Defender Required

Somewhere on another thread someone was making the point that our manager should, being a forward, be able to recognise the type of CD we require.

I wonder if he does think this way or with him being a forward, is he concentrating on scoring or scorers.

Our record in the two departments over the past two years should have allowed the Board - with their eyes and brains shut - to recognise our need was in defence and offer all assistance if Brew is blind to this.

06/07 Only 3 teams scored less than us

07/08 Only 3 teams scored MORE than us!

06/07 Only 4 teams had a better defensive record than us

07/08 Only Gretna let more goals in!!

Credit where due, he seems to have got the most out of his forwards - although you would not think it, with all the negative comments on here.

BUT

'The Defence', surely it cannot be just the loss of one player??( I see the goalkeeping area as being quite solid)

Is it possible that his coaching is aimed at the area he is so knowledgable in, at the expence of defensive training OR is that too simplistic?

Surely a problem so large must be the topic at each board meeting and I would like to think that this is now being addressed in the transfer targets?

Planet no, another universe perhaps :rotflmao:

Have we kept a clean sheet at all apart from some of the highland league teams during pre-season?

Thats what worries me also- 6 goals conceded in Denmark. 3 against county and another 2 v St Johnstone.

11 goals against to 12 for. Bit tight is it not?

Get Pressley signed up, i'm sure he won't be looking for massive wages at his age, he will be getting paid well enough by the SFA.

he could do great job for one year, we need a leader at the back.

You lot must be having a feckin laugh.  Compared to Pressley, the likes of Tokely or even ME look like Linford Christie.

His legs have gone, not mobile enough to play in the SPL anymore, signing him would be suicidal.

It is easy to say 'we require a defender' but the knock on effect of NOT having one in place is financially concerning.

Last season Motherwell scored one goal LESS than us and ended up in THIRD place in the league.

Now Scotty/CaleyD will be able, no doubt, to convert this into hard cash i. e. additional cash for each place further up the league you achieve plus all the additional revenue from playing the top teams in the last few games plus the possibility of playing in Europe.

This may seem pie in the sky BUT WE DID SCORE MORE GOALS THAN THEY DID!

I don't subscribe to the 'we're doomed to relegation' nonsense but I do think, to link two threads together, the financial saga re the transfer will be chicken feed, in comparison to our potential loss by ignoring the defensive frailties!!

Absolutely correct.  The knock on effect is costing us money, cup runs etc.  We have known about this for a season and a half yet we are showing no signs of filling the vacancy.  Our defence has let us down badly since Dods left and was the difference between top six or relegation battle.  Another squint at last seasons results show we drew very few games compared to other teams.  Losing games by the odd goal instead of drawing them costing us league places for me was down more to the lack of defence than lack of prowess in front of goal.  We drew four games compared to nine, ten or eleven for the teams around us.

Get a defender in please

i hadnt noticed that, that is truly eye-opening and if Brewster hasn't taken note of this then we are in trouble!

couldnt agree more!

As they say........

"If you don't lose goals then you can't lose games"

Surely to ****, brewster is aware of the deficiencies in the squad. Am assuming that the signings like Zadi are being offered as a resolution to the issues. Lets hope his judgment is more accurate than our concerns turn out to be.

What about getting O'Dea or Cuthbert on loan from Celtic?

Both are relatively tall, in need of regular football and have represented there country in some shape or form.  :tic01:

We tried to get Cuthbert at the end of last season. If we have to spend then we should be looking at paying a bit extra fro a 30 something experienced central defender. Pressley wont come but summat like him.

I keep touting Elvis but its not nessesarily him we need. Just someone in his mould. A leader with composure and perhaps a little heading ability wouldnt go amiss.

I wouldnt say his legs are definitely gone, but he aint match fit. See he's on trial at Nott Forest though i think.

Is there no one in the 1st Division. Surely Clyde, past masters of boring, have a decent defender on the cheap?

SCOTT WILSON :021:

According to a report I read online about Pressley he is not qioite over the hill yet. Just out of shape it seems ...

Not quite what Brew would be looking for eh?

OUt of shape - thats blown that idea then eh :015: Its Blackpool he's at on trial.

Bamba from Dunfermline!!? :024:

bamba is in talks with watford isnt he??

RiG you seem to blow every suggestion i make out the window yet i keep taling about players in talks with championship clubs. Any suggestions?
