  1. I think you've inadvertently come up with a great newspaper headline for this story!
  2. This is probably the right time to remind people to be very careful what they say regading these allegations. Innocent until proven guilty, possibility of matters going to trial etc.
  3. I couldn't work out if D had simply forgotten the at the end of his post, but it appears to be serious! The main flaw IMO is that the whole idea is based around solving a problem that, to most people, simply isn't a problem! Dunfermline got 70 points this season, do people think it is wrong or unfair that they didn't get the chance to battle for the SPL title or at least a place in Europe? Nope. Likewise, next season, should Hamilton be allowed the chance to show how high up up the SPL they could get? No because at the point at which a "split" was taken they hadn't done well enough and were on the wrong side of it, so the best they can hope for is to finish above the teams they are thrown in with. It's like in golf, you miss the cut, you're out, even though you might possibly have gone on to win the tournament if you'd been given the chance to continue. Well you had your chance in the first 2 rounds and you blew it. The odd/even thing then removes the best thing about having the split in the first place, the chance to maximise the number of "6 pointers" and meaningful fixtures at the end of the season. 5th v 9th in May? Yawn. As a minor point, you've then got the difficulty of balancing the number of times teams face each other home & away. At present, equilibrium relies on the teams at the split being in the half of the league the SPL expected them to be in - which is difficult, and contentious. With D's idea, it relies on predicting whether a team will be in an odd or even position at that time!
  4. What was Tuffey doing when Accies scored? Looked to be walking into a crowd of players at the back post, ball never even got that far and the goals were left gaping.
  5. Genius!
  6. Some people will inevitably accuse Killie of lying down today, but that would be very unfair and totally overlooks just how bravely they battled for the first 47 seconds of the match.
  7. Nice to end the season on such a good run. Can't do any harm for season ticket sales, and for attracting players who want to join at team heading in the right direction.
  8. Why is it being played today, before the season ends and on the same day as normal league games? Takes away a bit of the sense of occasion if you ask me.
  9. We are clearly releasing a higher calibre of player than them. But is that good or bad?
  10. The one who was at Dundee last season?
  11. And more importantly, "work permit"?
  12. That's a cracking wee tour lined up, and having it all arranged well in advance is a big improvement on last year when we seemed to be scrabbling round for opponenents in the north-west.
  13. Yes, a lot of people might be surprised that our most successful season ever (so far!) came under the management of Craig Brewster until January then Charlie Christie for the remainder.
  14. Who was officially credited with our first goal? Having seen the highlights it looks like Rooney to me, Foran's (excellent) header looked like it was just trundling along the line, hadn't crossed it and wasn't going to. Hard to tell though.
  15. No doubt that talks have been taking place and it's a very obvious sort of move that wouldn't surprise anyone. They would definitley help to improve your pitiful, relegation dodging team. What are the prospects of Calderwood staying to help you survive another season in Division 1? At the weekend he said that he had set out his demands and the board were going to come back to him.
  16. One positive bit of news amongst this disgraceful saga is that 2 Ayrshire men have been taken into custody this morning regarding the parcel bombs. But that guy last night, what an absolute ****ing moron, his actions could lead to consequences that spoil things for all proper fans.
  17. Indeed. If he leaves this summer with that record intact he'll be the subject of an obvious ICT trivia question in years to come.
  18. 3 home wins in a row. When did that last happen? I'd like to think that Fortress Longman is being rebuilt.
  19. Just saw this on BBC. Terry on Rooney Hard to tell whether Terry is optimistic or pessimistic about keeping him. It is, however, almost unheard of for a player to turn down the chance of earning, 2-4 times their current salary.
  20. In this modern age of telecommunications etc, that shouldn't take long, should it? With some players, that explanation would simply be a stalling tactic and a euphamism for "I can't give you an answer yet because my agent is frantically trying to get other offers onto the table for me". Not that I would blame him for doing that if that was the case. He seems a pretty straight guy whose top priority might be football rather than money so I haven't given up hope that he stays. In fact, perhaps the situation is that he has got better offers financially, and has one of those heart v head dilemmas. I thought we were fortunate to keep hold of him last summer, and again in January, so anything else is a real bonus.
  21. Just out of interest, why do people think Seniors should automatically get a concession at all? Blatant age discrimination which is not justified by any means testing. When I consider all the people I know, the over 60s/65s are, on the whole, better placed financially than younger adults - mortgage paid off, kids left home etc. Recent changes in legislation also mean that more and more of that age group will continue working past the traditional retirement age. I know this sort of blanket seniors concession is common across all clubs and in other areas of life, but that doesn't necessarily make it right, and I wonder if it is a well intended gesture that is becoming outdated and unsustainable.
  22. Is he the best keeper we have ever had? I would say so.
  23. Completely deserved, he's been phenomenomenomal and is perhaps the only player to have maintained an excellent level of performance throughout the season.
  24. Like it! So what does that make Partick Thistle?
