In my opinion, now that it looks like ICT won't get a top six spot this season, it's time to look at what's needed for next season. For me - Goalkeepers Ryan Esson Johnny Tuffey Max Johnson I think I'm right in saying that both Esson and Tuffey are signed up for next season. Obviously these are two class goalkeepers, so there is no real need in bringing another challenger for the number 1 jersey in. I'm not sure what the circumstances are with Max Johnson but he's still a fairly young and up and coming keeper. IIRC he may well be only signed up for this season but it be worth retaining him for another year and he also has experience to a certain level in playing a part in the Newcastle United reserve team. Renegade's Verdict - No need for any new personnel, unless one of the three leaves. Defenders Ross Tokely (Right Back, Centre Back, occasional Left Back, occasional Right Midfielder + often used as a target man striker when goal is needed with time running out) Kenny Gillet (Left Back, can be used at Left Midfield and can play at Centre Back) Grant Munro (Centre Back, occasional Left Back) Graeme Shinnie (Left Back, can also play at left midfield) Chris Hogg (Centre Back, but can play at Right Back) Chris Innes (Centre Back) David Proctor (Right Back, Centre Back, Right Midfield, Central Midfield, occasional Left Back) Stuart Duff (Right Back, Central Midfield, occasional Left Back) Stuart Golabek (Left Back, has been known to play at Centre Back and even more occasionally at Left Midfield) NB - Ross Tokely signed a one year deal at the start of this season, but has the option to sign for another one. On the whole, a feel that Innes offers little in any capacity for the team and him leaving would not be a big loss. Golabek may be old but he may offer some experience and cover for certain areas. I feel that Hogg is a good defender and I'd like to see him stay put. Duff, I'm a little unsure about but perhaps does offer cover in a number of different places. Renegade's Verdict - Punt Chris Innes. Try and bring in perhaps one more centre half, preferably one that has a great deal of height to challenge for a first team spot. Midfielders Lee Cox (Central Midfield, can also play at Right Back) Russell Duncan (Central Midfield, has been known to occasionally fill in at Right Back) Eric Odhiambo (Striker, Right Wing, Left Wing, Attacking Midfield) Roy McBain (Central Midfield, Left Back, Left Midfield) Gavin Morrison (Central Midfield, Left Midfield) Gil Blumenshtein (Central Midfield, Attacking Midfield, Left Wing, Right Wing, Striker) Nick Ross (Central Midfield, Attacking Midfield, Left Wing, Right Wing) Johnny Hayes (Left Wing, Right Wing) Blumenshtein has been either constantly injured or deemed not good so should not be retained. I feel that despite his bright start to the season, Odhiambo offers little to anything to the ICT squad. He may be quick but he has no first touch, no cross and not much else. His effort levels have also come in to question at times. McBain, like Golabek may be old, but I feel that he may still be able to provide a significant amount of cover and experience for the team. Renegade's Verdict - Punt Odhaimbo and Blumenshtein. Possibly retain McBain. I feel that ICT should look for perhaps one more winger and a good ball playing central midfielder for next season. Strikers Adam Rooney (Striker) Richie Foran (captain) (Striker, Left Wing) Shane Sutherland (Striker, Left Wing, Right Wing) Dani Sanchez (Striker, Attacking Midfield, Left Wing, Right Wing) Obviously retaining Rooney is a big issue and if he is to go and strong goal scoring striker is desperately needed. I'd also look at keeping Dani Sanchez. Renegade's Verdict - Try and retain all current strikers, but even if Rooney is to go, I'd still likely to see another one being brought in. Preferably someone of a Craig Dargo esque physique. End of Loan Aaron Doran Alex MacDonald Renegade's Verdict - I wouldn't complain if either of these two were brought back for next season. Name in: Red is signed up for next season Green is not signed up for next season but efforts should be made to keep them Blue is not signed up for next season and should not be retained Pink is not signed up for next season but should perhaps be retained So what's needed? IMO another striker (maybe two), a big centre half, a central midfielder and probably another fast winger is what's needed for ICT to have a good squad for next season. While I can't think of many names right now, the only one I definitely keen to bring in would be Gregory Tade, as he cover a number of positions and offers a bit of bulk and speed, a combination of two in one is not something that is currently present in the ICT team. Whether he'd come or not is another issue, especially with Raith being in with a chance of promotion. What are your thoughts on what is needed for next season?

I know Terry & Mo have another season on their contract, but I'd like to see an extension for them coming at the end of the season. Think that kind of stability (or as stable as it gets in football) might help persuade players to move/commit to ICT over the summer.

Thoughtful post from Renegade, who has put a lot of effort and thought into that - whilst I don't agree with all of it he makes a good argument for his point of view. I bet I'm in the minority, but I think Duff is a decent player to have; in fact I think he's the best right back we have in the squad now Rossco's lost a yard of pace. I have nothing against Proctor either, though as they offer a similar degree of versatility I suspect we might only choose to keep one of them. For me, Innes, Golly and McBain do not offer enough even for a place on the bench in the SPL. Blumenshtein hasn't been fit enough to justify another chance. These four surely have no future. Odhiambo, after a bright start to the season, has been utter guff since October, though at 21 he might be worth holding onto for another year. I'm quite up for re-signing everyone else. I'd definitely have Doran and MacDonald back if the opportunity was available. What do we need? I think Kencar has identified our needs correctly. In particular I would say a target man striker would offer us something different.

So what if there wasn't as much money. If more expensive players are your biggest concern, then support the richest clubs. What money do Morton, Stirling Albion etc etc have? there may be a reduced class of player - but for most clubs I don't think we'd notice much. One thing that would change, the league would be more competitive. I think that would be more fun. Don't much care about the cash.

The OF aren't the financial lifeblood that they are portrayed to be. Much of the additional income from increased crowds they bring to games is lost in the need for additional stewarding, police etc....plus it's been a while since they actually sold out their entire allocation anyway. TV interest/income without the OF? Since they take the lions share of that income anyway, we could afford to a sizeable drop in what TV companies pay for the rights before it starts impacting on the income of the other 10 clubs, so this argument is a bit of a red herring. Many of the rules/regulations and many of the issues in the way the game is run to protect the top teams would be lost. The vast majority of the bad press we get from the sectarian issues would disappear. The league would be more competitive/interesting and as a result would attract more spectators. You wouldn't have the OF influence being pressed on the younger generations across Scotland which would lead to more kids growing up to follow their local teams. The rest of Scottish football would be allowed to breathe and that could only be good for the game in the long term.

Not really, GK is a key position and one that cannot be filled and covered up with a lesser player unlike some outfield positions or have the formation or type of play adjusted to compensate. If Esson gets injured or looses form etc we need someone experienced and capable to step in. Simply if we let Tuffey go (for a nominal fee) then Esson picks up an injury early in the season we will not have anyone capable til the Jan window when we will need to get a loan etc. Some may say having 2 quality keepers is a luxury, at this level its got to be a necessity.

Otherwise you could wait til next year and get the r*ss c*nty 2nd division play off runners up mug?

Did anyone see the slimy creep Doncaster during the Saint Johnstone v Rangers game last night? He was trying to spin some stats that apparently showed that the majority of Scottish football fans were keen for the 10 team set up. He appeared to seize upon the fact that in a recent poll 2% of fans wanted the set up to stay as it is claiming this was sure fire proof that a move to a 10 team top division is what the majority wanted clearly overlooking the fact that whilst 98% of fans polled wanted change the exact change that they asked for wasn't mentioned. Horrible person.

This is ridiculous...what kind of democratic system allows the delay of a vote because someone knows they aren't going to get the outcome they want? The longer it drags on the more time and money is being wasted on plans and proposals that don't meet the desires of the people. Get the vote over with, scrap the bollocks you've put on the table, resign if you don't like it and allow someone else take over and do the job properly. On the face of it, yes, most of that would make sense....but when you start to peel back the spin and look at each of the proposals in more depth you find they are fundamentally flawed and, IMO, many of them would never come to fruition and are only now being put out there so that if (when) the plans for a 10 team SPL are rejected (if we ever get round to seeing a vote on it) then Doncaster and his cronies can say "look at all these good things we were going to do and you voted against them"....much the same as what happens with lobbying and manifestos etc in the lead up to a General Election. Why must Doncaster play the "all or nothing" card? Why can't things like redistribution of money within the SPL, relaxing stadium criteria, creation of additional relegation/promotion place, obligations towards youth initiatives and the early start/winter break all be introduced without the changes to the league size? No reason I can think of, other than using them to bribe clubs into accepting the 10 team top league and allowing the SPL the remit to take control over the whole game in this country. They can't look after the 12 teams they have already, heaven knows what kind of shambles we'd end up with if they were looking after another 30 teams.

So ICT agreed to delay, Celtic agreed to delay, and even ESPN have kind of admitted that whilst not ideal they would not have been averse to a delay even though it would mean the match probably couldnt go out live ..... yet some dickhead penpusher at Hampden with no authority to make a real decision quotes the 15 minute rule as a reason for inconveniencing everyone, and lets the referee shoulder the responsibility of actually postponing the game when a simple bit of common sense might have allowed travelling fans (of both teams not just Celtic) to complete their journey and see a game they set out early in the morning to watch ! What a wunch of bankers ! Had anyone at the SPL been willing to listen to the case being put to them they would have been aware that the police DID have concerns over this and would far rather have had the game delayed than called off. As a result of the call of they ended up with a situation whereby large numbers of travelling supporters landed up in Pitlochry while they awaited trains back home and Pitlochry were simply not prepared for the influx. Police would rather have had them complete the journey and spend an extra hour in Inverness as they were at least prepared for it. ESPN weren't happy, but they would rather have had only an hour or so to fill and shown as much of the game as the could than not show the game and have to fill the entire slot. A very strange rule that says you can postpone a game without sanction but delay it by more than 15 minutes on the day and we will fine you!!! I also find it hard to believe that, in the grand financial scheme of things, had ICT been told it will cost you ?5000 to delay or a larger chunk of revenue to postpone that they would have chosen the postponement. I very much doubt they were given the option. Can the SPL become any more of a laughing stock with it's ridiculous and petty rules and operation? I'd put good money on the answer to this being a big fat yes!

Statement from George HERE The future of Scottish football has to involve the people that pay through the gates and its high time the powerbrokers realised that. They also need to realise that without all the other clubs there would be no Celtic or Rangers. Those people are supposed to be developing the game not ensuring the OF stay top of the league and ultimately in European competition. Every team should get a sensible share of the pot and every team should have to operate within their means and without debt. Let the league expand and let every club have a fair chance to win it.

I would say keep everyone apart from Eric, even though he smiles a lot. Duff gets a hard time because he's Ginger and, if we got rid of Proctor, then we get rid of the Proc's patter from the match day programs. It's not all about the football. We will need another striker, a two footed winger that tracks back, and a creative midfielder. Maybe a target man as well. Easy Peasy.

ICT v dons naw your'e just being daft, where would the money come from to bring in new players? cause the tv companies would'nt pay to watch that kind of football I can think for myself, you on the other hand.....
