  1. Absolute ponse of a player. And surprise surprise the one time he needed to jump up to catch he stayed strong.
  2. Clash of the Thistles Club football is back on the agenda as Caley Thistle welcome Partick Thistle to TCS this weekend in what will be the first ever meeting between the two sides in the top flight. Both teams recorded disappointing results going into the International break and will be looking to bounce back in front of the TV cameras this Sunday lunchtime. Many of us here will be looking for a major reaction to the hiding dished out at McDiarmid Park. While our record there doesn't make good reading anyway it was a damning display and will be a big test of the boys mental strength that will hopefully be helped by the backing of a home crowd. Partick meanwhile will be looking to add some goals to their game. Despite sitting in a healthy 8th place in the table they haven't won since the end of August and have only managed three goals in their last five games. While their recent form hasn't been so impressive there is no question that the 1st Division Champs have shown that they are a capable side since their return to Premier League football. Most this far North will remember their 3-1 victory away to County earlier in the campaign, a scoreline that could have been so much more were it not for a valiant display from Mark Brown. Some other hard fought points against teams from above and a win at St Mirren Park have seen them build a decent foundation for the rest of the season and with another ambitious young manger plying his trade in Alan Archibald the future looks promising for the SPFL's newest side. In terms of players to watch for in the opposition ranks, Archibald has put his resources to good use and has some good shuffling options. Kallum Higginbotham and Stephen Lawless will provide a threat down the flanks while Kris Doolan has chipped in with some important goals since the season kicked off. The likes of Ross Forbes and Sean Welsh are also players with great potential who have struggled so far to make an impression in the top flight with their previous clubs, and come into this season with a major point to prove. Like ourselves they also have the luxury of having two quality keepers vying for the number 1 jersey. Scott Fox brings a great shot stopping reputation from the lower leagues while Paul Gallacher is no stranger to the top flight and has put in some impressive performances when called upon so far. Options are something that Terry Butcher will need to call upon this week with the news that James Vincent will be out of action until the new year with a fractured tibia. Its a bitter blow for the man from Glossop who hadn't just put in some impressive displays but had also endeared himself to the supporters with his high work rate and his box to box approach to the game. No question that he will be missed at both ends of the pitch. His absence gives Big Terry a selection dilemma however with Ben Greenhalgh, Danny Williams, Marley Watkins and young Liam Polworth all in contention for that remaining place in the side. Greenhalgh himself was impressive in the 3-0 win at home to Hibs. His pace and trickery was clear to see and he also had a hand in Richie Foran's goal in the same game. Liam Polworth was given a chance to impress in the away game to St Johnstone with his first full start, but in many ways was thrown at the deep end given the way things went. He is rated highly by Terry though and it would be no surprise to see him back in the starting eleven. Personally I would go with Greenhalgh. He left a real impression in the Hibs game and with it being at home we should be looking to win this with the free flowing football we have shown at home so far this season. Greenhalgh matches that style. Historically this is a closely fought encounter between both sides. It has been three years since they last met, during the season that Caley Thistle proved that bouncebackability was achievable. Partick were actually the last team to beat ICT before they went on the unbeaten streak of 21 games. A run that led to 1st Division glory. The defeat saw Partick come out on top with a 2-1 score. The game itself was barely visible due to frozen fog but it wasn't enough to distract Steve Lovell (a constant thorn in ICT's side) from scoring a late winner. Not many would have predicted what followed that night but I doubt anyone would have traded it for anything else. Partick did fall foul during our unbeaten streak with Caley Thistle recording 2-1 and 1-0 wins at home and away. Both games in which a keeper called Jonny Tuffey put in some impressive displays for Partick before earning himself a move to the top flight with some Highland team. I'm predicting that this weekend won't be too different from recent encounters. Partick will probably look to soak up the pressure but there is no question they have players that can hurt us if they get the chance and with live coverage being provided for the game, players from both sides will no doubt have that added incentive to impress. Both teams also come into this fixture with points to prove. Partick, that they can score and ICT showing that the hiding received in Perth has not traumatised the boys. In all honesty though I'm just happy to be heading back to TCS for a game. National breaks are always a bit of a bore unless your heading to Hampden and you often find yourself anxious for club football to return asap. Well here it be so grab an early lunch (with pint), look pretty for the cameras and head to TCS this Sunday. AJS's prediction - As said I think it will be closely fought but with the home advantage I'm hoping to see us come away with the points. For me I see a good early start followed by a game of dogged defending. I'm going to go for a 2-0 home win, but the Harry Wraggs usually make life difficult for us and they have already shown that they can play a bit, à la County game.
  3. For a split second I thought the title had something to do with the Cartel...this is a relief.
  4. Countys loss. Munro may not be the defender he once was but he is still better than McLean and Boyd (both absolute cack).
  5. David Unsworth was a prolific penalty taker (Everton, Portsmouth, Wigan, etc). I dont know how many he took but I believe he only missed one penalty in his career.
  6. He will be missed. His work rate is top notch and his back tracking was certainly missed last week. For the time being id put Nick in the middle just off Billy and give Greenhalgh some more game time, maybe rotate Watkins and Williams as well.
  7. I think his 2nd spell here all but killed his management career. Should never have come back and should never have left for Dundee United in the first place. Dosent have the personality to make a good manager but there is no questioning his coaching abilities and his regime for fitness. He will probably do well as a coach.
  8. Havent scored a goal at McDiarmid Park since 2011 and have only taken 2 points from our last 5 visits there in scoreless draws. Safe to say its not a happy hunting ground us. I didnt expect us to win today but I also didnt expect hammering. Its disappointing but we know we are capable of better. All about how we react now.
  9. Brown is a thug. Always has been, always will be. Some may argue that you need that type of player in your team and I suppose there is some truth in that but will never change which means that despite having good aspects to his game he will always let himself and his team down with that petulant side to his game. Last night was a prime example. He makes very little contact with Neymar (who rolls around like hes been invaded by an Ant farm) but its still contact and its blatantly obvious he aims the kick at Neymar which he dosent have to do, he gives the ref a reason to send him off. If I were Lennon id be fuming as Celtic had a major foothold in the game and to lose not just any player but your captain to something so ridiculous and in such an important game is a measure of Scott Brown. But when it comes to Celtic or indeed Rangers (RIP 1872-2012) for that matter its never an internal problem. Always someone elses fault. I hope he sees sense to not appeal. It would be a waste of time.
  10. Greenhalgh and Doran really stretched Hibs on Saturday and Greenhalgh gives us that extra bit of pace too. Also think we get more out of Ross through the middle.
  11. Scored 3 but yet again should have scored about 9. Was eager to see what sort of a response we would get from the Aberdeen game and the boys stepped up when it mattered. Lots of Hibs keepers seem to gift ICT players goals. Malkowksi, Ma Kalamby, Andy McNeil and Simon Brown have all done at TCS in previous encounters and Ben Williams has just added himself to that list. Was nice to see Foran get another goal, seems to get himself into good areas despite his deep role in midfield. Billy scored his 2, the 2nd an absolute peach. Could have had a hat trick yet again today. Was a pity to see Vincent get injured. Thought Terry would go like for like with Polworth but Greenhalgh did not disappoint. Very promising signs in what I saw today. Quick, skillful and chases everything down, that header he made for Foran's goal seemed a complete lost cause and awkward to execute. Fair play to him. Hope Vincent's injury is not too serious but Greenhalgh has certainly staked his claim for a place in the side. Good crowd today and another atmosphere that Im sure left a great impression on the players and indeed big Terry. Happy to see us get back to winning ways and occupy top spot (hope the Celts enjoyed their hour spent above us ).
  12. Brill Raven, Meekings, Warren, Shinnie Draper, Foran Doran, Ross, Williams McKay Subs: Esson, Devine, Tremarco, Polworth, Vincent, Watkins, Agdestein
  13. I think inexperience was a key factor in the semi final last season. The boys can only come back stronger from that. With Celtic gone it blows the whole competition wide open. If we were to get to the semis again I think we will be much better prepared. We should fear no one left in the competition but we should still be cautious. You just never know in the cup.
  14. Esson Meekings, Warren, Devine, Shinnie Draper, Foran Doran, Ross, Williams McKay Subs: Brill, Raven, Polworth, Greenhalgh, Allen
  15. It was a pretty poor game from both sides but I must concede that Aberdeen probably just about deserved the points based on the chances they created. Its disappointing but we have probably been due a bit of a reality check. Tuesday night and the Hibees game will be a big test to see if we are capable of bouncing back. Must admit the long ball was not much appreciated...mainly cause it didnt work. The game was crying out to be stretched from our point of view but Agdestein was not the man to bring on for it. Williams or Greenhalgh would have probably been better suited to come on and have a go. I feel for Billy, he got no service at all from other attacking players and was left to fend for himself. He did get a few chances but nothing more than half chances. Aberdeen could see the game needed freshening up and brought on Magennis and Vernon, both made an impact with the latter grabbing a cracking goal. I must admit my first thought on Warren's header was that it was in, i was ready to celebrate. Im yet to see it on TV but it would be really disappointing if it did turn out to have crossed the line. It typified Thomson and his officials performances if thats the case. Thought they were extremely poor. Didnt allow the game to flow, werent consistent with bookings when it came to severity of fouls and didnt let advantage go on certain occasions, I'm not saying he is the reason we lost. I would imagine both sides were left frustrated with his performance as ref, does worry me a tad that he is one of the most highly rated officials in this country though. As Terry said we will have to lick our wounds and move on, we were bound to lose sooner or later but now its a case of bouncing back and building on what was a terrific start to the season.
  16. How can you put Tansey here he was really good just the fact he didn't stay long He never stood out in games, his audacious passes never paid off, he never scored enough (which he thought he would) and he left at the drop of a hat and surprise surprise has become a hit down south..for me his heart was never in it up here but he wasnt a bad player, just didnt give a rats .
  17. Tad harsh on Coxy. Thought he was a good player up until he got injured. Bayne didnt score many goals but his workrate was second to none, i would have him nowhere a mediocre team. for me... Tuffey McCann, Williams, Hogg, Hastings Tansey, Kerr, Duff, Morgan Niculae, Alex MacDonald
  18. We didnt have Snodgrass on trial but we were looking to sign him and James McPake from Livingston...in the end the idea was shelved so we could sign...wait for it Barrowman.
  19. Was Patrick Kisnorbo not on trial with us once? Went on to play for Hearts and Leicester amongst others, not a bad player but cant remember if he was on trial at us for sure.
  20. I can see him being at TCS beyond this season if he keeps doing what hes doing. Id only ever seen him play once before (he was amazing that day) and its safe to say he has shown he has what it takes to play at this level. If we get a longer deal sorted for him then i think it would be an excellent piece of business.
  21. I shall be in attendance.
  22. Most of their new boys look pretty hit and miss and Munro was looking old for the first time yesterday, got absolutely schooled by Gauld for Armstrongs goal. Luckassen looked like a real poor mans Tade up top, never looked like scoring. Hope he gets fined for pying the media. He is such a petty squabbler.
