Why do a lot of people want us to sign this bloke? Everytime I've seen him against us he's been pish. Desperation buy if it happens.

The youngsters get plenty of encouragement.....Zander, Wood, Vigurs, Kerr all got high praise for good pre-seasons, and I certainly wouldn't have any objection to seeing any of them in the matchday squad. Rory has had enough chances in the first team, and all the encouragement in the world isn't going to improve him.

I'm not sure why everyone's slagging off Caff so much. Having just seen the goals from today, McBain failed to close down Ferguson for the first, Munro was completely out of position for the second.....in fact, he was going for a ball that Caff had covered. And Tokely may as well have passed it to Ferguson for their third. The main culprits in defence today were Tokely and Hastings. Both were terrible, and it was quite noticable how many times Caff was having to cover for Roscoe when Tokely had been skinned again, or caught out of position again. Much as I like Roscoe, he was given a right going over today.

1 header in 3 years isn't much to shout about(and if I remember rightly, I'd have probably scored that one too!)!! And how long should we wait to see 'that something' that I constantly keep hearing he's got? If he does come on here.....good. He might realise that the people who spend a lot of money watching his half arsed attempts every game aren't happy about it. I wouldn't mind if he at least put himself about a bit, he's not exactly small after all. He doesn't though. Of all those long balls today he must've won one or two at most in the air, the rest he got nowhere near. He just doesn't put the effort in, and constantly looks knackered. I've NEVER heard anyone say 'Great, Rory's starting today'......or even 'Get Rory on Charlie! If CC keeps persisting with him, then I really do worry about his managerial judgement.

Wyness was pish most of last season too. He's just too slow IMO. I suspect his 'legendary' status makes him immune to some fans criticising him though. In fairness to him, I thought he had some nice touches today.....just a shame about his partner up front.

He's not good enough, simple as that. People can keep saying 'he's young, he scores loads in the reserves' etc etc, but that's not enough. He's into his 3rd SPL season now, and other than one reasonable game against Celtic, he hasn't improved one bit. He has no strength, no control, no awareness, no heading ability, no pace, and watching him today...he's no idea how to judge a balls flight either. I wouldn't loan him out, I'd get rid of him to anyone that'll have him. We've just loaned out a very promising youngster(Wood), but sorry CC, you let the wrong one go. I knew we'd lose as soon as I heard Rory's name mentioned on RS on the pre-match report. I despair why he keeps getting chance after chance. Quite simple really, he's gash....let's admit it, and move on.

We were pish, and for all those that keep saying get off Rory's case......well, he was complete mince today(for a change!). We'd have been better off playing with 10 men, he was that bad. Forget about loaning him out, just get rid of him. Sorry, but the excuses for the guy have got to stop....he's not good enough. As for the game, we were second to evrything, we wanted an eternity on the ball, and when we did get it we just hoofed it. If it hadn't been for Fraser it could've been 4 or 5. I thought McBain did well, certainly the best of the rest for me. I'm not sure the centre of defence was the problem, Hastings and Rosscoe were both rubbish. Hastings got caught in possession far too often, and his passing was awful. Tokely got skinned too many times, and caught out of position too often. Dennis had some nice touches but was pretty much on his own up front for all the use McAllister is. Pass marks for.....Fraser, McBain, Black, Wyness, Hart(when he came on). The rest need to improve dramatically next week.

Agree. I'd love nothing more than for Rory to make me eat my words, but to be honest I can't see it happening. He's simply not good enough. And all this 'he's young, lots to learn' etc.....well, this'll be his 3rd season playing regularly at this level, and in my opinion he hasn't improved at all. Look back through the pre-season reports just now and see how many games Rory was involved in, and see how many 'we failed to convert the numerous chances we created' type comments there are. From what I've seen, the boy Wood looks like he has far more potential than Rory.

No 4 was the tall boy in central defence wasn't it? He was impressive. His passing out to the wingers was Mannesque! I thought Wood was the big striker who replaced Rory...and scored the penalty. He can't have been 4 as well can he? Who was the keeper? Even though he didn't have much to do, he was good when called on. Maybe a wee bit small though? He was good anyway.

I know it's pre-season and all that, but Rory looked completely fecked by half-time. Now our striker options have increased, surely a loan spell at a lower level will do him (and us) some good!

I remember now why I can't be arsed with friendlies.....that was grim stuff. The ones who impressed were the youngsters. Vigurs looked excellent when he came on. As was Zander. The boy up front (Wood?) was good, he's powerful and has pace. I also liked the look of Kerr at the back. Whoever the goalie was made some good saves too. Right, that's it 'til the 4th for me.

That's the point though surely. If he's using us as a stepping stone to boost his career, then it's in his obvious interest to perform to his highest level in order to attract the bigger clubs. Yes, there is the potential for unrest in the dressing room, but.....well, unless we want to remain at this level from here on in, then we've no option other than pushing on with the standard of players we bring in. We're on the verge of making our biggest signing ever, and now some of our fans are complaining about it!! Are these the same people who not so long back were complaining about lack of signings, lack of ambition, and the fact that all we ever get is players from over the bridge? Feck me, the board can't win. It'll be a fantastic signing if it's true. Only a couple of years back, we couldn't have even dreamt of seeing players of this calibre at TCS. Now that's a possibility, I for one can't wait. Aye, he might be *****, aye he might be using us as a stepping stone.....so what. I'm pretty sure the board are smart enough to realise all this, and if they see it as an acceptable risk, then that's fine with me. The very thing that often seems to get thrown at the club...'the small team mentality', seems to be more at home with some fans than the club itself. Big :022: to the club for showing ambition, and to me moves like this signal an intent that we're not simply content with survival every season, we're looking to push on and get in that top 6.

Hope ye'r right Scotty, but I can't help getting nervous that it'll all fall through!! If he does sign, CC and the board deserve a lot of credit. Looking at the Gillingham forums he McDonald seems highly rated by them, and the goal clips seem to suggest he'll be an excellent, much younger, replacement for Dargs. Fingers crossed :022:

My thoughts exactly. Could be another saga on the cards here.... I hope not though. He looks a decent player, and if it all comes off it'll be a good bit of business I reckon. Just some defensive cover needed now!

Come to think of it, let's hope the diving wee fanny doesn't get Caff sent off again!
