When Will We Get Our Own Identity?

I know the club is still young and it is only a few short years since we were two clubs who were staunch rivals of each other but when do you think our club will have enough of our own history for our fans to claim our own identity? Do we still hang on to old allegiances from the "big" teams we used to support?

One of our more popular chants "Care/Stand Free" is a chant which Aberdeen made their own many years before the merger, we have seen sectarianism creep into the stands with the "Bobby Sands" song and BJK banner earlier in the season and now I have noticed a signature on these forums referring to "Bloody Sunday", I understand that the user is trying to play on Butcher's blood soaked bandage but to many of the older users on this site Bloody Sunday will mean something a lot more sinister.

Can we not find our own identity instead of latching on to other clubs chants and political affiliations?

I haven't read all of this thread so apologies if this has been said already but one thing that would help our identity massively is keeping the red and blue striped shirt. In my opinion it is who we are. Killie and the midden's strips are always stripes, IMO that is who we are - red and blue stripes. Whether there is more blue or more red I couldn't give a toss but keep the stripes. On every home kit. For good.

1) RIGHT about the highland association thing, we need to keep it original and something we know us teuchters have specifically gathered together to listen to in a crowds of over 17500, for the last fifteen years or more...

2) its NOT hard to learn the words

3) associated with the highlands and nothing and nowhere else.

4) It draws the fact that people and things in the past do matter, but it will be sung by a young, new born club (and when its sung well we will be proving the point things move on!)

5) I could hold my scarf up to it.

PLEASE skip to 3 mins 30 seconds and tell me this song isnt worth a shout :rotflmao:

I like that Northern Jaggie.

But with my bro telling me about the Carter USM announcement I immediately thought of this song....

First verse lyrics...

In spite of all you been told about Elvis

the good die old and helpless

In bobble hats and armchair football scarves

For the big match with Antarctic (change to Caley) Thistle

They didn't catch the half time whistle

when they wheeled on the pop music stars

with their pop music guitars

And they were singing

1, 2, 3, happy neighbourhood

Do Re Me, so far so good

Nah you're right it'd never catch on.

To the tune of "Seasons in the sun" by Terry Jacks....(probably more hip when Nirvana sang it - but then who hasn't sung it....)

Seasons in the Sun

We have joy, we have fun, we have seasons in the sun

But the leagues we have climbed

Were seasons out of time

We are RED, we are BLUE, the CALEY THISTLE crew

But the leagues we have climbed

Were seasons out of time

We have joy, we have fun, we have seasons in the sun

We are RED, we are BLUE, the CALEY THISTLE crew

etc etc

;) :thumb04: :018: :lol::rotflmao:

Now we are fecking talking, easy to learn and catchy, this seriously gets my vote.

Like it could get te chorus going easy

Go on, I'll stand up and be pelted :rotflmao:

On Dragan's idea:

<chanted>

Butch and Maurice Malpas came up to Inverness

Butch and Maurice Malpas to clean up Brewster's mess

Mind the drums of the '45, Highland spirit still alive

If you want to lift yer team, raise yer voice and sing with me

Show 'em what we're here for

Glory 2, 3, 4

<sung>

[Chorus]

Glory glory Caley Thistle [x3]

Inverness go marching on on on!

Play it down the left and Ross'll get ya that's for sure

Pavels in the middle says yer never gonna score

Grant and Lio laughing cos they've seen it all before

Inverness go marching on

And we sing

[Chorus]

Ryan up to Russell, he's our engine on the park

Roy'll bring the petrol, Ian Black has got the spark

A hundred miles an hour Richie drives us through the dark

Inverness go marching on

And we sing

[Chorus]

Terry, Doc and Maurice in the dugout we can see

Spurring on the players of the famous ICT

Eric O. or Dougie's gonna score a goal for me

Inverness go marching on

And we sing

[Chorus]

Craig Levein is moaning that they never get the luck

He'd rather play the Rangers but at TCS he's stuck

We know there's ladies present so we wish he'd just go home

Inverness go marching on

And we sing

[Chorus]

Most of the squad names are easy to work around, and our steak pies are full o' gristle/Charlie Richmond's lost his whistle fits nicely into the chorus :thumb04:

Flower of Scotland, Garbage. Caledonia, cringewrothy

What about "Hey Hey My My" by Neil Young but insert Caley Thistle into the lines.

Hey hey, my my

Caley Thistle can never die

There's more to the picture

Than meets the eye.

Hey hey, my my.

Out of the blue and into the red

You pay for this, but they'll strike you dead

And once you're gone, you can't come back ahead

When you're out of the blue and into the red.

The king is gone but he's not forgotten

Is this the story of johnny rotten?

It's better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps

The king is gone but he's not forgotten.

I couldn't think of anything to go with that bit but the "king" is supposed to be Elvis Pressley. Elvis had just died when this came out and he is "not forgotten", John Lydon on the other was just making it big at this point.

Wilson is gone but he's not forgotten

Brewster's choices were rank rotten

We won't drop out now coz butcher never sleeps

Wilson is gone but he's not forgotten

WTF?? :thumb04: You reckon flower of scotland and caldeonia are garbage but want us to sing about johnny rotten!! :rotflmao:

Get this going between two groups of fans or the two stands! Caley jags ole ole

To be fair Alex there are some of us who class the "Fault Line" as the boundary of the Highlands.

Others class the fault line as the shortest distance between Craig Brewster and Malky Thomson.

And to answer the original question....

On a Saturday in May, when Grant holds the cup over his head!

I don't think Runrig would work, it's a well known song and it would be ruined if it became associated with a club.

I like it but dont see it working

I think getting the corus there would work really well!

Is it not better to be unique, bizarre and stoopid.

I liked Sloop John B (our version) or even the original HMS Sneck "theme tune" - even if I wrote it as a total pisss take !!

Hearts of Olden glory would work really well if everyone sang it, always loved that song.

How about 'The Impossible Dream' from the musical Man from La Mancha (although to be honest I know the Carter USM version best)

First Verse

To dream the impossible dream

To fight the unbeatable foe

To bear with unbearable sorrow

To run where the brave dare not go.

Chorus

This is my quest, to follow that star ...

No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...

To fight for the right, without question or pause ...

To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

Easy to change the lyrics if you like (but seem fairly apt) most people know the tune from the Honda ad and, while slow, can be quite upbeat

While you are wrong - and you know you are wrong - do you not agree that the sentiment of the song is apt? Actually the whole Don Quixote thing could be used to sum us up. We will never win the league as long as the Old Firm are there but we will still keep fighting and keep our faith.

I do agree with the part of your post after you said I was wrong but I am correct "the impossible dream" was a shameless act of selling out to try to cash in on the Christmas number one, should never had had a place in the Carter discography. Like Craig Brewster, a blip on the, up till then, immaculate career of one superb band. Shame really :rotflmao:
