  1. Thurso huh. Lauraness? Then you may know Martin Rennie, the current Manager of the Vancouver Whitecaps, our Major League Soccer team, or his family who comes from that area, first Thurso. From what I have read his dad was a pastor up there. Not sure of his football background but he made a name for himself in the earlier, lower league teams in the U S , was spotted by someone and got the job here in Vancouver.
  2. Laura Here is a link to the Dragon Boat Festival held once per year in Vancouver, B.C. Canada : http://www.google.ca/search?q=Dragon+Boat+festival/Vancouver&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=cr&ei=TcAWUofeHISQiQL52oGIDw This is a boat race , held with heats, that pits 16 racing boats against each other and comprising 2,000 rowers. It' seems to be held over an approx. 400 meters course and is a big deal. Hope this link works. Cheers S.P.
  3. Draganict--good advice and you will be pleased to learn that I went to the Opthalmologist for my annual check up recently and got myself a pair of progressives to incorporate his suggested upgrades. "Now Scarlet is "modern" so I had to review my decision not to buy a Smart 'phone just to keep up with the Jones's. Too oold fer that now I am afraid. So its' progressives, 95 inch T.V., pipe and slippers. Eat yer hearts out you workers of the world
  4. Thank you gentlemen . I'm right on it. Heartfelts and all. Wow, that's fast service.
  5. As a very young man I was sent to Leven in Fife after I resumed my banking career. This was after I had met Bughtmaster in North Germany in the RAF and was demobbed after two years National Service. Every other Saturday I walked from Leven to Bayview Park , Methil, for at least a few years to watch a somewhat ordinary side named East Fife. Whether I enjoyed all the games immensely or not was always secondary to the fact that I had something to look forward to on a Saturday and occasionally you would see what you would imagine was the game of the century when both teams would go on fire and goals would flow one after the other. The pace and the striving would be thrilling and that is what football is all about. That's what is the drug--the uncertainty of what you are about to witness, IMHO. With ICT being at the pinnacle of their history now it is ridiculous to say that the park is too far away. That's just an excuse. Let's face it, once the football gets its claws into you then you just have to get up off your chair, put away the pipe and slippers and limp five miles to the park. Eh?
  6. As I look at the heading here of this posting box it has almost faded from sight. None of the headings work. e.g. I used to be able to activate an emoticom even if the header had faded but now there is no reaction when they are clicked upon. All are almost out of sight. How can I bring the header back to full function and correctly highlighted? Thanks S.P.
  7. Yes, Renegade ,I raised my eyebrow at Terr's remark too. Thought he might have added something like.."So I urged the team on to score another quick one to consolidate our position.."etc. Terry is rarely lost for a word though. I think, between one thing and another (e.g. having Malpas and the scouts we have on board), that we are also lucky to have Mr. Butcher at the helm at this stage of the development of the team.
  8. DraganICT--are you a season ticket holder by any chance?
  9. Alex--you continually stun me with your surprises. One of the original world travelers it appears! Smile. Ingvar Gunn. Welcome to this exotic forum of frantic football-mad fans. In Scotland the clan Gunn originated with the Vikings invading the Northern Isles and then settling in the north of Scotland. Their name was close to a similar Norse word, "GUNNI", meaning warlike or into and loving fighting. From what I have read the clan Gunn were not shy to get into a fight in Scotland and were often sought after to support other clans in their warlike endeavours.I think they finally settled in the North West probably because it was isolated and difficult to get to. You can read this very interesting and well-researched article from a Scotsman named Scottie who sends me stuff every so often. He is a clever man and does meticulous research so you can trust his comments!:- http://www.rampantscotland.com/clans/blclangunn.htm Kind regards Scarlet
  10. I am not sure whether Manfer , you wrote the report or was you, Scotty, but I enjoyed it immensely. And a big thanks for including the videos which , of course, make my day in the wilds of the Canadian wilderness. Without that presentation we would maybe be waiting a long time to see these videos or even not at all so , again, many thanks. Foran's goal was one of the most professionally-executed goals I have seen in a long time. Great timing and he appeared to know exactly what he was going to do to score. He really is an accomplished professional foiotballer and we are really lucky to have him. A think of beauty , so it was. Beware Partick Thistle this season--this is a well-supported team with passion, fitness, no end of desire and skill and seem to be as fit as a fiddle. One touch, pass, run and crack the thing and they could score a barrow-load once they get the first few. Very nice team-play to watch too....aggressive, sharp and fast. I see them as a little bit like the early Caley Team and, once they again establish their presence in the SPL, they could be a great addition to this League. So far so good for them. Hearts played plucky against them and the goal scored by Heart's Walker was also a thing of beauty ... consummate control, skill and dynamic finishing. This goal really turned my crank and IMHO it was an absolutely breathtaking bit of skilled football. Cheers S,P, Motherwell did not seem to be too concerned at stopping the Caley Thistle players. They seemed to stand off the advance-ing blues without even making an attempt to tackle and they got what they deserved. Mind you all I have to go on are
  11. Nah Just Stay in Edinburgh and dine at the sumptuous, newly refurbished, 24 million pounds face-lifted, Waldorf Astoria Caledonian hotel in West Princess Street.. Sean Connery tells me that it is the last word in luxury and Haute Cuisine. Just don't ask for the bill at the table. Oh!, and if you fancy a wee scenic trip through the Rockies in Canada when you are next over here, just call the Rocky Mountaineer Railway for a trip of a lifetime. Haute Cuisine again, but with a view. http://www.google.ca/search?q=Rocky+Mountaineer+Railway&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=cr&ei=yRsQUsP5D4m4yQGU2IH4Cw
  12. That figures Fraz, 'cos he is rather a Perfidious Fellow?
  13. Have you been to Scotland, then, Gavroche? Or did you learn your English at school? Looks like you learnt quickly since your vocabulary, grammar, etc., is very good. Welcome to our site -- which is colourful in more than one way.Smile.(Can't get the "Smilies" to come up; they are blanked out)
  14. Could be! I saw a video about the selection process by Celtic for bringing over young lads from Ireland and it was rigorous and challenging and there were a few tears when the final selections were announced. They had a fairly small group of, say, 6 or 7 young players and at least two, if not three, had to go back home after the testing and training had completed. Interesting though.
  15. Renegade So do you think that Greenhalgh is not as fit as the other first team players?
  16. It had to be a pigeon because the radio commentators said it was and it had toes that were turned in. Many North American Indians also have turned in toes...mostly because some of them only speak Pigeon English.
  17. Anyone who seeks to injure an inoffending animal deserves the bird from the crowd. What happened to the pigeon eventually?
  18. Laurence --I really did not anticipate such an ent-erprising post. Next time can we keep it in a football vein though and refer to Ernie ENTwhistle from Wigan?
  19. Really? What happened to their nice big sandstone house at the front of the yard facing onto Fairfield Road, Rytenuff? All the family will certainly have moved away years ago I suppose.
  20. http://www.google.ca/search?q=lake+monster+in+British+Columbia,+Canada.&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=cr&ei=xNkHUrLrAcTuyQH3qoHoDw Bughtmaster: there is a Lake Monster in one of the Northern Lakes in British Columbia, Canada, named OGOPOGO. Has very similar phuysival features to the Loch Ness Monster and appears to actually exist.. But the one in Canada that I like best is "The LAKE GUARD" illustration on the website of www.destiniesinmotion.com (see under the heading Illustrations). What a fearsome beastie he is...
  21. So, really, you are hinting at Inverness being a kind of backwater -- like Sleepy Hollow ? I think all the things mentioned are contributing factors and it's a nice place to live, albeit sometimes too cold for my liking, so maybe the inhabitants are just a bit too laid back and content with their lot or something.. Anyway, do the Dingwallian statistics include babies ("the population of Dingwall" ) by any chance? Whatever, they will always unavoidably remain Ding-A-Lings..
  22. Biggin the Beguine. Ha!
  23. Fraz....NOOO! You had me fooled for a moment.
  24. Terry sounded really animated in his interview. Says Richie's "bad" tackle was not deliberate. He also said his goal for the end of the season was to "still be here." Should we read anything into that other than a spur -of- the- moment response, I wonder? Certainly, if this form continues for any length of time, there will be a few clubs from down south which will again be eyeing him up with serious intent. This season has started very well and could become very interesting indeed. Fully vindicates his hard pre-season training sessions , it seems.
