short of first team players after the Astra games that he just started signing those that were available.Re his passing style it worked a treat when we were ahead but he couldn't change things when we went behind, players must be able to mix it up but to be fair to JH he picked up points with a team often without recognised first team players due to injuries. Re his comment about RF being a rookie manager is again correct RF has never managed at any level and I worried when RF in his pre season interview with the Chairman said we would keep passing forward which is as sensible as saying we will keep passing sideways, there is a time to go forward and back, we saw the effect of the Hughes dogma I hope the forward pass and loss of possession is not the RF dogma. After many calamities with the JH passing style the players took to it and it was noticeable that the opposition were generally more tired than ICT in the last 15 mins because of it. I would hope RF would build on that style with a little more variation rather than abandon it. There is nothing worse for players than have to do a 180 about turn under a new untried boss. I wish RF and the club the best of luck with what is by any stretch a gamble, doing your badges is no different to training for your chosen profession, we all know that theory and the real world are very different.

  17. RIG I didn't know we had an unofficial signing section in the north stand does the board know about this?
    1 point
  18. There is an unofficial signing section in the North Stand, Section E. A bunch of young kids do their best to get the crowd going and usually sit down the front of that section. Normally games v Celtic are a bit busier due to the larger crowd so they might not be there but that could be a good shout. Another good thing about that area of the ground is that the stewards tend to be a wee bit more tolerant of fans standing (not always however!) If you want a good view of the pitch and aren't too fussed about atmosphere then the Main Stand gives a cracking view of the game. But as you seem to be looking for a bit more noise I think heading for the North Stand is a better option.

  19. The first part of that sentence sums up what I said about him when he was here and I formed that opinion after meeting him and listening to his interviews .... the second part, mirrors what I have thought since he left and his comments in the press immediately preceding that. There is no doubting that John Hughes was a successful manager for ICT the stats do back that up totally. The debate over best or not can be argued either way and I am not interested in having that debate as all managers brought something to the table .... but there is no argument that he will forever be in our history as the manager who won the cup and who took us into Europe in much the same way as Robbo took us to the SPL or as Pele took us from D3 to D1 and masterminded our cup heroics over the likes of Celtic and Hearts when we truly were still a wee team from the highlands. I am not going to get all bitter that he left although I am disappointed in the manner of his departure and talking with fans of other teams where he has been manager there does seem to be a pattern of being successful for a short while then conflict with the respective club then a departure. Is it that he is just TOO ambitious for the 'smaller clubs' where he has been manager and has come up against their constraints, or is it something else? I don't know, I am not a psychologist, therapist or any other kind of -ist but I do know that our chairman is a reasonable man and the club in general are not afraid to back the manager outside of our financial comfort zone when they are able - just look at the cash they threw at TB to get us back to the SPL after relegation. What I do find utterly classless are his comments about Richie Foran and I hope that the reporting and quotes are out of context to what he actually meant or the entirety of his statements. Regardless of what he thinks of Foran as a person, or his ability as a manager, you dont throw them under the bus like that in public. Richie has completed his badges - he must have otherwise he could not be our manager in the top division as per UEFA rules - and despite the poor start to the season with a 'rookie' manager, he WILL come good. To go along with the coaching badges and everything he has learned as a player, he also has passion, commitment and a love for the area and ICT, so its just a case of it all falling into place (i hope). It'll be a rocky ride this year I think, but perseverance will be worth it.

  21. Agree to a large extent with almost every post above ... which seems paradoxical maybe. However, Yogi's reign at Inverness was paradoxical ... on the one hand unprecedented cup/league/Europe milestones/achievements etc probably never to be repeated, often attractive passing football ... on the other hand petty fall-outs/benching fans' favourites, stubborn refusal to change approach, sideways tippy/tappy when having off-days, dodgy/unbalanced player recruitment. The interview was strangely much the same ... plenty has been said of the negative above (which I agree is disappointing) ... but there was also positive ... he said he loved his time up here, "great bunch of lads" (should be his epitaph lol), acknowledged budget restraints were real, the Scottish Cup winning day was his happiest (or joint) in football and, notably post-departure, he jumped off his sofa in celebration hearing Meekings' winner go in on Saturday. Over the piece, the positive times shared with Yogi far outweighed the negative times and that is good to hold onto.

  22. The fact is that JH is now part of our past and, due to his own actions, a somewhat tarnished part of our past at that. We now have a new manager who is admittedly inexperienced but is learning all the time, who is happy to listen to and respect the views of senior players. I suspect that Yogi would have regarded the recent players meeting as dissent rather than as a positive thing as Richie clearly does. A manager who is happy to be here, who has a good relationship with the board and chairman, who does not leave out key players out of petty revenge and who is content with his budget which is the maximum we can afford and is not to stubborn to change things when they are clearly not working. ICT and Richie Foran have a bright future in the game. I doubt that the same can be said for John Hughes.

  24. Fraser 54 I can assure you that I am educated and I did not say that mental health issues only affect poor people, but the poor people with no resources are cast aside while footballers are lauded by society and blessed with wealth, good nutrition , support systems, medical care, first class travel, accommodation etc etc.they live in a gilded cage. I have nothing against our manager supporting player's mental health but bear in mind they are a tiny minority compared to the thousands struggling daily with life itself, unheralded, ignored, even despised. If you have any humanity, can you not understand the point I am making or do you only care about those who live a life of privilege and wealth? I have picked on football players because they have shown themselves to be narcissists, self centred, greedy (anyone remember the van hooidonk quote after being offered £7,000 a week in 1996?) let me remind you, "It may be good enough for the homeless, but not for an international striker" there's the arrogance of someone who has lost all touch with reality and as I've pointed out on this blog these heroes were unwilling even to help their fellow pro who gained them the riches they enjoy today, so go ahead and weep for the pro footballers and I will do the same for the vast army of ordinary Joes.

Administration pending, unless... How can we go from SupercaleygoballisticCelticareatrocious in the year 2000, to Scottish Cup Winners in 2015, playing in Europe and just 9 years after lifting the Cup; Administration. Mismanagement and our demise was hastened by the appointment of Scot Gardiner. Ever since then, ludicrous decision making has seen our stock plummet whilst 'shady' dealings were investigated. The failed Concert Company, the Battery Storage, the Statkraft contract have all ended badly leaving the club facing insolvency.

That's another fine mess you've got us into.

      Chairman Ross Morrison resigns

Nothing official from the club as we speak, but the Inverness Courier are running with a story that Ross Morrison has resigned at 18:00 tonight 3rd June.  More to come as this story develops, but most fans are looking for more heads to roll.

Speaking exclusively to The Inverness Courier, Mr Morrison said he is leaving now because of the aftermath of the Fife move. “I believe it [the move to Fife] is the best way forward and I have to stick with my beliefs,” Mr Morrison said. “This is the reason I'm stepping down now.”

Reflecting on his time with the Caley Thistle, Mr Morrison said: “My six-year tenure with the club has had some great and some not so great times but through everything I was immensely proud to be the chairman of the club and clubs I’ve supported for 50 years - I was a Jaggie by the way.

“I would ask the fans to rally round the club at this time and show their support by not only purchasing their season tickets but also getting involved directly with the club to see how they can help.

“Hearing fans saying they would prefer administration to training the first team in Kelty sent a shiver down my spine. Administration is a desperate thing to happen to a club and must, at all cost, not happen to ICTFC.”
