  1. I am on record as having suggested to the Manager more than once that to get the best of Lionel's talents he nedds to be given a chance as a winger--as someone on here has just said. But no. The Pimple's advice was never taken. So I suggest that you avoid the danger of his defensive mistakes by suggesting to your Manager , strongly, that he put the raging bull on the wing and he will not only be effective but will decimate the defenses up agin him. And probably turn out to be a super confident, super controlled SENSATION. :) Good luck
  2. Rooney will also be a marked man and may find the going a lot tougher than in Division 1. :love06: Let's wait and see.
  3. What was wrong with the 2-1-2-5 formation that I grew up with? Produced more goals and more excitement. It's all about tactics and formations and numbers these days it seems. It's more often than not stalemated , cat and mouse, sterile , boring football nowadays. Whereas, in the old days it was a much more unpredictable and free flowing game ,IMO. Youngsters don't know what they're missing. And if the players are so much more skilled nowadays than they were in my youful past then why do we see do many balls blootered over the bar--not only just OVER the bar but 30 feet over the bar. Professional footballers should surely have learnt ball control, especially from free kicks, at soccer preschool.
  4. Alex MacLeod is dead on. The decibel count is well over 100. There will be no sweetie rustlers at Tulloch if one gets in the door. I use headphones wirelessly tuned to the volume control on the T.V. but to avoid permanent ear damage I have to turn down both the TV control plus that on the Earphones. And that spoils the whole enjoyment. Proper menace as the not-so-old CB says so emphatically.
  5. REputed to be a nice fella. and had some splendid moments on the park.
  6. That should be 1.7 billion dollars, not 17 billion. Even these ginks would never spend the latter figure. :love06:
  7. PITHY POINT, PULL MY FINGER!!! This debate reminds me of a certain Provincial Government in British Columbia, Canada, who has just spent 17 BILLION dollars on the recent Olympic Games. That, folks is such a large figure that I would not be sure how to type it!! Fantastic success and engendered a lot of spirit amongst the population of the country for at least 15 days but now the bill has to be paid. Since these twits spent the money that they did not have we now have a 7 % tax increase on virtually all spending, increases in carbon taxes on gasoline and on hydro bills, whatever, the cost of gasoline rocketing ever upwards and so on seemingly on everything you buy. You can't even cross the river going south on the lovely new bridge that cost another horrendous sum of money because the tolls that these guys slapped on every crossing are so high that far fewer than the number of people that they expected to use it have decided to cross regularly.Meaning a large decrease in the expected Governmetal revbenue that they need to service the deby payments.--Reason: Becuase they spent money they did not have . If ICT chooses to NOT spend money they do NOT have then I applaud them .Living in debt is mindless ., except, perhaps to pay a mortgage . Scotty, I watched your Colorado game today from BMO field. It occurs to me to ask ....are there stands in that park or is summer footy so nice that they figure that they don't need them.> Regardless, everybody was having a great time int he sunshine. Pretty hot here too--day before yesterday was 39 degrees --hottest ever temperature in B.C. Tell Johnboy for me, please, that Matilda has survived despite her fur coat probably making her as moribund as she looked . I know he cares. :023: :love06:
  8. All shopkeepers in the area will now have to dig a moat round their place ,then? MOAT--Me Out And Tricky.
  9. This young 'keeper looks cool, confident and competent. And he has courage and seems to be decisive. Hopefully this will be the start of something new and improved for both hiom and Caley Thistle. As for the Israeli, well, the only concern that I would have is "cruciate ligament". If he had proper reconstructive surgery and supervised recovery then, at his age , it should probably be little more than a very painful blip on the radar screen. But, 2hatever, he looks a bright prospect . I have a secret feeling yhat Terry is a bit of a secret weapon for Caley Thistle since there can be little doubt that ,for these kids, playing for an experienced former England captain must be a bit of dream come true. And that means that it is surely likely that they will ; 1. Pay attention ....and 2. Work their butt off to succeed. Looking forward this coming season now. :)
  10. I like that one Pull My Finger. Highly amusing to the hordes of bored Pimples around Canada. :024:
  11. Well, he was holding his larynx at the time so what do you expect....? :024:
  12. Yes I was thinking that the Esson thing might not appeal to him..Hmmmmm ...
  13. Dead right ,Johnboy. She has her say and a paw in it for sure. LOL Have not quite got round to persuading her that she really should consult with her oracle and name the winning teams for the future games for me. It's an ethics thing with her, don't you know. :024: :cdn-flag:
  14. In Vancouver be careful about mentioning MLS which to us generally means Multiple Listing Service i.e the service Realtors (house agents) use online to advertise your home for sale. It equates to a charging of huge Real Estate commissions, based on percentages of the final sale price, thus contributing to inflated house prices. The average house price across the whole of the Vancouver and district area is now supposed to be $1,000,000. In outlying districts it is supposed to be much less. Next year the footy MLS welcomes The Vancouver Whitecaps into the system from the North American Soccer League but I am left wondering if the Whitecaps have the players at this stage to compete successfully with some of the other teams.? They intend to shift their home park to the downtown which, in my humble opinion, is a dumb move due to the great difficulties posed by traffic, poor parking , etc. We do have elevated rail transit but it has not yetr eached as far out as Maple ridge where I stay so it means a long drive to a transit "Skytrain" station etc. Probably not for me.
  15. So what do you guys think of him? Would be fit in at Tulloch and do a job for ICT do you think?
  16. Barrow , in the Furness District of North West England, is the former shipbuilding base of British Nuclear subs. It is a typical row-house, industrial town which was decimated when the shipping contracts ran down.Although Barrow -in-Furness is nothing to shout out about to live in, the surrounding district and countrside is very attractive. A fomer poster on here, who was a clever lad, became a nuclear engineer in one of the major shipbuilding firms but I don't know what happened to him after that. My ex-wife's family comes from Barrow and that is why I pricked up my ears and eyes when I saw the name. :024:
  17. Darn, I forgot to mention his name.
  18. Everybody is right --to some extent. But the true problem is that lazy and un -motivated players are paid so much money that why should they bother themselves to play out of their skins for their country. The very high salary means that it is no longer a wage for a piece of work well done,; it's way out of that realm now. And the Manager, or the club Management, cannot just fire them for non-effort because players nowadays would have a hard time deciding to sign a contract that included such a clause. And there is so much money floating about the English system in particular nowadays that there will always be a very rich arab to be found who is willing to pay outlandish sums of money to try to buy success. It's their plaything; a football club, and they measure their own worth in terms of big reward or financial success. In short, managers now need to be more than someone who has spent most of his adult life playing the game or being around it in some other important capacity, but also needs to have a degree in psychology. The days appear to have long gone when it's the indivdual players who are dressed down or let go for poor playing attitudes. Now it is all about finding a scapegoat to make the bosses feel important and justified in taking drastic action against the one vulnerable cog in the wheel--Mr Manager....basically who cannot fight back. Mind you, it has to be said that Managers nowadays are , by any standards, very well paid and when they lose their job at one club they are often able to join the merry-go-round and get another one , often abroad with emerging football nations, or simply quietly slide in with another club who understands the system and the fact that the Manager is simply a scapegoat but could be very useful to another team due to the experience that he has accumulated over many years service. In the case of mr Capello, or Capiello, he has wangled another two years as Manager of England because the 10 million (yes MILLION) pounds that is rumoured to be the cost of sacking him is just too rich a price to pay for the English soccer bosses. Whether it's dollars or pounds I forget, but no matter, it does seem..well...a tad excessive don't you think in today's desperate economic situation. In fact I find these sums of money so out of the park that I can hardly credit it. The answer? Find bright-eyed -and -bushy-tailed youngsters who are willing to run all day and have the passion in their blood to work hard and play hard for their country, viewing it as an honour and a privilege to be selected. And before I quit, do remember all the teams filled with good players who have these qualities and are devastated when they lose the game. Like Ghana today, for example. Am I wrong?--feel free to tell me and then go on to advise what you think the answer is. Personally speaking, I think the pendulum for England has swung too far in favour of the players who no longer value the honour of being selected for their country and spend more time on the park evading their responsibilities by either passing the ball back to the full backs or the 'keeper than rampaging forward to try to attack and provide some real entertainment for the fans who, actually are the ones who pay their Prima Donna salaries.
  19. Check out my post a few minutes ago on "What players would you like to see coming in" I recommend that Terry at least see if he can contact the Ghanaian goalkeeper as shown on TV today (Ghana versus Uruguay) who is big, brawny and bathletlic and made a few cracking saves today. AND he is looking for a new club, according to the English commentator who also was favourably impressed by his prowess.!!! Might not please Lionel but...heh...life often is not fair. As I said on there ..."nothing ventured, nothing gained"
  20. Watching the World Cup today, Ghana versus Uruguay, the commentator was waxing eloquent about the Ghanaian goalkeeper, Kingson, who did well with several great saves. The commentator mused "....Kingson is a good goalie and ..etc.etc .... AND HE IS LOOKING FOR A NEW CLUB.!" At this my ears pricked up and I thought that if Terry was interested in signing a world cup goalie from an African team who is athletic and brave and is looking to advance his career, why not contact him." I mean , nothing ventured, nothing gained. ...............
  21. Can you post thelink, then?
  22. Richie, being Irish, will also instill a continuing and positive attitude in bioth these Irish players. And support them with encouragement. Mr Barrowman does not appear to be in the same mould as Rooney. First off, Rooney came on to a strong game last season and is a big lad who is not afraid of hard work.Cofidence must nowbe oozing out ofhim which makes all the world of difference. Alsohe doesnot appear to have a big head so.... With Terry backing them up ,both could have a great season. Positive period.
  23. Out here on the West Coast of Canada we are patiently wiating for the "Big One". It is not a question of "if" anymore. It's "when". These two tectonic plates keep moving over one another out there in the Pacific Ocean some 100 miles from Vancouver and the strain is building week by week. I think it is actually overdue. Vancouver City officials went down to Chile or one of these countries recently to assess the damage of their earthquake on their so-called safe buildings , how they fell and why? They can use this informnation in the north because the tectonic plates are similar and similar results are expected with one exceoption--the one up here is going to be huge. I can see Mount Baker from the rear of my townhouse It's a mountain I have skiied on when I was younger. It is situated in Washington State, U.S.A. and is a non-active volcano. Mount St Helens is a sister of Baker and when it blew suddenly a few years ago the devastation was absolutely incredible. The side of the mountain blew off. Trees within a 60 mile radius of the mountain were all blown down and most of them were incinerated by the periclastic cloud of ultra hot fine ash. And so on. So we live with increasing foreboding knowing that no matter where we live in this region all of us are going to feel it when the "BIG ONE" lets go.
  24. Merger between Inverness City and Clachnacuddin perhaps ?
  25. You are right of course, P. M. F. the way they do it to these large marine beings is horrible. Even a bullet in the brain would be preferable to the cruel butchery perpetrated against them in a captive situation where they are unable to escape . But I did go on to explain my reasoning which is basically that somehow the population would have to be convinced that their diet could be filled from another source or replaced and that the cost of eating would not rise. Faint hope on both these counts. It's all about money of course and powerful forces are arraigned against the proposed stoppage of such butchery.
