  1. Is your semi a Hemi?
  2. What surprises me , Scotty, is that no other poster seems to be willing to reply or post on this issue. Are we all luving in a friendly cocoon of comparitive complacency or what? Supposedly one of the smartest mammals on the planet the dolphin is not alone in being pursued relentlessly by the insane desire of multi national companies, and others,to reap very large sums of money. The thought of conservation, apparently, is the last thing that these entities think of and they appear desperate, at any cost, to get their share prior to the extinction of the pecies. However, some of the fishing practices around the world leave me bereft of speech in view of their cruelty from us, Man, a supposedly more highly-developed species than any other.Yet, as it has proved one of the most vicious, underdeveloped and cruel species on the planet, if not the galaxy. I have not seen this movie documentary but have seen plenty of bloody action relating to the killing of animals. supposedly for food for Man. Witness.... The practice of dragging sharks on board huge processing vessels by dragging the floor of the ocean with massive nets is rampant. These nets , of course, trap all kinds of other fish in them, thus systematically and regularly denuding the ocean of its life and entirely breaking down the delicate environmental balance of the aquatic systems. These fish are frequently caught, like the tuna and dolphins , in the rollers which bring in the fish and one can only surmise at the agony which they endure in the process. Then the sharks are brutally injured by cutting off their fins , and often their tails, with razor sharp fledging devices ( no anaesthetic here girls and boys ...just ...tally -ho, yoiks and have at it) so that the prized fins can be made into soup or whatever . The remainder of their still-alive bodies is then equally callously simply kicked overboard meaning that, unable to swim or defend themselves, what remains of their body and life is the subject of more vicious attacks by predators in the sea or they sink to the bbottom of the ocean where , perhaps the pressure is too much for their body which must implode, or they drown., which by any accounts is a rather horrible way to go isn't it? ETC. ETC. Seeing this process executed on board these vessels is excruciating to any sensitive human being and arouses an anger that is hard to control. Whales also are nearing extinction, with the Japanese again being the major culprits by not respecting treaties made to avoid these extinctions. Polar bears in the Arctic (that's North , folks) are being slaughtered for their body PARTS and coats which fetch enormous amounts of money. The Americans today are attempting to prevent these practices from continuing (believe it or not) but the Canadian Government, always with an eye out for the dollar above all else, refuses to ban or reduce the level of destruction of these magnificent animals on the grounds that the Northern Eskimo tribes, named the Inuit, need to hunt to survive. Strange that , really , considering that the parts are still being sold on the world market when, formerly, history states that the Eskimos only used every part of the body for their warmth, tools and food--but NOT for SALE on world markets. There is an old saying"When you hear a man talk, consdider his interests" . That is as true today as ever it was, especially as it relates to the hypocrites we currently have in Government in Canada today. The Alberta tar sands bears that out. Over 2000 ducks were trapped in a tar -settling pond recently which proved a hopeless case to recover. Don't be naive, do you actually think that the oil companies are ever going to clean up the huge mess ? Of course, the developers were not to blame, just the ducks who thougt that the surface was black water or solid ground. The devastation of that part of the world, including the poisonous, toxic, byproducts that have leached into the soil and water tables there, has to be seen to be believed. Reckoned to be the largest potential crude all origin in the world it is exacting a very high price in terms of environmental damage throughout the region. Why? Because our Conservative Government is desperate for the oil revenues and are being pushed by our friendly neighbours to the South who desperately need the oil which it produces. i.e the U.S.A. There is a public outcry in many parts of the world against the cruel practice of seal killing. Why? Because the seals are beautiful, smart and cute and are killed in one of two ways, and it is a bloody business, especially against the white backdrop of snow covered sea ice. (Red blood and white snow do not look too good, folks.) A spike on the end of a large stick is driven into the skull by an Eastern Canadian "fisherman" . The spike does not always go straight into the skull, thus giving the lie to the claims that death is instantaneous. Don't believe a word of it. Sometimes it enters the neck, or the side of the head, and it needs to be ripped out and used again. I have seen seals, with the pole and spike still attached, being dragged across the ice, STILL ALIVE. Now, baby seals are excused this kind of death due solely to public pressure, nothing else. Seals are , apparently, not on the verge of extinction . Also, I understand, that now a bullet to the brain is the preferred method of execution--that is, when you, Joe Public, is/are not looking. A blow from a spike is financially cheaper than a bullet directly into the brain. What stuns me, however, is why it took so much time to get around to the use of a bullet to perform the ritual . Yopu think that slaughter houses for cattle are humane.?Think again. The documentarties show very clean houses , all dolled up for the gullible cameras and public. An animal is supposed to be killed as humanely as possible . The ones that I saw were dispatched by the following means: Frequently knowing what is coming, and frightened half to death already, they try to escape but find that too difficult because they are hemmed into a small metal-railed pen out of which they cannot climb. It is clamped by the neck while someone with a stun gun bangs it on the head. Needless to say, the stronger animals do not go unconscious and are still alive , conscious and kicking, or trembling from nervous reaction or exhaustion. The stunned, but still often conscious, body is then hauled up by the chains attached to the back legs prior to the stunning and as it hangs in the air Mr Gentle takes a knife and slits its throat. Then it moves along the moving assembly-type line whilst the life blood drips out of it WHILST IT IS often STILL ALIVE. Slaughter houses contain a lot of blood and ....maybe I should quit whilst I am ahead....eh? So, is all this necessary for Man to eat? All I can tell you, folks, is that my intake now of animal parts or meat is so small that it can hardly be seen and I eat vegetables and fruit mostly. My health is as good as it has even been, I can still do miles on the bike and the only thing wrong with my body is my failing eyesight and a sore heart at what is happening to this planet and the other animals on it. If a concerted effort is not made by our species to stop all the killing and rape of the earth and other animals , of every stripe, on the face of this planet what kind of a world are we going to leave to future generations.? This planet is, and can continue to be, exquisitely beautiful and bountiful but greed , money and people who apparently are so short- sighted and devoid of conscience. is ruining it. Food for thought!
  3. Brilliant. Seems to have a very quick brain. Ball control unbelievable. Why was he not a high profile International player. It's a delight to watch this video. Thanks Tokely Is V.
  4. Is this thgread about County etc or Caley Thistle? What's happening at the match...please?
  5. Since he seems to be able to score penalties then he has been chosen on more than one occasion to take the kick. This has boosted his tally a tad, rather than his scoring them all with skill and so forth. Not to detract from the fact that he has improved greatly since the start of the season and it is great to see that he is finally being effective in the lone striker role, so long may it continue. With good support he might really turn out to be a winner by the seasdon's end. And ICT's goal difference continues to be the best in the league. Had they not lost some awful goals (e.g. the deflection for Dundee that won them a draw last week) then Caley Thistle would be top of the league.
  6. Looks as if anyone could win the league. Better pay attention to what is going on here at Tulloch and never mind the opposition. Every game is vital from now on.
  7. So does that mean that when any poster on here wants information about a ghostly experience, the only source that they can now contact is my wee black cat, Matilda? O.K. I'll have a word with her when she parks the broom stick in ths cupboard after she arrives home. She's down the street aways, just doing an exorcism for a neighbour's Pekingese who appears to have been taken-over by the spirit of a Great Dane.
  8. Caly D. If you did get it tattooed on your W..... Well. if the club expanded would there be gaps between the let ters?
  9. How did Rooney manage to turn that one " that only needed a tap to put it in the net" round the post? Without the killer instinct, ICT will not be able to win the league, I'm afraid. With Dundee up against it and 0-2 down, less defending and more attacking would seem to have been the best policy. I am a great believer in attacking football. Apart from anything else if the ball is in their half, then it lessens their chances of coming back when they are on their knees. Of course, easier said than done. ICT probably was a bit tired too. I think youth and inexperience has a lot to do with it --referred to by some on here as lack of mental toughness. Sigh. + Grrrrrrr!
  10. Don't despair Gordy from Sneck. If TB feeds him up and he puts' on a bit of weight he will be a well-rounded player won't he? ;)
  11. A Larger SPL is required for obvious reasons. --May happen. Then a merger between ICT and County, with games to be played at Tulloch. Rationalisation makes perfect sense . Smile. Then reduced prices introduced The Old Firm beatles off to England. Will not happen.
  12. Cor Blimey--where did I miss the boat. ? Now it's all Greek to me and, being retired , I really don't care
  13. Maybe the play is a bit more robust than he may have been used to so, if he has the potential, then let TB assist him along the path which should result in a very well-rounded player for ICT eventually.
  14. Wisely investing in a hedge, fund more like.!
  15. Brilliant! You have been granted a free membership in the SP Foreign Amusement Club with many privileges attached thereto. Goodies, dolly mixtures, mixtures of dollies and a host of other stimulating items...all of which can be sold on EBay. To receive your FREE membership Card just send ONLY $35 via the forum message centre to the Hall at Fort George and ask for Mz Moneypenelope, our highly-rewarded and critically acclaimed receptionist, who will attend to all your needs and, knowing her, some that are not on the current curriculum. Believe me you are in for a treat. If you think that you may not be able to find the Hall, you can always ask Caley D who has been there several times and doesn't seem to want to quit enjoying the special privileges aforementioned that I granted to him a loooooong time ago, (Have you ever noticed that the Pimple's posts have never been censored. Hoch! Hoch!)He is a great driver and you can go to sleep on the way over to save your energy for the good times to follow. As I mentioned, above, just don't forget to send the $50 requested to gain special entry status, all you can eat at the refectory table, special attention from the sea maidens who come up in the centre of the underground pool from Atlantis, a new hair-do complete with frontal upturned coif, a bottle of Abbey red wine especially fermented by the collegiate of monks and flown in specially from Western Canada for the occasion at great cost, a stage show including hairy Horatio the Hornblower, Delightful Delila the Topping Teaser, a ghost taken from Feb 8's archives who will doff his head for a fiver and , last but by no means least, the one and only Mz Monepenelope who at great cost to the bottom line of the Hall's Treasurer, has agreed to attend to your every whim and then some. If you survive the experience you will then have the choice of allowing C.aley D to run you home in his bus, or you may stay the night for another $100, which will allow you to luxuriate in satin sheets imported from China, at not quite so high a cost as formerly, and a lovely velvet pillow stuffed to the brim with feathers from Cuthbert the Canadian goose who has agreed to specially fly in to the Hall across vast areas of Prairie in Saskatchewan, through terrible weather in Toronto whilst giving us his solemn oath and promise not to drop anything untoward as he passes over Scotty's residence, then to brave the vicious Atlantic swells and the Roaring Forties whilst sending hourly reports of his plight (sorry, flight) as he drives courageously onward. What a guy! As you can see, Pull My Finger, when you do pull it out then it will come out of my cheek and will point in only one direction--North East to the Hall Of Decadence and Pleasure., which ios usually reserved for only World renowned spies whose dangerous profession entitles them to some R & R. Enjoy! Mun.
  16. So--what date is the final hearing set for? Atevico --do you know? It would be a relief to put this case to rest and then be free to get on with current affiars.
  17. Little choice-a nw Manager for the next season would require more adjustments, more turmoil, etc. Stability is what is required at this point and it would help some players to like the Manager if they knew that buckling to and earning a place by hard work for a Manager who has the backing of the Board might not be a bad thing! I think that TB would look favourably upon any player that always is co-operative, works hard in training and does his best. What more could a Manager ask of any player? And if that is not sufficient for the Manager to promote the player and give him his chance then what does that tell ypu--he does not rate him? If so, there are other opportunities around for said player to try to progress at another team and to realise that life can be unfair.
  18. Mars Bars are smaller than they were when I was a boy. I've been thinking about writing to the company. :P
  19. Not being lawyers , and not knowing the basis on which the club's lawyers are advising them to go forward, we can only speculate. Which is too irrational and exhausting a process for us to waste time on any more. This appears to be specially true when one takes into account that the club have only recently had the advantage of reviewing the FIFA ruling. We, as onlookers, in many cases have been willing to go out on a limb with our views without the benefit of having evn studied that document. Which reminds me of the adage...."Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread." On this Forum this case has just about been done to death so I, for one, am content to let the club proceed and see if, in fact, they have a case. I doubt very much that saving "face" is the prime, or any, motivator because saving face for any offciial at the club will not help them avoid insolvency or increasing financial troubles and, in any event, the main players in this dramatic stage play DO appear to be busy people who probably could se this case far enough and would much rather spend their time in a more productive manner. This news is interesting and we may yet be surprised at the outcome of this case.
  20. "Scarlets"has an apostrophe before the "s" Manfer. :P You're a nice little mannie , so you are. And I think that you like me.!! :002: :001:
  21. Oops. Where do start? Let me just say that these games, showcasing the top 30 athletes in the whole wide world in each sport are a thrill a minute. A canadian friend of mine who is temporarily living in Dorset states that the BBC could not afford the huge cost of purchasing the media -controlled full daily, non-stop ,24 hour (at least it seems like that), coverage and has been showing only snippets. Great Britain, unfortunately perhaps due to a lack of backing of the U.K Government don't appear to be featuring anywhere although they do have some athleteswho seem to be able to keep up but rarely win any medals. The Olympic fever, which was muted here in Vancouver almost right up until the start of the games, has reached a fever pitch crescendo and with 60,000 people showing up at the Opening Ceremonies ,which was very spectacular, and at least 60,000 people, including visitors, athletes, and youth showing up nightly in the centre of Vancouver (which has been completely blocked to traffic) the noise and party atmosphere has to be seen to be believed. The youth of this town is having an absolute ball with parties of every description taking place in Vancouver and also at Cypress mountain and WhistlerVillage. They have specially built "houses" where ath;etes and families and friends can gather for informal relaxing sessions and the facilities are, needless to say, top notch. The British Columbia. and CanadianFederal Governments have spared nothing in their desire to provide one helluva show and I shudder at what we, the residents of this area, will be faced with after the shindig has passed in terms of the huge costs. The Richmond Olympic Oval which was specially built for the speed skating cost 90 million dollars alone and , apparently is beautiful. Regarding the mountains, the West Coast of Canada has experienced very unseasonally warm weather so far .The "El Nino" phenomenon , which brings warm water from the South every 4 years or so is in full swing and we have rain here instead of snow. This has meant that they have had to bring in bales of straw to re-construct the runs and then covered them in snow trucked in by helicopter and trucks from Manning Park t\o Cypress Mountainsome 90 kilometers away . Then, at least 1,000 volunteers have been toiling daily since 3 a.m. until late at night ,working on the runs and have been roundly praised for thier tremendous effort and work to produce great courses to date. You, in the UK have been missing all this whilst small countries like Latvia and Albania have T>V> coverage all done and susted. The cameras here are the top of the line and the pictures absolutely superb with colour and vibrancy being spell-binding. The camera operators are also great and some of the shots of the action --viz: the dowhnhill racers, who are captured at every angle and at every turn, and the speed skating where the competitors are caught head on by the strategically-situated cameras on rails, makes it seem as ify ou are speeding in front of them in a bus or something\watching evey expression on their contorted faces and so on are quite enthrtalling. The speeds that tes eskaters go at is awesome. The spirit now prevailing in this area , where everybody , seems to be friends with everyone else is hard to believe when we have been faced with so much cynicism of t Government and high prices, taxes ,wconomic woes etc in recent years is actually very inspiring and quite amazing. Touriosts say that the facilities are magnificent and that the opeople here are friendly and everyone is spending pots of money. They are here for a good time if not a long time and they sure won't forget the screaming hordes of spectators on the hills at every venue and every sport. To be truthful this is one of the most heartening spiritual upliftment events that I have ver viewed or experience. I stay up late at night glued to the T>V> admiring the joys of victory, the anguish and tears of defeat, the superb information and commentaries from top notch commentators from every media slot in North America and from around the world, interviews from athletes from all around the world (all speaking English) and the tremendous efforts of all the athletes to produce their very best performances. I am told tht the BBC , instead of highlighting the performances, apparently chooese to highlight, for exmple , the "Vancouver riots" that did mar the start of this event but their reports of rioters and terror tactics is complete and utter nonsense. What happened was that about 200 young people protesting against the big business who they allege are profiting from these games at the expense of the poor, plus what they state (that these Olympic games is a complete waste of money --which I initially agreed with by the way)were marching peacefully and fast down the centre of the city with police around to watch what was going on. Then some of them ,just a mere handful, got out of hand and started smashing the large plate glass windows of The HUdson's Bay Company just because they were the official suppliers of all the Toques and T-shirts, the red mittens that are the hit of the games, and all the other retail paraphernalia that goes weith this event. Theyu also overturnmed some metal newspaper bins and dragged them into the street (oooooh my!!!!!).One or two were arresed and turn out to be well-known in Canada and the U.S. for thier "activist" tactics. But there was no riots, no violence and no tasering of participants who were never stopped from execrcising their rights to demonstrate peacefully. Personally I find it sad that otherwise responsible journalistic outlets can so distort events elesewhere just for medisa sensation because they have no thing much else to report. A for the athlets and the actyual soports this is a corncucopia of excellence. 1. The Luge death. The day it happened my wife came home from work and immediately told me that the word in he street was that other incidents had happened with this track and been, basically, ignored. The other truth is that the gentleman who was shot out of his luge sled at the very fast final turn at the bottom of a every fast and dangerous course was not as experience as he should have been for this run and he had confided tohis father just before he started the run that he had been scared. So what fault did the Olympic committe lay. A LARGE ONE IMHO--firstly, they should ave had the wall at that point at a much higher level and the metal stanchions should have been deeply padded in anticipation of such an event., especially since there have been several accidents on this course where the luge-ers have been ejected out of their sledges but somehow have managed to hang on to them and have not suffered any serious injuries to date. Now the O.C. hav immediately reduced the speed for the men's run by some 10 KPH (oooooh!) making the Women's starting position farther down the course their starting position and the women's starting position is now a similar distance even further downhill from their initial starting position. This hast horoughly pissed -off all the very highly trained and experienced athlets on bOTH sides , both male and female, since they know the dangers but want the thrill of being the best in the world at the limit of their abilities and have trained at very fast speeds that they now have to change and get used to after 2 years of training. What a chaotic mess I can tell you. The downhill races are thrilling and so far there have been a few accidents, especially in the women's runs where today one skier fell badly near the finish and had to be helicoptered to hospital. Ulp. The Canadian young woman (24) who won the cross boarding downhill event yesterday and the gold medal has had 8 surgeries on her knees and had the leg broken twice and so on. Make no mistake ,these athletes are fun to watch and their skill cannot be underestimated. Some 25 years ago I ripped my ligaments in my left knee just skiing slowly down a nely opened run at Whistler's sister mountain, Blackomb, and, despite trying twice to come back, I could not make it without the knee breaking down again which meant that my sports career was over cin virtually any sport except cycling. So I know the dangers , the fear and the joys of wto get your recreation. It's a pity that you are not treated to the T.V. showing of these ports because you would also get witht he games a panoply of magnificent views of the local snowbound peaks and sports facilities, whic are awesome. To sum up :- I now view these games and the spirit of joy and friendship that has been generated with many people from, and around, the world as worth the cost, since the experience has been, and will continue to be , a never-to-be-forgottent uplifting of the spirit which frankly transcends and disipates any negativity relating to the problems that have been experienced in running the Games and in running this planet. I have thought ,in the 36 years that I have been here in Vancouver that Candians, by and large, are more motivated by money than anything else but what I have seen and felt during only the first 6 days of this absolutely spectacular, well run and huge World event, has revealed to me that , particularly among the up and coming youth of this area and this world, that given the chance we as a human race can achieve miraculous and upliftimng things and, frankly, it is a life-changing new perception of who we are deep in our hearts and what we should and can aspire to if we put co-operation and spirituality first. It is VERY inspiring and thrilling. Emigrate to Canada if you want because it is a small population country where opportunities for personal success and growth abound and has SO much potential for any hard-working, ambitious and positive person. Thanks :allhail: :D guys, hope you are still awake.
