I hear the former Caley president Hugh Crout's health has deteriorated considerably. I am pretty sure Hugh will now be well into his 80's but I hope he recovers well enough to enjoy many more happy years.

Hugh will be in his late 80's I worked for him at C H Websters 1974-1975 and he was a great boss.

Hugh is now 89 and up until about 6 months ago was still going to home games and the gym at Inverness Leisure. Sadly he is terminally ill with cancer but despite his failing health he still likes to have a chat about football, including how the team are doing now.

Very sad to hear this. Hugh is a real gentleman. Sending my best to him. 

My sincere good wishes to Hugh.  I’ve known him for yonks from the days of Caley and CH Webster’s.   Always a true gentleman, a true football fan and just a lovely man to speak footie with.  X

 

I've heard the unfortunate news that Hugh passed away, I believe yesterday.  Just heard this morning.  Remember him at Telford Street, certainly larger than life.  Condolences to his family.

Highland football has lost another famous son following the passing of former Caledonian Football Club Chairman Hugh Crout.

He joined Caledonian Football Club initially as a committee member in 1970, a period in which David Birrell was club chairman, his second spell in the chair.

Hugh took over the helm at Telford Street in 1973, and would go on to serve the club for a decade, by which time they had amassed a treasure trove of silverware along the way.

A superb ambassador during his tenure with the “Blues” he formed a superb partnership with then Manager, the late great Alex Main, and together they would go on smash records throughout the Highland League.

The silverware haul included: five Highland League Championship titles 1976-77, 1977-78, 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84: Five North of Scotland Cup: 1973-74, 1974-75, 1976-77, 1981-82, 1983-84: Three Scottish Qualifying Cup victories: 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84: Two Highland League Cup successes: 1976-77, 1977-78: Two Inverness Cup victories 1977-78, 1982-83

Hugh was very much a real gentleman and made numerous friends throughout football, a man of integrity, who will be sadly missed.

Hugh was also the same outwith football and always had time for a chat when you met him.  As many have said above  a real Gent.

He sure was.

His funeral service is at 2pm on Monday 14th at WT Fraser's Culduthel then on to the crematorium.
