  1. Wouldn't have a problem with that - in fact I think the word "Inverness" in the name alienates us from a lot of folk in the Highland region. A name like Highland F.C. would I think extend the appeal of the club to a much larger area and would surely benefit our attendances.
  2. Gosh I'd forgotten about the Football Times - I used to walk down to the paper shop with my Dad after tea on Saturday to buy it, then eagerly wait until he'd finished reading it. I remember it was reborn at one stage and printed on pink paper, and marketed briefly as "The Pink", but I can't recall anyone ever calling it that. It even had "The Pink" printed on the front of it beside its proper name - all rather contrived if you ask me - a bit like Meadowbank Thistle being reborn as Livingston and coming out of the box complete with 'team nickname' of "Livi Lions" or whatever. Which makes me wonder if there are any equally bitter Meadowbank Thistle supporters seething away every Saturday in their Meadowbank slums, miles away from the action in Almondvale.

    1 From 4

We always beat Killie, so no worries there. Falkirk always beat us at home, so we need to work on that one. Dunno about St. Mirren though. I just hope we don't end up back in the situation where we do well against the better teams and struggle against those around us. Early indications suggest this might be the case, in which case we're in for a torrid time in the last 5 games.
  4. As I recall, the interviewer suggested that prior to the penalty, ICT were slightly the better team and Yogi disagreed with that, saying that he thouight Falkirk had the edge up until that point. I agree with him there - Falkirk did edge it up until the goal. After that we dominated.
  5. Very entertaining game today - real edge-of-the-seat stuff. Lionel's sending off was a bit harsh though, although the penalty was fair. Disapproved of Russell Duncan's efforts to get a fellow professional sent off. I think we can do without this sort of blatant cheating, although some might say it's all part of the game. Hell, if we can have entertainment like that at TCS every other week the punters should come swarming back! I've witnessed a few home defeats this season, but if they'd all been as entertaining as today's, I wouldn't have minded. I'd have put Foran ahead of Black for MoM though. In fact Lionel was looking good for it until he walked.
  6. I noticed Russel Duncan going down like a ton of bricks this afternoon and clutching his face to imply he'd been head-butted in an attempt to get a player sent off. Didn't look right to me, and Sportscene has just confirmed my suspicions. It's not so easy to support players who blatantly cheat like that, and I have to say I'm very disappointed. Let's not have any more of this sort of behaviour from our team!
  7. It was well documented that Dubya was indeed an idiot - he had a certificate to prove it, whereas Gordon Brown was quite an intelligent man - that was the difference. I do find this tendency for the masses to choose to be offended over trifling little things a bit tiresome nowadays. Clarkson has made a career out of this sort of thing and many people find him amusing and unafraid to say what he thinks - none of this hand-wringing tree-hugging PC nonsense from him, and I respect that. Unfortunately many of us Scots have a huge inferiority complex about our nation and heritage and a rather large chip on our shoulders, which is why this particular thread has come about. Rise above it, for goodness sake!
  8. It's only us Jocks that think of Wembley 1966 as 'bad'.
  9. While recognising that desperate measures are needed in these desperate times, I do hope that when the current crisis is over, ICT will continue to nurture, and offer opportunities to our own home-grown players. It has always given me great pride to see local lads making it into the first team and I would hate to see young aspiring trainees being forced to leave because all the first team berths are occupied by players whose true homes are very far away from Inverness, home being where the heart is. Does anyone else feel that a partly local squad better represents the area, or are we all quite happy so long as the team is winning, regardless of the origins or nationality of those wearing the ICT colours. (I emphasise that these are desperate times - currently I'd be quite happy to have the Brazil national team in ICT colours to get us a few places up the league table!)
  10. Gotta admit - I was fishing a bit with the comments. I actually quite liked JL. Can I take it you were a member of said band? Incidentally, I am told that a member of the aforementioned No Reaction has been known to post on this site from across the pond!
  11. Robbo could be the man to get us out of Division 1 if Butcher fails to keep us in the SPL. Reckon we're well covered for any eventuality now!
  12. Y'know, it's still mathematically possible for us to win the league. Unlikely though. . . . . . . .
  13. I'd be more worried if they had wildly different opinions.
  14. At the risk of doing this one to death - one piece of trivia I overlooked here was that Scoobies became Billy Urquhart's father-in-law.
  15. In an ideal world I think Brewster may have turned it around. But football fans are a fickle lot and once the angry mob was formed he had no chance. Having probably now lost the respect of the majority of the team's support, thanks mainly to the angry mob, he has to leave because, barring miracles, he can never regain that respect. If we lose our next 2 games - both games we should be expected to win - the board would be very foolish to let him continue.
  16. One or two spring to mind. There was Jed Ludd in the early 70's who were dire and thankfully didn't last. The Kicks, which became The Kut - they were going for years and as I recall played in the Marquee in London once or twice - wouldn't be surprised if they're still going. A Police soundalike, but with a lot of original material. NiteHox from the 80's - very accomplished cover band with one or 2 songs of their own. There were a few in the late 70's/early 80's generally stemming from the Punk thing - The Hormones, As The Crow Flies, No Reaction, Vizion, none of which came to much but I remember seeing As The Crow Flies and Vizion, both of which impressed me greatly. And I remember the Kettle Brothers too - a synth and drum machine duo as I recall, with an old kettle placed on a desk between them. Pretty pish, or maybe I shouild say, not really my scene! Axis was a brilliant Heavy Metal band from Inverness, featuring the excellent Andy Murray, who later joined Wolfstone. Would anyone on this forum admit to playing in any of these bands? Or maybe someone's got a grandad who played for one of them . . . . .
  17. Dalneigh University, eh? One can only imagine what sort of courses would be on offer!
  18. Bit of a non-story here, but hey, let's blame Brewster anyway! As far as the 'past tense' thing (in the initial post) goes, well anyone talking about their career to date would do so in the past tense because - um - it's in the past! But let's face it - rumours about Blackie's imminent departure have been doing the rounds for the last 3 years at least, so lets keep these pointless posts coming!
  19. These threads are getting awfully tedious now. Perhaps Tangoman's got a point!
  20. It would be very difficult to voluntarily give up your job, especially at this time of year.
  21. Where, a year ago I'd have made the effort to go through to Sneck for a home game, now I wouldn't. If I happened to be in the area and there was a game on, I'd probably go, as I have done twice this season (and witnessed a HOME WIN!!!). I even went to see them at Tynecastle because I happened to be in Edinburgh that weekend. Don't really have a firm opinion on who is chiefly responsible for our current poor form, but I'm beginning to come round to the mindset of the angry mob. It's just that I get so pssed off, so angry at seeing another toothless display, and it's not something I wish to see again for now. New manager or new players or more encouraging match reports may well draw me back. But there's no boycott or anything - just nothing to draw me to the game at the moment.

    4-4-2

I remember playing a very effective 1-1-8 formation at Fraser Park many years ago. Unfortunately we got humped 12-9! Plenty goals though.
  23. Miss McCuish, a teacher at Dalneigh lived with her sister Miss McCuish on Fairfield Road - near that fellow Wright. She then became Mrs Gillanders and moved out. Incidentally, does anyone remember hanging around outside a house (on Fairfield Road) owned by a missionary - can't remember her name - who had rescued a Chinese woman and took her back to live in Inverness. Don't know the full story, or what she'd been rescued from, but back then it was such a novelty to see Oriental people in Sneck that kids would hang around outside "the Chinese House" hoping to catch a glimpse of her. One time she came out and spoke to us, very pleasantly, in understandable but accented English - we were fair chuffed about that. The house had a Chinese name as I recall.
