  1. I thought it was County who swindled home attendance figures...
  2. That was far from the worst we have played this season but we remain largely toothless. Boy do I wish I had stayed at home and watched the rugby on TV ! The promotion play offs are beyond us this season now but we remain at risk of the relegation play off place and I would happily trade victory over Dumbarton in the Irn Bru final for beating them in the two remaining league fixtures we have against them. The frustrating thing is that, on our day, we can match any side in the division including St Mirren. The trouble is we have problems with consistency, commitment and, worst of all, discipline that the the teams in the top half of the division don't have to nearly the same extent. We need to give Daniel McKay a run of starts to see what he is capable of. There is much to be said for the old axiom that if you're good enough and old enough and experience of playing regularly in this league will stand him in better sted for next season.
  3. Thank goodness. Couldn't bear another weekend without some league action.
  4. Not if Scottish viewers were sufficiently well organised and cancelled their subscriptions to SKY and BT Sports en masse. That would double the amount that the TV companies pay for our game. TV money has become a necessary evil in the game but Scottish football, largely to poor leadership of both the League and the SFA, continues to sell itself short.
  5. Whatever the fee was within the range quoted, it was inadequate for the best player we have ever produced. Clubs like Dundee United or even Hamilton have negotiated far better deals in similar situations.
  6. Whether we would want him or not, we almost certainly couldn't afford to take Billy McKay on loan at the moment.
  7. I was widely reported at half a million at the time. I don't know if anyone has told you but Wikipedia is not always an entirely reliable source!
  8. I confess that I started out with a great deal of sympathy for the current office bearers for a number of reasons. However, with months and months passing without any information or any impression that anything is being done with any sense of urgency to retrieve the situation I confess that that sympathy is now wearing thin.
  9. Well, there was a certain inevitability about that. I can't decide whether this young woman's "Olympic career' is tragedy or comedy.
  10. I strongly suspect that it will be Perth.
  11. That and the hoards who board the ferry at Larne every weekend to watch one of the Ugly Sisters for reasons that are not always entirely football related.
  12. There was little to admire about of the state of the pitch yesterday. However, that is in no way the fault of Tommy and the groundstaff. As has been said, he does a remarkable job with the resources he has and without him the match would probably not have be een played and no doubt he is already working more hours than most of us getting it in a fit state for the next home game.
  13. They tend to be on a Sunday.
  14. A VERY long way from being knowledgeable on the subject but it seems to me that, while she probably has the greatest basic speed of anybody, she remains tactically naive in getting herself into positions where she has to take additional risks in what is an intrinsically risky sport. I understand that there is no serious injury and age will be fit to compete in the 1000 metres on Tuesday which is her favourite distance. I sincerely hope that things fall in place for her in that event. Despite often being the author of her own misfortune, she deserves a bit of good fortune.
  15. There is a difference between market value and what we can currently afford due to mismanagement for the last three years.
  16. It would also be an illegal and unenforceable restraint of trade as far as the individual player is concerned.
  17. Maybe that's where we are going wrong in attracting more fans. We need to get rid of the pies and serve crowdie and crackers.
  18. No club in the country can survive on gate money.
  19. Better Still, we need an effective and efficient youth system that produces a player we can sell on for a decent fee at least every couple of season. The fact that we have only 'home reared' one player that we have been able to sell on for a substantial fee in almost a quarter of a century is a sad indictment of what we've done st youth level over the years
  20. Only in the world of football does this bizarre practice of rewarding failure exist. Managerial contracts should provide for a maximum of three month's salary paid on termination. If the manager is at all competent he should find alternative employment within that time.
  21. Far to late to even think about overhauling St Mirren even if they do lose their manager. Any slim hopes we have of promotion this season lie with somehow sneaking into the playoffs.
  22. Wholly agree. It's more what that statement doesn't say rather than what it does.
  23. Bluddy automatic spell check..
  24. We are the Jags. They are merely Patrick.
