2010, new year, new start. Working on the rumours about financial issues, and the fact that probably the current management team will leave, who would you want as manager and why? Don't shoot me down here, but after the pre-season friendly against the can cans, what about Gordon Winton? There must be some decent players knocking around in the Highland League.

He did well in his first spell because he was most of the time player and manager. For some reason he couldn't get the respect and co-operation of the players unless he was on the field with them.

It was more or less the same story at Dundee Utd.

He also has first hand knowledge of up and coming youth prospects and, with the current financial restrictions, wouldn't be discouraged from including home grown talent in the first team. Charlie's record stands up against others who have gone before and after. Remember the victorty at Iprix?

The next manager has to be one who strives to play attacking football. ICT will go nowhere but backwards in the near future unless they play a style that gets goals and win games. At this point, Charlie Christie may be the best place. Even if someone like Ossie Ardiles was to put him name in again (unlikely I know, but not impossible) I would not be as inclined to say no straight away.

So the fact that he binned us when apparently the pressure got to much for him doesnt matter does it? He had a good record i agree, and we played some good stuff under him but i lost all respect for him with the way he left us. He should never get another chance.

Did he bin us or was he asked to step aside to let one of the golf team back into the job?

Yeah he should be because of his timing. Why did he leave it till then? He must of been thinking about that decision long before it but he decided to do it a couple of games into the season. Surely it would of been better making that decision before the season starts so a new manager can come in and make signings of his own. That would have been better for the club he supposedly loves. Im surprised the centenary club job hasn't got too much for him.

I think your criticism is a tad unfair. Charlie has a great affection for the club and gave it his all when manager and still gives 100% with the youth teams.

You will find he was reluctant to take the job in the first place and publicly admitted this. Maybe he saw it as too big a step up. Anyway I think oneday he'll make a great manager or DOF.

It's now quite well known public knowledge that he tried to resign three times over the course of that year, with each previous time being refused.

Good up and coming managers and experienced lower league managers that i would like to see at TCS in future are: Alan Maitland (Alloa), Alan Moore (Stirling), John Coughlin (Stenhousemuir), Jim McInally (East Stirlingshire), Danny Lennon (Cowdenbeath) and Jim Chapman (Dumbarton) but to be honest it would be a gamble on any manager without experience of the 1st Div but i would go for Jim Chapman out of all the managers i have stated above or if i was going to go for a young up and coming manager already in Div 1 i would say Brian Reid.

Alan Maitland? as in the former Clyde manager? famed as the manager there who at 1 nil down would bring on a defender to secure defeat. Eh naw. Reckon we could do better than that.

Even if Robbo were to be offered the job at some time in the future I don't see what the fact that he has not been a Manager recently has to do with it.

Unless at 31 he has developed Alzheimers disease, or vertigo from growing too tall in the interim.

I don't think this thread will impress Mr Butcher at this time when the poor gent, with extremely limited resources at his disposal and witha fractured team of still-gelling (that's a 3 step advance on still-born) young, somewhat inexperienced men not about to bring home the bacon, still (oops, sorry about the alliteration) has not even completed his one year contract.

As for others mentioned, any man who can make and gamble away a million pounds, having worked for ICT , then Aberdeen, must have brains. I mean, where did all the play money come from in the first place unless he was smart enough to have hired a creative Accountant....?

I once knew a gambler who ruined his marriage, stole money from Santa Claus and alienated all his friends, stole the money I paid him to put a new engine in my GMC van and then disappeared into the bush ,emerging unshaven and haggard a couple of months later to face a reporter, and a T V camera, who asked him why he did such things ;then ran back into the bushes....... and never has been seen since in a pair of Gucci shoes.

I am not going to moralise since I well remember the old adage .."There but for the Grace of God go I" but hiring someone with a "background" is risky.And invites no end of "I told you so-ers" to come out of the woodwork if, and when, things go wrong.

CC probably never had his heart in the job anyway so I would be very surprised if he even was considered again.
