  1. I wonder if the signing of Marlon King was done against the wishes of McLeish and this is why he has resigned? It appears McLeish informed the club of his resignation by email whilst abroad on holiday. Neither the club nor McLeish have released any reasons for his resignation but if this is the reason, the man would rise hugely in my estimation.
  2. All too often F1 is mind numbingly boring but this was something else. What a brilliant drive by Button! But regardless of his talent, the excitement would not have been there had it not been for the weather which created incidents and then got the safety car out which bunched up the field on several occasions. They really should schedule Grand Prix in locations and times of the year when rain is highly likely. Not only does it lead to excitement for the fans, the constantly changing conditions make it much more of a challenge both for the drivers and the constructors with the result that the winners of wet races are more often the top drivers behind the wheel of adaptable all round performing cars rather than the fastest car regardless of which muppet is driving. It has been suggested that tracks should be watered to lead to more challenging conditions but the powers that be rejected the idea on the grounds that it introduced unnecessary and avoidable risk. If the drivers were not prepared to compete where there was risk they would refuse to drive in conditions like on Sunday. Nobody is forcing the drivers to drive so if they don't want to face the extra challenge a watered track would offer then they don't have to sign their multi million pound contracts. Wet races also have their comedy moments too. This made me laugh yesterday but it could have been very serious. http://news.bbc.co.u...ne/13748154.stm Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!
  3. Fantastic news
  4. Well said. Good first post. Have a green dot.
  5. The only rumours worth listening to are by Fleetwood Mac. Bottom line is that Butcher's job is to bring success to the club and he has done that this year. One of the sad things about football is that those players who do a fantastic job in getting the club to where they are, are then often judged by the manager to be not good enough to take the club further or to maintain that level. That can lead to bitterness and feelings, rightly or wrongly, that players have been treated unfairly. Have players been treated unfairly or, worse, bullied? I don't know and I'm not in a position to speculate - so I won't. What I would say is that if any players have been treated inappropriately then that is an internal matter for them and the club and I would hope that the Board would deal with any allegations appropriately. For my part I am very sorry to see fantastic servants of the club such as Roy, Russell, Grant and now, it appears, Ross leave the club, particularly in what would appear to be less than happy circumstances. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for the thrills and great entertainment they have given over the years. But I also look forward. Some excellent young players are contracted for next season and hopefully the manager will have done his job properly and signed up players with the promise to exceed the achievements of the great players they will be replacing. Next season will certainly be different and I for one can't wait!
  6. Think I'll stick to the day job
  7. I have now recovered from the shock of this news and whilst I am sorely tempted to take the opportunity to indulge in a bout of Barrowman baiting, I think there is a serious question to be asked here. That question is; "why?" I think it fair to say that most fans' view would be that Barrowman is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. But yet managers seem keen to sign and then play him. Apart from a brief spell with County in Division 2 he has not shown anything that would lead one to think he can play at Division 1 level and certainly not SPL level. Yet he was the preferred choice in the starting line up at ICT even several months into the Butcher era and only lost his place when a Rooney hatrick demonstrated to anyone who still needed convincing (i.e. Buitcher) that Rooney was a far better player. Having left ICT he went to County and continued his miserable run of form. To be honest, County have a pretty reasonable midfield and create a number of chances but this last season's reports of County games have been littered with phrases such as "the best chance of the game fell to Barrownan but he tamely shot wide form 6 yards" or words to that effect. Barrowman's failure to score anything like an acceptable number of goals was a significant factor in County entering the relegation dog fight but still he continued to be a regular in the starting line up even when Calderwood took over. Despite that, an SPL side have signed him! I find that astonishing. It may be that Barrowman is impressive in training, but whether he is or isn't cuts no ice if he can't then translate that to performances on the pitch. Surely his record speaks for itself and I for one cannot see what it is about him that impresses managers and I cannot think of a reasonable answer to my question. McIntyre says that he has signed Barroman as a target man. He's that all right. He is easy to find because his movement is so poor. But what is the point of a target man if he can't do anything with the ball when he gets it? The reality is that the only target he is likely to be is a target for the Pars fans.
  8. From the BBC report on the match tonight Irish keeper Tuffey failed to deal with two high balls after Bellamy's initial corner and a further weak punch from the custodian was slammed into the roof of the net by Ramsey. Doesn't sound like the form of a ?100,000 keeper to me. Mind you, it must be difficult to be at your best when the official attendance is only 529.
  9. Just a little miscalculation, He is still keeping to his 21st October for the destruction of the planet but now realises that the rapture and the start of the earthquakes etc did not happen on 21st May because a loving and compassionate God would not have those who don't qualify for the heavenly rapture suffer for the 5 months between May and October. I feel so much better for that.
  10. I do think this is a strange one. I can't think County will be paying Grant more than he was getting with us. At 30 he has still got a few years at the top. If Terry didn't rate him sufficiently to keep him in the squad next season, why has he been an automatic choice virtually all this season? Either Terry has got a couple of top class defenders all but signed or there is some serious stuff behind the scenes. I'm not in the slightest bit suprised he has moved to County - he's a brilliant signing for them. I wish him all the best - up to a point, of course. A cup game against County next season could well be interesting and would certainly be one I would not be too confident of winning.
  11. Can't see any likeness between Esson and Button in these pictures or any other but Richie Foran and Russell Howard is a good shout. And there's a picture of a footballer on the front page of the Sunday Herald who looks remarkably like - Oh God! what's his name? Memory's not what it was.
  12. Oh ye of little faith! Maybe nobody we know or have heard about has been raptured up to heaven because we are not considered worthy (by the way, has anybody seen Adam Rooney today?) But just because we haven't heard of people ascending to heaven does not mean that it hasn't happened somewhere. But maybe the end of the world has started. Certainly Birmingham City fans think so. Shame about Blackpool though. A volcano has erupted in Iceland completely without warning. Some earthquake activity and then a major eruption only 20 seconds later - most unusual. In addition there is new earthquake activity around Katla which is the big brother to the volcano which caused all the trouble just over a year ago. So maybe something strange is going on. Remember, when folk first suggested the Earth was round and orbitted the sun, they were ridiculed too. This is a great one for the bookies though. 10,000 - 1 on the end of the world some time in October. If it actually happens there'll be no one around to collect!
  13. Shocking - blatent discrimination against gays
  14. Completely agree. Good luck to them The episode of the former club relocating to Milton Keynes showed complete contempt for the fans. Good also to see that MK Dons are out of the play-offs. It will be a good day for football when AFC Wimbledon finally get ahead of them.
  15. Heard that some neighbours of his were suggesting they would leave a pile of clothes and a pair of shoes on their front door steps so that when the loony preacher looked out of the window he would think everybody else had been raptured up to heaven whilst he, for some inexplicable reason had been left behind to suffer the destruction of the planet.
  16. Ryan Esson. Underrated by Craig Levein.
  17. Fine sounding words from Smith - but do you believe him? He says he has no time for the sectarian aspect which attaches itself to the old firm. So what has he done about it in the years over the last 25 years when he's been at Ibrox? He may not have incited it as Lennon has but it is as deeply ingrained at Ibrox as it is at Celtic Park. If he has no time for the sectarian aspect he should have walked away from it or done something about it. He did neither. Guilty by association in my book.
  18. He claims not but I think he might be telling porkies.
  19. Lots of things Lennon has said and done make people dislike him strongly and stir up sectarian rivalries, but nothing Lennon has ever said or done justifies the threats and abuse he and his family have faced. But the real culprits here are not Lennon or those who over-react to his odious remarks and actions. The real culprits are Celtic FC who continue to employ Lennon . Celtic are supposed to be signed up to stamping out bigotry from football but their continuing support for Lennon allows and encourages these tensions to simmer and boil over. All the debate about the rise in sectarianism in football would not be happening if Celtic had not employed Lennon in the first place or had dispensed with his services as soon as his behaviour showed he is not fit to manage a football club.
  20. Don't think anyone comes close to Barrowman, but in his favour he's probably given us more laughs than anyone else on this forum. When I first saw him play I thought he was sh*te so I have to admit that I also seriously over-rated him! Seriously though, it has to be Barrowman by virtue of the faith managers showed in him. Someone else made comment on how vigourously Brewster persued him but it is sobering to think that just 2 years ago, Butcher was picking Barrowman over Rooney . We should not forget also that there was some debate on here about who was the better player - but I won't name, names. It was only the fact that Barrowman got injured and Rooney seized his opportunity that it finally dawned on just about everyone and finally our Terry that Rooney was by far the better player.
