    the Open

My warning was of course light-hearted but when you mention these athletes of very high body mass index, I wonder if these heavyweights doing the rounds of Highland Games at this time of year fit into this category - after all some of them are pretty heavy for their relative height, and isn't muscle heavier than fat? Shot-putters too, as an example.

Careful Mr. B. - bit of a 'fattist' remark there. You could be crucified for that slightly anti fat-b*****d comment!
  3. Aye well - I suppose if the OP had been anyone else we might have! :)
  4. Each player runs onto the pitch holding a child by the hand - what's that all about? Is it a way of mass-producing match mascots or is it supposed to signify something? Any ideas?
  5. This is the sort of thing I like to see the club doing and shows we're looking to the future. Let's hope we see some of these lads playing for the first team in the SPL in the not-too-distant future!
  6. Perhaps they'll name the North Stand after him - the "Richie Hart stand" - got a nice ring to it! (In honour of the number of times he's blootered the ball into the upper rows of it)
  7. Wouldn't have a problem with Hastings coming back - he was one of our most consistent and under-rated players.
  8. Much as I hate the thought of Ross County achieving something that we haven't yet, I have to admit that it would be nice if a Highland team won the cup despite the fact we would never hear the last of it. However, if England won the World Cup we'd never hear the last of it cubed. Therefore, for me, England winning the World Cup is the worser of the two.
  9. I remember seeing someone being interviewed on TV after doing one of these charity things from Lands End to John o' Groats involving tractors - he said a lot of drivers had shown their support by blowing their horns as they passed! I rather think he misinterpreted the message. :(
  10. He'll be here next season - don't worry about that!
  11. Of course they will draw attention from bigger clubs, and the more success they have with us, the more likely they are to be offered a contract by a bigger team. I'm afraid that's the way it is - we're just a wee team and can't compete financially with certain others. It is inevitable that we will only keep a successful manager for a limited time - remember Pele, Robertson, even Brewster - all poached by bigger teams. Of course they may decide they like life in Inverness so much that they won't want to leave, but I'm afraid that's unlikely.
  12. Our "unofficial" nickname in the media is "The Highlanders" - that's what they call us and that's what we are and I quite like that. I'm for the Hairy Highlander. (Dolphins suggest a bit of tree-hugging anyway, and real Highlanders don't do that!)
  13. Two mascots this time - a bridge and a castle.
  14. Good evening Scarlet! Never mind broadcasts - get yerself across here for it!! :)
  15. 4852 - you heard it here first! :P
  16. Totally agree on the disabled parking thing, even although I'm not disabled. The pig-ignorance of some people really is quite astounding!
  17. Looks like the invasion's already begun - saw this worrying sight in Greenock this morning!
  18. Hmmm - I would beg to differ on that one!

    I am confused

There was certainly talk of Butcher being sacked - look no further than just about every post on this forum around 4 or 5 months ago if memory serves me correctly! There'll be some words being eaten now though, no doubt.
  20. Some gooduns yesterday but the one that had me in stitches was directed at the lineswoman after another dodgy decision - something about "putting on the dinner" - but I canna remember how it went. Pure gold anyway!
  21. Not the best Highland derby I've seen but entertaining nevertheless. As previously said, County dominated the 1st half, we looked much better after the break, and could have nicked it, but County finished strongly, so it could have gone either way. Can't help feeling that County raise their game a fair bit against us, perhaps to a level they can't sustain against other teams. And we seem to play sh!te against them, this season anyway. I can see Dunfermline joining the fray as the season nears a climax, with Dundee dropping out. Can County keep up with the big boys - who knows? Finally, a big "Thank you" to the old guard (with the exception of Tokely who worried the hell out of me whenever he got the ball) - Duncan especially, who kept us in the game and also Munro and Golly. Esson was mostly superb. Bully was mince - far too lightweight and unimaginative. Rooney tried hard but was marked out of the game. Hayes kept our hopes up, as did Eagle. And there were a few others playing for us, but I didn't really notice them.
  22. Derek Adams would be the perfect replacement, from our point of view!
  23. If County get to the cup final we could very well end up with another diddy team taking one of the Euro slots and ultimately embarrassing the nation even more than usual. Interesting to note a degree of support for County in their replay against Hibs - perhaps a mark of the maturity of the supporters of the Senior Highland team. Can't see that being reciprocated if the roles were reversed though - they've always hated us, despite our generally tolerant attitude to them!
