Alternative Split
No a bad plan CaleyD but I can see it being unpopular with teams who may expect to be in the top 6, e.g. Hearts, Dundee United, O.F. for the loss in revenue playing against supposedly lesser teams post-split. And of course one less O.F. derby, which may appeal to the police but perhaps not to the clubs and TV companies. Theoretically we may only have 3 O.F. derbies in a season under your proposed system, whereas under the current system it is very unlikely there'll be less than 4. To prevent the scenario where a club in the bottom 6 may have more points than clubs in the top 6, why not just award all teams who make the top 6 an extra 15 points.

Neil Lennon and Bombs
It's bog-all to do with his nationality or his religion. I dislike him because he's a whingeing, cheating, ginger thug. If he wasn't a whingeing, cheating thug, I'd forgive him for being ginger!

It'll never happen (unfortunately)
Unfortunately we need the OF in Scottish football despite the baggage they bring - you're only as good as the teams you play. If the OF left the SPL, then the standard of Scottish football would plummet. The OF in England would go from strength to strength thanks to the better quality of opposition and the large 50,000+ support that each brings. Our loss would be their gain.

Butcher & Malpas
"Overexpectationitus" - I knew there had to be a scientific name for it! Aye - that just about sums it up.

Butcher & Malpas
Because the team made such a good start this season, expectations have become very high, with even talk of a European place not so long ago. Thinking back to our first ever season in the SPL, the emphasis then was on consolidating our place in the SPL, ensuring we didn't go straight back down, as we were favourites to do. Eleventh place would have been quite sufficient for most of us back then. I suppose we had hopes and expectations of better things in seasons to come and I think we did indeed achieve a higher position at the end of our second SPL season. So why don't we look at this as a season for consolidating our place in the SPL, accept our excellent start to the season as a bit of a bonus, and once we survive relegation and prove beyond doubt our right to remain in the SPL, look to the next season to build upon our achievements? A bit like the last time we were new to the SPL. What's good for Brewster is good for Terry and Mo!

what are your thoughts on referees of late
To add to the tongue-in-cheek nature of this thread, isn't it strange how it's always the stand-side linesman who's accused of incompetence?

Celtic vs Rangers
It is not peculiar to Glasgow, but uniquely, it is a serious problem in Glasgow. Celtic and Rangers are about a lot more than just football and it would be foolish to pretend otherwise.

Australian Open
Aye. Shame about Sergei's wee lass though. She's never quite made it.

ICT Away support more loyal than home
Quite the opposite. Supporters who attend home games are contributing financially to the club and are clearly much more loyal than those DISLOYAL supporters who attend away games and contribute financially to the opposition. Boycott away games - that's what I say! And ostracise any supporters seen attending away games.

Local hostility
The clue is in the name of the hotel!

Our last defeat away..........
Haha - good one!

Wayne Rooney
You mean, there's ANOTHER Rooney???

Does anyone remember Daisy Ross?
I last saw him playing for Clach in a pre-season friendly in Portree. I think Clach were HL Champions then, so it must have been the year we first won promotion to the SPL (but it's just too late at night to remember which year)

ICT or not ICT?
Perhaps if the club had a different name at the very beginning, e.g Highland, it may have attracted a wider support - who knows? Changing it now certainly would not improve the support - it may even be detrimental if the new name is silly enough. Having said that though, I'd be quite keen on changing the name to Inverness Caledonian!
- Thanks and apology

If ICT were an English club
We seem to have a lot in common with Newcastle United, but I vaguely remember talk a few years ago about some sort of arrangement between Newcastle and the hated Elgin City! This was based on the rather flimsy common ground that both teams wore vertical black and white stripes. Wonder what happened to that arrangement. Aye, Newcastle United - great club, great support, but for years they've suffered from brigands, charlatans and chancers at the highest level and never seem to get the leadership they deserve - I'm talking about the Board here, not the team management. Yes, we have got a lot in common!

BUTCHER MUST GO!
TB's riding on a wave of popularity at the moment after the success of the 1st Division campaign and I'd be really surprised if this is a genuine call for his resignation. More a heat of the moment thing. If we were well into the second half of the campaign and propping up the rest of the table, then maybe. But I believe, by the team choice, that he had perhaps written off this game as relatively unimportant and had decided to divert our limited resources to ensuring SPL survival. And although I don't like 6 goal drubbings, I'm inclined to agree. Don't judge him on diddy cup games - judge him on our league position at the end of the season.

Ian Black
Much better if he doesn't score!

A wind of change?
What about a 20 team top division like we used to have and lump the rest into a second division of 24. That would be 38 games a season for the top division and losses from less games against the Old Firm would be partially offset by the possibility of more derby games. In our case there would be a half-decent chance of Ross County being in the same division so we'd have a couple of derby games in a season. There would have to be an opportunity for ambitious non-league teams to enter as well, at the expense of waste-of-spaces like Elgin City so we'd need to have promotion to and relegation from the second division annually.

Goal Celebration
A bit over-elaborate and in my opinion not a patch on Brian Thompson's sheep-sha**ing celebration of the umpteenth goal in a cup-tie in response to cheeky taunts from Annan Athletic supporters. Not bad though. :_thumbup:

Confidence running high
Spot-on Scarlet, and I reckon the opening-day fixture is the best chance we'll have to beat Celtic - many of their players will have only just met and not fully gelled as a team. And although Lennon is indeed more intelligent than yer average footballer, and will i think become a very good manager, he's still a cheatin', diving, ginger wee nyaff!

Fleetwood Town v ICT matchday thread
Seem to remember Caley beating Hearts in a pre-season friendly in the 80's - although we enjoyed the result, I don't think we got too carried away with it. Don't think Hearts were too bothered either, being as it was just a friendly!

the Open
My warning was of course light-hearted but when you mention these athletes of very high body mass index, I wonder if these heavyweights doing the rounds of Highland Games at this time of year fit into this category - after all some of them are pretty heavy for their relative height, and isn't muscle heavier than fat? Shot-putters too, as an example.

the Open
Careful Mr. B. - bit of a 'fattist' remark there. You could be crucified for that slightly anti fat-b*****d comment!

Children
Each player runs onto the pitch holding a child by the hand - what's that all about? Is it a way of mass-producing match mascots or is it supposed to signify something? Any ideas?
