On the way home from todays game, a good point for us and an encouraging performance. However... The stewarding seemed very excessive today, for most of the time there was a mixture of over 20 Cops and stewards hanging around the small section, maybe 50/75 younger fans at the back of the stand. At the time I thought the reaction from the stewards was OTT as almost straight from kick off they were in and pulling people out for standing. Having the local polis up and blocking half the stairways didn't help and all in all it just seemed a bit daft. The unfortunate consequence was that the longer the hi viz presence remained, the more the fans played up to it, which didn't help the situation in the least. Just wonder what people thought of it today, whether the Polis/security overreacted and caused the young guys to play up a bit or whether the young guys should have just complied and done as told? For what it's worth, I didn't see anything that was really a problem and still can't understand why the Police were hanging around on the stairways. I'd go as far to say that episodes like today may well explain why a lot of fans are put off from going to games as it seems it is all too often this is how the authorities treat paying customers.6 points

My first post! Used to go to matcheS for a number of years and now able to go to more so will be using this site more often........ I thought the reaction fae the stewards / police was ridiculous... yes the longer the police stood there (blocking peoples views) the more the fans would wind them up...but the police were the ones instigating it. Hibees were standing but nothing was done. The police created the problem and i thought our fans were fantastic.. don't think any one was out of line despite the victimisation from the police... we have the best supports in the SPL in terms of behaviour and lack of sectarian songs. I think the Caley fans should be proud of themselves! Is it worth, as many folk as possible complaining to Lothian and Borders Police?5 points

Hello. I'm an Aberdeen fan, but i've joined this forum as I was stewarding in your end yesterday. If you were there, I was the guy standing outside beside the ticket office at the away end with the envelopes with the comps. This meant I missed the first half and the start of the nonsense that went on. I was in the stand itself from just before half time. From what I gathered, it was the Hibs security who had decided to clamp down on...well, apparently everything. They insisted that everyone HAD to sit down and if they didn't, they had to be ejected. From a personal point of view, I think it was an absolute farce. I've been at away games as a fan and stood the whole time with little hassle (apart from in Dundee for some reason, where they are particularly petty at times). Yesterday was the first time i've seen a club be that heavy handed and OTT about it. Trust me when I say, quite a few of us stewards couldn't believe it either. While technically, yes, it IS against the rules to stand at the footy, there are ways to go about these things and yesterday clearly wasn't it. I will point out that the general guideline is that if the whole stand is standing, they will be left to it (bar ensuring stairways/walkways are kept clear or the odd occasion when they WILL try to make them sit) but if it's just a smaller group, they will be asked to sit. As I say, I missed when the whole thing started (in fact, the first 2 guys that were chucked out asked me where to complain to while I was still outside) but having been asked to watch in the 2nd half, I couldn't believe how badly it'd been handled. Nobody really comes out of this one with any real credit and it's a poor situation. I can say sorry to you, but that is only from myself alas. PS Whoever came up with the Monster's Inc stuff...that was some funny ****3 points

alright there crofters! hope you all got back to your sheep and turnips safe and well, obviously gaining a point would have made the long journey easier and respect to everyone of you who took the time to travel and support your team. in terms of football you got some good players and made some lovely moves at times. obviously hibs are underperforming with a *** for a manager and twatbags like Nish upfront however the reason i chose to post on your board was to apologise for the treatment of your fans by the Edinburgh polis & hibs stewards. we were in the East stand and everyone around us was saying what a fecking joke it was and that it was well out of order. so although it is actually fuckall to do with me personally or any hibs fans, i just wanted you to know we thought it was shocking and you should make a official complaint, it was intimidation by the police and all you's were doing was standing up! ffs anyway hope you get relegated cause i hate having to travel away up there ;) later teuchters2 points

Would never happen, then we'd have noone there to support the team and create an atmosphere. Maybe consider it if we were already a couple of goals up, but yesterday at 1-0 down the team needed us to get behind them. Johndo was down trying to reason with stewards at HT, who then decided he had been inciting others to stand up. Despite him turning round and telling folk to sit down all the time. Okay so it may have been sarcastic, but still there was absolutely no need for throwing him out. Numerous other lads were chucked out throughout the game aswell, just for standing. It was a complete and utter joke, and I made a point of making sure they knew about it, along with a couple of others who went ot try and have a word with them during the 2nd half. To which the responses I got were: Do you want to be the next? And It's were job. Complete and utter jobsworths, who ruined an otherwise brilliant away day.2 points

Cheers L_G. Like I said in the post though, I don't believe individual complaints accomplish anything in these scenarios so I haven't bothered writing to Hibs. I wasn't ejected but I was threatened with arrest after our goal as I bumped into one of the Coppers who had filled the stairwell opposite us. Incredible... When I pointed out he was in a position he shouldn't really be in, that their being there surely contravened H&S and that I was quite sure celebrating a goal still wasn't a criminal offence, he backed down and ignored me for what was left of the match. I'm someone who tends to support the Police in a lot of situations as I can appreciate that they have an impossible task a lot of the time, but yesterdays performance really was indefensible stupidity and rule no.1 in how to create a situation from nothing.1 point

...that is worrying! I agree 100% by the way but if dedicated fans like you are switching off then we're on a slide. The stewards, and to an extent, the polis approach to the ICT travelling support is well-documented of course. We're a smaller bunch (pound for pound probably noisier!!) and, not coming from the big rough sweary sectarian cities, we're easy game for the power-confused. Give a man a high-viz uniform and watch the true character surface. But Gringo, my advice (like you asked for it!) is to look at it like the weather, it pisses (nowt I can do about it), it's bollock-freezing (nowt I can do about it), the referee is a tool (nowt I can do about it)...the stewards? (nowt I can do about it). But the sheer thrill of seeing our lads give these knobend clubs a game absolutely rides roughshod over the many drawbacks. The sensible post-match DU fans and a Hibee father overheard yesterday saying "that's a tough side to break down" to his son as we walked back to the car...that's the reason, that's the choice you make! Don't give up please. The Gringo clan would be badly missed. By the way, I'm commuting from Rotterdam...your move! :biggrin:1 point

Unbelievable. Still cant quite believe the stewarding yesterday. The woman steward with the glasses was just a jumped up little jobsworth in my opinion. She told the lads along from me that if they answered her back in anyway ie asked for clarification they would be ejected. I thought we lived in a free country. Then on her way back along the line she told highlandexile to "let her past" even though she had just told everyone to sit down. So we all have to stand up and let her past but not at any other times. by the second half the steward at the end of my row looked about 15 and couldnt even say bo to a goose. As for the catcalling at the stewards well by that time it was no more than they deserved. no fun anymore in football and wont be in a hurry to pay Hibs FC ?46 for the "pleasure" of being treated like something on someones shoe. good on the Hibs fans for sticking up for us nice one lads!1 point

A word to the wise, the police have a team of officers dedicated to football hooliganism and that post will now be flagged. A chance to justify some more overtime for fellow officers? Just sit down and shut up. You're there to watch the football not create an atmosphere.1 point

What was being sung by our fans that was offensive? "HIV capital" could be taken offensively. Hmm, fair point actually. It's more a cheeky wee jibe at Edinburgh being the Gay Capital in the country and HIV being associated with homosexuality. I suppose some people could find offence in it though, but that would mean they're gay themselves surely.. Most of it's just cheeky wee digs though, it's not as if many of us take offense when labelled Sheep Sh*ggers by opposing fans. I hear you. BUT We are not sheep shaggers its funny cause its not true. But edinburger fans do have aids. Offensive1 point

Wasn't so confident that Riordan would miss, but thought Rooney would definitely score. What a relief it was to see the Hibs pen rattle the inside of the post and across the goal, we were lucky yesterday. No doubt about it.1 point

Thanks for that. From a selfish point of view i really hope you's stay up cos its a guaranteed 9 or 10 points for us each season. All the best1 point

The stewarding and policing today was an utter joke. I'm sure there was 7 or 8 separate ejections, the first after no more than 5 minutes. A few folk tend to play up for effect but the reaction from the forces of order today was way over the top. We're paying £22 each to be entertained and these jumped up muppets behave like we're some sort of sub-species to be spoken to like schoolchidren. If they tried this on with the old firm there would have been a riot, of that there can be no doubt. It's time the club addressed this issue with the likes of Hibs and United. At the end of the day can the SPL afford to repeatedly treat their ever shrinking customer base in this manner?1 point

Hibs were worth being 1-up at half time. They stroked the ball around nicely, had many more options than us, and had an impact player who does what impact players do best. We competed, no mistake, Johnny and Eric doing their best but the former was often double or treble marked and really never got into his stride. Adam was neatly folded up in Bamba's back pocket for the firtst 45. Bambi looks more and more comfortable every time I see him. Second half hinged, in my opinion, on Rooney's shot off the woodwork. From then on Hibs didn't look so assured, we had more possession and the chances started coming thick n fast at both ends. To be fair to the Hibees they threw it away in the end. I think most of us were happy with the point after an entertaining 2nd half. The new stand is real bonny...it's a good looking stadium now. Can't be arsed commenting on the police and stewards situation, just tiresome!1 point

From todays Scotsman: EDINBURGH PREPARES FOR A HIGHLAND INVASION BY EWEN "SQUIRREL" MCMURRAY Lothian and Borders Police have today announced that the force will be cancelling all leaves for Saturday 11th September 2010, as Leith prepares itself in readiness for a potential human hurricane. The National Criminal Intelligence Unit (NCIU) has received reliable information which suggests that two of the most notorious football "firms" in Scotland are planning to stage a full membership "union" - called the Gathering - at the Hibernian versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle SPL league game. The two firms - "The Mob" and "The Sesh Army" have been rumoured to have been in the throes of amalgamation for several months, and Police Surveillance Units have noted that there has been an increasing mingling of the two factions at recent ICT away fixtures. Bob Plod of the NCIU stated that "There has been evident increasing activity at many of the recent ICT matches where incidents have been monitored, reprted and observed - A fun loving Greenpeace Steward was jostled, hustled and abused at Greenock; a faction of the ICT support stood and chanted incessantly at Dumfries, the frivolity and pitch invasions carried out in Ayr were reminiscent of Wembley 1977 and there were mass expulsions from Tannadice where a steward was rushed to hospital with a scratched tupperware box." PC Plod advised members of the public to avoid direct confrontation but reassured them that many of the potential noise makers were fairly easily recognised - half of them are bald and fat and the others are young and trendy. Their apparent battle cry is "Stand Up For The Caley Jags" and the noise levels and atmospheric problems appear to increase when they perform their War dance or "Haka" which has the curious tradition of taking off one of their shoes and waving it in the air. Meanwhile the Leith Central Community Council met urgently yesterday. They are arranging for all local residents to be issued with free ear plugs and are in the process of soundproofing the local Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street where residents can gather as a "place of safety" on the day. It is also rumoured that the Council will be employing observers from the Noise Abatement Society who will be on the streets with Analogue Sound Level Meters. Lothian and Borders Police have also reassured the council that spot checks for megaphones and loud voices will be randomly carried out. The only local business that would appear to be opening its doors to the Highland Hurricane is the Iona Bar. Its owner Harry, who also runs the Ship Inn in Ayr, told us " There have never been any incidents in here before. We tape up the windows, use plastic glasses and most of the regulars are tone deaf anyway. I will be only too happy to allow any highlander to lubricate their tonsils pre match. Local Inverness historian, Ian Broadfoot, informed us that the Gathering was not a surprise to him but was probably an event that was always going to occur. He felt that "It is a natural progression, the marriage between the days of yore and the vivality of the present and the future" "The Mob are a post merger amalgamation of the "Caley Animals" and the "Heathmount Back Bar Brigade". They are all now mature and wise individuals in their thirties, forties and fifties. Whereas the "Sesh army" have grown over the last few years and are the future of ICT - a bit of a Fan Academy really. Some say it is a bit like a Robbie and Gary reunion but I would liken it more to a meeting between Johnny Rotten and Amy Winehouse. Reprentatives of the Mob and the Sesh Army were unavailable but we met with an AndyM of the "Real ICT Sweet Rustling and Gurning Society" who stated that " My fellow sweetie rustlers and I will be monitoring the situation and will be advocating that the throng are moved en masse if they make too much noise, preferably to Tynecastle." The final word laid with David Sutherland on behalf of the ICT Board. He assured all concerned that " We are appalled by these rumours and wish to distance ourselves from any support and/or encouragement. We have always done our uptmost to prevent an atmosphere at any of our games. It is not in the best interets of ICT to allow laughing, smiling, singing, standing and camaraderie to seep back in to the stands - we have a repuation to uphold and the TCS is a glowing example.1 point

Is it worth wondering if Johndo's green dot record breaking post may have drawn the attention of football "intelligence" police unit and that they would have been wary about not being seen to do something? What happened the last time there was a suggestion of trouble at TCS? As I recall there was an increased police presence.-1 points

In all fairness, was this not a reaction to a quite insulting (albeit a little amusing) chant at the steward who was slightly, er... rotund? I would agree that although it's a little frustrating to see the other set of supporters standing without apparent intervention from stewards, rules are rules. If you're told to sit down, just bloody sit down mun, make the most of your entrance fee by watching the game rather than winding up the fluorescent men.-1 points

How on Earth is being on the bench going to help him improve? obviously him starting he will improve quicker but i dont think he is as good as pedz or duff so he would come on as a sub rather than sitting on the bench the whole game DC- pedz is duncan-1 points

Its fukin hilarious! The amount of abuse we took from overzealous policing, yet I can still smoke 3 ciggys at the game and no one noticed. Do your job! Im delighted to see the fans had made a point of contacting the club. This really needs to be curbed. As they said....... wtf are the young team??? really WTF are they going to do! What? Shout and sing and provide the only thing I enjoy about watching absolute mince. Im going to Grahams right now to buy some flares and lets really give them something to complain about! Ill enjoy a night in the hamilton cells!-1 points
