Caley Jags 2017/18 squad + changes in/out

Started a little squad roster with ins and outs from the season past. There's gonna be a fair bit of movement I think. This might help keep track

Any help noting confirmed signings in the comments and I'll edit the post to suit. Please avoid idle gossip and rumours. Just definite inward bound (contract length if possible) and departures (Destination). Also any up to date information on those I've put ??? next to would be appreciated as well.

I have noted there is a transfers in and out thread but this is more of a squad list, which will take those into account.

  • I agree with you. He makes mistakes and they can be some realy frustrating errors but the amount of hate he gets from the stands is absolutely ridiculous.

  • Don't think we saw enough of him to form any opinion on how capable he may or may not have been. Imagine if we'd punted Ridgers after only having seen him in action a couple of times....or Coll D

  • Liam Polworth is the leading assist provider in the Scottish Championship so far this season, with nine.  He has 14 overall for us this season (three in the league cup, two in the challenge cup).  Nex

I had a look and it was a 2 year deal he'd signed so expires next summer.

Think there is a hint on the clubs twitter

Might have been a 1 + 1 deal whereby both parties agree to activating 2nd year.

Joe Chalmers -  2 year deal. Previously at Motherwell

I've added our new striker Felitciano Zschusschen. There's been no official announcement but a) he came on as a sub v Stirling, b) he was mentioned in the post match interview albeit very briefly and c) there is a club photo of him holding the home strip with his name and number 19 so it appears to be a done deal. Contract length details will be added when known. If that means waiting for the new Football Manager then so be it.

Can't find anything about Alex Cooper contract length other than it being a short term deals.  One imagines it's long enough to cover injuries in wide areas that we currently have with Aaron and Zak.

He is contracted until January.

2 years Caman. Like most of our signings this summer. Very surprised with our policy this year. Normally in this division it's better to start with 1 year deals so that the players play out of their skin for longer contracts, and if they don't work out the club isn't stuck with the player, and the player can try somewhere else. Could be the deals all have release clauses after first year. I don't know.

Give him a chance, it's still more or less pre season. He seems to find himself in the right places and might improve as he forges links with his team mates. He's new to the British game. Might take a bit to get used to it. Could be a decent option from the bench to start with.

- further note, Connor Bell has signed a 1 year deal with the club.

''Zschusschen made his debut for the Curaçaoan national football team in a qualification match for the 2018 World Cup against Montserrat on 28 March 2015. He also got his first goal for the national team by scoring from a penalty. ''

13 appearances, 9 goals. Billy never scored for NI.

I'm sure our manager thought about all that BEFORE he made the contract offers

Its not normally the manager that makes contract offers. They just ask the board to arrange a deal with the player and his agent.

We've seen a marked change in recent years since Butcher left with regards to contracts. Rarely did new signings get longer than 2 years and many often just got one. We then started handing out 3 year contract extensions left right and centre. I'm not sure if this is a change in board policy or something the management team has pushed for ("We'll attract a better calibre of player if we give them more security to move north")

Don't know where your info comes from but the manager is always consulted 're signings. If he wasn't how the he'll would a director with no football knowledge know what to offer out of the budget and how long the manager wants the player for?

Most modern club managers, after identifying the player and notifying the board of a wish to sign leave contract negotiations to the board, with preferred contract length. They may then go back to the manager and inform them as to the impact the signing will have on his remaining budget, and the manager will then ok it. Even then the higher up the ladder you go in pro football the less the manager has influence on contract.

But the DoF with business, contract and budget knowledge is certainly the one who sits down with the player and their agent. Whether the manager is in the room, so to speak, for initial talks is entirely up to the club and manager.

Maybe of interest to you that we don't have a dof and our directors either have no or very limited football knowledge. Who at ICT do you think offers contracts - Tommy Cumming? Don't believe everything you read CJ.

You're the one who mentioned directors. Lol. In our case and most other cases it would be the chairman who takes on this role. Contracts generally being handled by business people. What their actual title is, is of little relevance.

This is because the football people have already run the rule over the player in a football sense. Whereas they may outline basics in discussions (contract length may be discussed), finances are conducted by finance people. Not those who have "either no or very limited knowledge" of running a business. Contract details are thrashed out by the chairman/Chief executive/ Director  and the players agent.

I don't know what decade you're living in but managers these days have far less input in contract negotiations and signings than they once did. Managers can no longer sneak transfers through behind the owners back or sell them for a case of bubbly. They are largely restricted to the football operations side of things. At full time level anyway.

You shouldn't believe everything you're told caleyboy if you think Robbo is sitting in an office dotting i's and crossing t's... :wink:

Is Elbouzedi getting 0 as his squad number, or has he just not been given a number yet?

Okey dokey. Cheers.

He's down as number 18 in the programme.

Caman, the official site has been woeful in its ability to keep basic things like new signing updates and the squad list for this season up to date. As well as releasing any information of note.

I've always considered it a bit half hearted.

How hard is it to get the manager to update them with a list of available players for team news regarding suspensions and injuries. Not asking for a personal medical record. Just along the lines of "knee injury" would suffice. "Back in training"

We maintain the squad list program for the club but can only do so when we receive the information. We also maintain the technical aspects of the website (hosting and security updates) but have no responsibilities in terms of the editorial content. We have recently invested quite a lot of money to revamp the squad/stats program and we hope the fruits of that will be seen soon.

For some reason, even now the season is underway, the club seem reluctant to pass squad information on in a timely fashion. I dont have time to chase it down on a daily basis.  This is where the club (and the supporters) should realise how much they really miss Don or someone like him. You can slag him off or cast aspersions as to his motives/character or anything else, and you can disagree with him mildly or vehemently, but the simple fact of the matter is that he was the one running around collating this info, getting in onto the site, and doing a whole host of other things including looking at a total revamp of the (official) site that would cost the club five figures if they put it out to tender. Thats before you even look at the media side of things with twitter/facebook and the push to get audio/video coverage for fans of the club.

This is not a criticism of the others who are trying to pick up the slack. We do still have a media team and they will do sterling work but its not an easy task and it will take time for them to fill the empty shoes. Peter has had to step into the breach for the website and add that on top of all his other duties so he posts what he can when he can find a spare second or two. I am sure if you give him a brush he can stick it somewhere and sweep the floor at the same time !! There is still a non-techy (as opposed to technophobe) culture at the TCS and the first thought is not to get things onto the website or social media .... so unless you have someone going round and cajoling others for the information or sticking video/still cameras in people's faces then you are going to see a diminished product this year. I hope I am wrong, but thats how I see it.
