  1. To be fair, that was the biggest game in Elgin's history since coming into the league and we had nothing to gain and everything to lose today. Really was a very odd experience being the 'big team' and was even a bit jealous of the big day out mentality of the Elgin fans. At least a 1,000 of them and they were noisy throughout the game, just like our away Cup games were when we were in the lower leagues. Their keeper had 3 cracking stops, 2 with his feet, and Jamie Duff cleared one of the line which appeared to defy the laws of physics from where we were. On another day it could have been 4 or 5 nil comfortably. The final result was maybe harsh on Elgin given the effort they put in, a replay would probably have been a just reward, but the better and more dominant team won.

  2. I admire the confidence of the Elgin fans posting on this thread........but clearly they have lost their marbles.

  3. Nigel, Many of our fans who live in Inverness are ordinary working class people with families, rent / mortgage and all the other bills to pay. Many of them take loans or payment terms to purchase a season tickets They dont normally have travel costs to get to the game so, if they have the day free, will make it along at little further cost. Others have the cost of taking family etc. This all adds up to a lot of outlay in a season. Should they really be expected to, or seen as less loyal if they dont, travel to away games the shortest of which is a 240 mile round trip. Many of our away support live south of Perth. They are the same working class people as those described above. They may not have season tickets, though I know a few that do, but they will likely have shelled out in other ways to help fund the team. Are they disloyal if they cant make the 240 mile plus round trip to see a home game? I attend whatever I can whenever I can simply because its a hobby for me and I can afford the outlay. Twelve years ago I could only see ICT if they played at Brockville. Anyone with a bit of intelligence would not be questioning the loyalty of supporters whatever games they choose to attend. If you fancy taking some time out to read the many previous threads on this very subject you'll find that nobody, not even a few past managers, are able to explain this one. Personally I dont think it has anything to do with home or away support but more to do with us not being able to use the advantage of our own pitch. Ours is too wide.

  4. The home support gets a lot of stick for being quiet, but I don't think anyone could accuse it of disloyalty - in terms of numbers it held up far better last season than the supports of some relegated clubs have done (Livingston being a case in point). It's basically a case of location for most - I make a point of going to every away game now that I no longer work on Saturdays, unless it's Aberdeen midweek, but only make 4-5 home games per season. Many of the guys I travel with are in the same sort of situation. The guys I probably admire the most are those I see at nearly every away game, who I know travel from Inverness and also attend the home games - a lot of them are from the younger end of our support too, which is really encouraging for the future - and there are also the likes of Top Six Next Year, who make all the away games and also keep a season tcket and travel north frequently. For a lot of people, though, it just isn't possible, financially or timewise or workwise, to make every game home and away: degrees of loyalty don't come into it.

  5. I hope the lad plays well today, i have heard nothing but praise from one of my mates who goes to watch them. He had great promise until he got injured so maybe he will give Tel food for thought with a good display today. The defence ain't getting any younger and i personally feel he could go onto be a club legend. We need more local boys coming through!!

  6. Glad to be through, it was painful viewing at times plus points - stopping the losing run rooney back in the goals sanchez' great finish shinnie overlapping very well on the wing sutherland looking dangerous when he came on minus points - profligacy in front of the goal scrappy passing hoofball too often duffs corners odhiambo had the close control of an elephant today

  8. I think I could have kissed Dani Boi :love03: was relieved to see him scoring and I agree with Butcher saying that Sanchez was like a new signing would love to see him playing a lot more as he changed the play I would also like to see a lot more from Sutherland as well!

  10. Can we now, please, see Sanchez getting more game time? I know it's only Elgin, but that is the second time this season he has come on and made the decisive difference.

  11. Everyone on here has made the fine choice of supporting ICT, it's not them you should be getting onto but the people that get in buses every weeekend to go down to Ibrox/Parkhead from Inverness and all over the Highlands.

  12. what would we do without timmy cumming and the other groundstaff that can keep a football ground in as good a cocndition as ours half a season in with there having been alll kinds of weather, my hats off for him

  14. True loyalty to me is going home and away and following no matter where, why and irrespective of the outcome. Peeple can follow loyaly from all over the Globe - Scotty and Gabby get up at all hours to follow My view in regard to ICT is that I will be as loyal as I can be and follow whenever I can. "If ICT lives to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.?

  16. Are you not confusing the stadium with your bedroom Move back to Muirton Park, sign Alex Rennie and Ally McCoist. Watch the crowds rocket.

  17. Obvious from 15 minutes in that there was only going to be one winner in this. It's difficult to play that "killer" pass when a highly motivated opposition sit in banks of four and look to break. It is, after all, exactly what we base our away games on. We do cry out for a creative midfielder, and IMHO sanchez did more in his 15 minutes or so than eric did in the preceding 75. Just shows what Rooney does when he gets service. It might not work every time, but it did today. Elgin defended superbly and their goalie had one immense ryanesque save from sutherland late on - well done to them, and an absolute hats off to their support. Lots of moans today that we should have won this earlier and easier, but TBH that smacks of arrogance, especially when you consider Hibs, St Mirren and the arabs. Next round, nae replay, job done.Jay 7 what planet are you on?

  19. An absolutely disgusting performance from us. Fair play to Sanchez for coming on and giving us that creative spark that we'd been missing all game. A win is a win, but there is absolutely no excuse for the first 89mins.

  23. Caley got crowds in excess of 5000 for every Saturday home game in the late 50's , have a look at the books on old Inverness for photos and you wont see many wifies at the games like you do nowadays

  24. If there was to be an SPL 1 & 2 both with 10 teams all with equal voting rights, then I can see a couple of seasons with the two leagues being a bearable sacrifice if it was followed by a vote by the provincial teams (assuming 19 votes wasn't the requirement) to merge the two into a league of 20.

  25. Almost feel sorry for Elgin not getting a replay. Sounds like the pressure paid off at the death.

  26. Would most people agree that any fan who attends at least a few away (2+ matches) a season is more loyal than a season ticket holder who refuses to attend any away matches ? My wife & I have been to a few home & away & I am unable to persuade (as if we should have to) any of the season ticket holders I have spoken met to come to even one away match. We always have more fun at away matches, have never had any trouble & if finances & work would allow we would attend more.

  27. In a time when Highland council is to cut 70-80 teaching posts through the region, i was annoyed to read that Highland Council Taxpayers have been footing the bill of sending 27 pupils to the Gaelic School via taxi. This has cost £120 000. The Council has been paying for pupils from as far afield as Black Isle to get to and fro the school. Now...why is it, when the rest of the country suffers cuts, the Gaelic self preservation society contiinues to get money thrown at it left right and centre? If parents want to send their children to schools, they should cover the bill of getting the kids there! The langauage is dying on its arse...thats a fact....talk about flogging a dead horse!
