  1. So it's ok for Celtic to allow attendances to plummet so long as their fans are watching on TV, and they can do that without expecting to take responsibility for the games decline???.....give me a break. It's apologist, defeatist excuses like that which allow them to ride roughshod all over the rest of the league. In regards TV viewing/income, the SPL gets ?13 Million a year from Sky/ESPN deal. Viewing figures for last season were 9.7 Million. That's ?1.34 per person per game viewed. So, in effect 1 fan in attendance is worth about 15 viewers. Celtic attendances are down 181,328, so unless they've added 2,719,920 to TV viewing figures in the last 10 years, their overall contribution is still very much a negative one. No matter how you want to try and split hairs, there's no basis in fact (or figures) to justify them continuing to command the share of income that they do...regardless of it's source. I'm not suggesting they don't get a proportionate share of income, I'm saying that the proportions have changed and that needs to be reflected in how cash is divided.

  5. Yes lets give all the kids all the seats at cheap prices then there wont be any for adults and eventually no club. There is, of course, another option. Buy the child a season ticket for the main stand then he or she is only paying approx ?8 per game. The other thing that should be bourne in mind is the the club and the supporters trust ensure that many children get to enjoy the game free of charge. Our prices are much the same as all the other clubs for away fans. At any game not involving the OF we charge ?16 for over twelves and ?10 for under. The pricing for OF fans reflects the fact that we could probably fill the away stand with full price adults. At least the ten clubs who are not from Glasgow have lower prices when playing each other unlike the Weegie two who charge very high prices for all games.

  6. Please don't stop posting and expressing your views. A forum like this is good to read because people do hold different views and it is good to debate the various issues. There are times when sincerely held views are seen as silly or naive by others and the response is a bit more flippant than you would like and there is some gentle micky taking - hopefully nobody has gone beyond that and been offensive on this thread but that may be a matter of opinion. A forum needs people who are prepared to say what they think and who don't mind when people reply in ways you might not expect. Take Dougal for instance, he has taken more stick than anyone (often unfairly IMHO) but it doesn't stop him making further contributions. To what extent he believes all he writes I neither know nor care. All I know is that this forum would be a poorer place without him. In this case, you are on the receiving end because you have come across as very indignant about something others see as a non issue. I happen to agree that it would be nice if the youngsters wrote a letter but in no way is it bad that they don't. In fact, there is more reason for the youngsters to write a note of thanks to the club for the opportunity they have been given and I wonder how many do that! The club will have helped to make each and every youngster that does not make the grade a better player. What they learn at the club will help them to play at a better standard and enjoy their football more whether it be with a lower league club or just a local Sunday side. I don't think the club has any more obligation to them. I think that is why people felt your earnest sense of injustice was totally OTT and why responses were the way they were. Don't take offence. Keep posting and and give as good as you get. And here's me setting myself up. You probably don't mean a word you say and your real response is summarised by your .

  7. I wouldn't advocate national service as a means to gain numbers to send to war zones. I would, however, advocate the use of the expertise of those within the services to instill respect and discipline, using the same methods and paying the same monies as they do with volunteers. Basically make it compulsory for all those who commit crimes at a young age, truant or dont go on to further education or apprenticeships to attend a military style boot camp for six months. They'd be paid some pocket money and have bed and board for the period. They wouldn't have access to lifes luxuries but they'd learn how hard it is to afford such luxuries and that nobody has a right to just take what they cant afford. Sentecing is a total joke in this country. Community service is not completed because local authorities haven't the funds to provide the required supervision for the convicted persons. We walk and drive around all over the place and see many instances where things could be improved using those convicts but alas there are no funds. Jail is a total joke and likened more to a holiday camp. Fines are too small and probably cost as much to collect. When I was growing up we were all scared of the local bobby. Nowadays the local bobby is scared of the youths.

  8. I'm assuming this is a lad who started at a very young age and not someone who was on a trainee contract. There are many children involved in any football clubs coaching systems. They are given coaching and encouragement throughout their spell of involvement. Some make it to their age group teams and some dont. Those who dont still have the chance to come along and train with the rest and to learn about the game. Of all the hundreds of children who do come through to the more senior levels only a select few will make the grade and become apprentices. And of those only a few will end up with professional contracts. The football clubs provide the facilities and the staff. They do a fantastic job training, coaching and getting teams playing in competitions all over the place. All this takes hard work and dedication and a fair amount of free time spent on the road. Personally, if it was my child, I'd be happy that he or she had the chance of the experience and even happier that he or she was told of their worth face to face and not by any other means.

  10. I agree, living in Paisley means whenever I want to go to a local match for the old firm I need to buy my tickets through the phone in inverness. They then add an extra ?2.50 onto what is already a huge price. That is very frustrating. ?20 for a child in our away end? That's even more ridiculous! I got into east end park for ?10 on Saturday. A very reasonable price for a concession.

May I offer my humble apologies to all those I have offended by voicing such ridiculous opinions - you can rest assured I will try my very best not to do so again and I promise to continue to read some of the amazing drivel posted elsewhere on this site by those with greater expertise than I?? I agree this would have been a far more accurate headline but lets face it journalists are good at twisting headlines From what I hear you weren't too bad at it yourself specifically at the time of the merger dougal Are you SURE you're not Buenos in disguise? As it happens the newspaper as opposed to broadcast coverage I did of the merger was relatively limited and in any case, not being a sub editor whose job it is to write headlines, I've never written one for real in my life!

  15. I've been reading Pie & Bovril tonight and the Orcs are livid about the cost of concession tickets for the game on Saturday I've got to admit they do appear hugely excessive, surely the club should be reducing the costs of concession tickets as these are the fans of the future ?25 for a child to sit in the main stand is an absolute disgrace in my book http://ictfc.com/tickets/ticket-prices discuss dougal
