  2. Have to disagree there. United would be a far better side if they still had him. If they end up not winning anything this season, as is possible, maybe their reluctance to pay the asking price will be seen as a false economy.
  3. Funnily enough I had the 'QPR rant' sent to me by Email this morning, and was going to post it on here, but Heilandee beat me to it. Sad thing is I find myself in total agreement with most of what the guy is saying.
  4. My thoughts as well. The word 'legend' is grossly overused these days, but if anyone qualifies, then Bill certainly did.
  5. I was sent this recently, and it gave me a good laugh. There are a few sweary words in it, but I think removing them, or bleeping them out, would spoil the effect. Maybe the mods will disagree! THE DIARY OF AN ENGLISHMAN LIVING IN THE HIGHLANDS "Our First Winter" DEC 20th It's starting to snow. The first of the season and the first we've seen for years. The wife and I took out our hot toddies and sat on the porch watching the fluffy soft flakes drift gently down clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It's so beautiful and peaceful. DEC 24th We awoke to a lovely blanket of crystal white glistening snow covering as far as the eye could see. What a fantastic sight, every tree and bush covered with a beautiful white mantle. I shovelled snow for the first time ever and loved it. I did both our driveway and the pavement. Later that day a snowplough came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shovelled it away again. The children next door built a snowman with coal for eyes and a carrot for a nose, and had a snowball fight, a couple just missed me and hit the car so I threw a couple back and joined in their fun. DEC 26th It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temperature dropped to around minus 8 degrees. Several branches on our trees and bushes snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shovelled the driveway again. Shortly afterwards the snowplough came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is now a brownish - grey. JAN 1st Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon became ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tyres for both our cars. Fell on my arse in the driveway. Went to a physio but nothing was broken. JAN 5th Still bitterly cold. Sold the wife's car and bought her a 4x4 to get her to work. She slid into a wall and did considerable damage to the right wing. Had another 8 inches of white ***** last night. Both vehicles are covered in salt and iced up slush That ******* snowplough came by twice today.........Where's that bloody shovel? JAN 9th More ******* snow. Not a tree or bush on our property that hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a paraffin heater which tipped over and nearly torched the house. I managed to put the flames out but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hands. Lost all my eyebrows and eyelashes. Car hit a ******* deer on the way to casualty and was written off. JAN 13th ******* ******* white ***** just keeps on coming down. Have to put on every article of clothing just to go to the post box. The little **** next door ambushed me with snowballs on the way back - I'll shove that carrot so far up the little *******'s arse it'll take a good surgeon hours to find it. If I ever catch the ****** that drives the snowplough I'll chew open his chest and rip out his heart with my teeth. I think the ******* hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shovelling and then he accelerates down the street like Michael Schufuckingmacher and buries the ******* driveway again. JAN 17th Sixteen more ******* inches of ******* snow and ******* ice and ******* sleet and god knows what other white ***** fell last night. I am in court in 3 months time for assaulting the snowplough driver with an ice-pick. Can' t move my ******* toes. Haven't seen the sun for 5 weeks. Minus 20 and more ******* snow forecast. JAN 18th **** THIS, I'M MOVING BACK TO LONDON

  7. MPs get the blame for everything. Which 3 are killing music? Lets start a campaign not to vote for them.
  8. I also feel this decision is harsh. Surely it is time for suspensions caused by yellow/red cards to be effective in the next competitive games, whatever the competition, rather than hanging about until the following season as in this case.
  9. No surprise there then. I imagine most of the fixtures rearranged for tomorrow night will be off again. I just can't believe that they would try for the rearranged games so quickly following the original date in conditions like these, which are pretty widespread.
  10. Our bins and recycling are not due for collection until Monday. I'd be surprised if they are done. We haven't seen the postman for 3 days. Don't know if they're working or not. Our young paper boy has been great. Not missed a day yet, so I intend to reward him well when I see him.
  11. Even here in sunny Berkshire we have a good 7 or 8 inches of snow so far, and the way its falling at the moment, we're in for a good deal more. Certainly the most I've seen down here in all my 40 years of living in the suburbs of Scotland!
  12. Strange decision, should he go. It puts his decision not to leave Burnley for Celtic last season in perspective when he is happier sticking with relegation threatened EPL clubs, rather than potential European competition with Celtic.
  13. Its exactly the same down here in Englandshire. My two sons who were born in Berkshire, support Liverpool and Newcastle, not any of the local teams like Reading or Wycombe. At least they are true ICT fans and accompany me up to games occasionally. However I cannot get my grandchildren to show any interest in ICT whatsoever, despite various bribes from me . They only support Chelsea and Manchester United, again ignoring the local Berkshire teams. Personally, I think it is all wrong, but what can one do?
  14. I'd be against a winter break. Football has traditionally been a autumn/winter/spring game. I think the football season already encroaches too much into the cricket season!
  15. Just about the most sensible three paragraphs I've read on any post in this forum in a very long time.
  16. I agree, 100%. Surely there can't be many other contenders in this category. I also think that Johnboy's assessment of all the categories is pretty well spot on. So obviously I haven't had enough to drink yet. Still, the night is young...

  18. I'd keep him. He's raw, but shows some potential, plus he scores the odd goal. I'd consider moving him to Right Back, dropping Rossco, and look for a centre half in January.
  19. I wish him well but he wouldn't have been my choice. However, I appreciate that the job itself is a poisened challice, and we can think ourselves lucky that anyone at all will take it!
  20. Glad to see this book on someone else's list. I thought at the time I read it that it was the best football book I'd read. I also quite enjoyed Denis Law's autobiography. I can't remember the title, but I think 'King' features in it. I'm really looking forward to Pele's book which I know I'm getting 'as a surprise' Xmas present.

  22. I'm sure 'heart' is ruling 'head' for many fans on this one. I'm afraid I'm in the 'no' camp, for the simple reason that I can't see him adding anything to the squad as a player anymore, and we already have an extremely expensive management team. Adding Barry to this team, unproven as he is as a coach, doesn't make sense to me. Spend the money on a centre half.
