Alloa (A) Rescheduled

I don’t get to many away games but had a weekend away built round the game at Alloa on the 15th, only to learn now that it’s been moved to the 25th at Alloa’s request due to international call ups.

I’m one unhappy fan tonight!

Two players in the Scotland under 19s. Fair play, that’s good they’ve managed to get a couple in that squad.

And possibly another from Norn Irn. I may be wrong here, but I think they’re actually on loan rather than signed Alloa players.

They do all count though. As they have more than 3 they are entitled to rearrange

Mantis is correct. Stewart and Adamson on loan from the Rangers. Young laddie from my town in the squad too. Josh Landers (18) has just signed a contract with West Ham until 2028. He is a prolific striker with a good level head on his shoulders. Strong, pacy and knows where the onion bag is. They are like hens teeth .....good luck to them all.

PS I can take him on the golf course though!

Whilst it’s frustrating, Alloa are within their rights to get the game rescheduled.

With the number of players involved, it was always going to be granted by the SPFL and our club had no say in the matter.

Obviously if thats the rules they are entitled buf seems to me this needs looked at? Surely shoild apply to the u21 and senior team only?

Nothing against the call up rule, but if you're a part time side then perhaps it's best not to build your team around a bunch of u19 international loan players.

By all means take them on loan but not at the detriment of of having a full playing squad capable of cover.

I mean what if one or three were injured or called back to their parent team??

Playing the system.

He's scored a few goals for the WHU U21s this season, although got injured in one of the previous international breaks. Recently scored against the Swindon first team in a cup game, but the last few matches hes been used from the bench. He is competing for a place with Callum Marshall (full NI international) who is usually on the first team bench, and Josh Ajala who is scoring for fun in the U21s this season.

I think it’s a bit crazy to suggest clubs don’t sign young talented players incase they get called up for International duty. What’s the solution…sign worse players ?

They have been fortunate to have 3-4 players that are good enough for international level and that should be seen as good recruitment, not as playing the system because it’s inconvenient to us.

If it weren't for loans over the last couple of seasons, we might be in League 2 (or worse). Just saying.

I would also venture that the precarious nature of Scottish football outside the top half of the topflight makes it impractical for many teams to put together that "full playing squad" without loans. It gives the clubs some financial respite and the top clubs an outlet for young, talented players to get more game time ... in the same way we loan many of our young guys to the Highland League.

My comment about internationals at the top of the post was a surprise that Alloa had multiple internationals, not of the system itself.
