  1. And heres to you Russell Latapy Caley loves you more than you will know Wooooaaaoowwww 'Taken from Simon and Garfunkels, Mrs Robinson'
  2. It's positivity such as this that adds real value to every conversation on this forum at the moment.
  3. No sympathy at all from me they made signings last year when they could not pay their players on time!
  4. Pre-season tour of the Caribbean?
  5. Tough on the current regime and the young squad but they broke the rules systematically for a long time. The punishment fits the crime and nothing has changed since it was imposed. I bet their current wage bill is still bigger than ours.
  6. Hearts are desperately trying to sign players in the window - should they be allowed to do so? I have the greatest sympathy for the current players at Hearts and I don't want to see them relegated, but I'm afraid they have to pay the penalty. Fresh in my mind is the debacle last year when they were allowed to make loan signings: Michael Ngoo came in and scored the goal that ultimately put us out of the semi-final. Fair? No chance....but I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens again.....
  7. I suspect you'll be reviving this smiley then And oh look, there's one for Hughes too:
  8. I remember a night with Brewster playing for us and Latapy for Falkirk in Inverness several years ago. We were hammered 1-4 (I think) on a horrible cold dark wet night with Latapy so outstanding considering the conditions. I remember it well as I was sitting in the front row of North stand soaked and depressed but being impressed with Russell Latapy.
  9. Terrific move. He brings a wealth of experience as well as a history of being a quality player back in his day. He could certainly help most of our midfielders raise the game with what he knows. Could prove to be a very shrewd move from Yogi.
  10. An interesting appointment that has potential. Certainly more inspiring than Brian Rice.
  11. I really have to respect a dude who has been stoned more than I could ever dream of.

Definitely, OR Motherwell or Inverness Caley Thistle
  13. Good chance we will see him at the TCS on Sunday. Unfortunately, not for us. We should have got him or Lyle Taylor.

Uncle Roy is obviously stumping up the £££...it will all end in tears at some point.
  15. I feel sorry fer Mrs Raven as it would appear that she has been in labour fer almost two months. Otherwise I would go with fraser except that I would be tempted to put Christie up front in a 4-4-2 and keep Ross on the bench as he gives lots of options from there if necessitated.

Can't agree with that. It is after all only a handful of players from the 50s and 60s who are talked about as "greats". The 3 exceptional players Dougal mentions undoubtedly bear comparison to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi in the modern game but bear in mind we are not comparing like with like as the nature of the game and the level of media exposure is so different now. Eusebio, Puskas and Pele played in a much harder era. Pitches were much more uneven and referees did not afford the kind of protection flair players receive these days. Flair players were targets for the defensive hard men who not only tackled hard but who routinely kicked and dead-legged opponents off the ball. They got away with that because there were few games being televised and even when they were, there might only be one or two cameras following the ball. It was only exceptional players with a mental and/or physical toughness to go with exceptional ball skills that came through these handicaps to shine. Remember also that the limited TV coverage of matches means that only a fraction of what these players did on the park is recorded and therefore it sometimes gives the impression that their fame is based on just 2 or 3 outstanding performances. Make no mistake, the 3 players Dougal identifies were exceptional players in their day and would have been exceptional players in any era.
