  1. This is my thinking as well. By no means the worst player in the world, but is he the goalscorer we need to save us from relegation? Well aside from spells in Estonia (where Tarmo Kink also had an incredible goal record) and a purple patch at Motherwell four years ago, he doesn't look it. I see some fans on here and on social media have already gotten excited over highlights videos of him. Remember the Dean McDonald Rule folks!
  2. I heard somewhere today we've sold 700 tickets. Should hit 1,000 by Saturday I'd have thought, along with a few walk ups.
  3. The same girlfriend who often stands you up and goes awol, and when she does turn up, isn't always in the most sober of states...allegedly.
  4. I haven't seen the old Nokia style text speak for years!
  5. If we aren't going to play with two proper wingers, then we need to start playing with two up front or even three. I'd quite like to see us drop Doumbouya and give Fisher a proper run in the team. He might not have scored as many, but he seems to have a far greater workrate and more pace than Doumbouya, who seems to be useless unless the ball is played right to him while I've also grown tired of his dying swan impression everytime he feel the slightest touch. Polworth needs moved into the centre while the lazy Vigurs needs dropped. I'd like a straight 4-3-3 tomorrow, with Mckay and Tremarco bombing up and down the wings. It'll certainly serve us better in attack and let's be honest, it can't be any worse.
  6. You are aware Donald Park left the club nearly a decade ago...yes?

I remember reading that at the time and being pretty worried, especially when some on here were talking as if he was going to be amazing. I was also worried when I heard Richie Foran say he was a 'grafter' and that Newport were sad to lose him. Had we scouted him at all? So far the views of the Newport fans would be fitting for his performances with us as well...

Heard a rumour at the weekend he might be offski and heading back down south.
  9. Funnily enough, the pronunciation of Van Gogh came up on QI years ago and I'm sure Stephen Fry said the correct pronunciation was 'Van Hoch'. Certainly not 'Van Go' as the Americans hideously call him.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.
  11. I do as I am a cultured gentleman.
  12. I don't get it. Yes, please do. I like his paintings by the way!
  13. My mother happens to be Welsh and is a Welsh speaker. She pronounces it 'Oh-Ine'. It's not Owen anyway, like people used to constantly refer to OTJ as.
  14. How do people pronounce Foran (and to a lesser extent Doran) by the way? I've always called him For-Ann like you're saying 'for Anne' but is that how he says it? I seem to recollect Terry Butcher putting an emphasis on the Ran part but I don't know if he's right.
  15. Lonsana Doumbouya - The Christian name is easy enough but I've mostly heard his surname pronounced by fans as 'Doom-Boy-Ah'. Now granted, it looks a bit like that to an English speaker, but I watched his game for Guinea on YouTube a few weeks back and it had French commentary. They pronounced his name 'Doom-Boo-Ya' which does sound more French. Owain Fôn Williams - Now this is one that no-one seems to get it right at all. First of all I've heard some fans referring to him simply as 'Williams'. This is wrong and would be akin to calling someone with the surname MacDonald as 'Donald'. His first name is not pronounced like Owen or 'Oh-Wayne' as some seem to think. It is in-fact 'Oh-Ine' (Ine sounding like wine with the W taken away). His surname is also not pronounced 'fon', it is in-fact pronounced as 'Vorn'. I've also been told by a Welsh speaker that the Williams is not pronounced as it would be for a non-Welsh person, as in Welsh you actually acknowledge the A, meaning 'Will-Ee-Ams' is how to say it. Altogether, the correct pronounciation is 'Oh-Ine Vorn Will-Ee-Ams'. I expect these to be pronounced correctly by all fans from now on.
  16. Could Foran not come out of retirement and play as a keeper? There is some logic here: he's fairly tall, still in decent shape, has/had a great leap as a player and does have experience of playing GAA which I guess isn't unlike being a keeper.
  17. I was under the interest you needed at least two designated keepers in the matchday squad. Even then though, seemingly Esson is fit. Does beg the question though, in the unlikely event we did need to play an outfield player in goal, who would be? Josh Meekings would be the best choice IMHO (for obvious reasons!).

Cliftonville in Belfast play at Solitude. I think that's a great name for a ground and very distinctive. What about just calling the ground Caledonia? It'd be quite a unique but memorable name I reckon.
  19. Odd that Brown is not allowed to play, but Mackay is despite also being on loan earlier this season.
  20. Looks like Lewis Horner must've voted.

I was in JD Sports last week and all they had left by the looks of things was kids sizes. Not that I'd be buying one anyway of course.

  24. Part of the reason I think lately is our formation and tactics are far too predictable. It's 4-2-3-1 every game and you can almost guarantee the starting eleven before you even turn up at the ground. We saw on Saturday Dundee use a 5-3-2. We have two good attacking wing-backs in Raven and Tremarco, so we have the players to do it. Time we gave it a try IMO.
  25. Remember that season we started rubbish and miles down the table and Dundee were miles ahead, only for their form to fall like a stone and we waltzed our way to the title? Happy days. Truly happy days.
