  1. I wish it had been an early start yesterday. A 2.30 kick off and I would have missed the game.
  2. If tonight's game wasn't depressing enough I now see that Hamilton scored in the 4th minute of time added on against Hibs to make the result 1 - 2. I had originally predicted that scoreline, but last night in light of Hibs recent form I changed it to 0 - 2. Had I left it alone I would be 6th and now I'm 10th. However, every cloud has a silver lining - Hamilton's recent form is even worse than ours and whilst I'd now place us favourites for ending the season in 10th, we are at least a step nearer mathematical safety than we were at the start of the evening.
  3. Don't know where to start - so I won't.
  4. I think Laurence has had a bad day. There is some truth in what he says although it is rather overstated. He's just being unrealistic in his expectations. Even Barcelona have bad days.
  5. Good post, Dougal. Every match from now on will be the most important match of the season untill we have either acheived a top 6 position or it is no longer possible. Time for everyone to get behind the team.
  6. A bit harsh :annoyed: This will be the final table Celtic Rangers Hearts Dundee Utd Kilmarnock Aberdeen Motherwell Hibernian St Johnstone ICT St Mirren Hamilton dougal Looks like you're for the drop, Dougal
  7. Get real, Laurence. What do you expect? How many teams are there in England based in a town the size of Inverness who have a team playing at the level ICT are? Very, very few. The fact is that ICT are a team who are punching above their weight at the moment. They did not get where they are without playing some pretty good football. Enjoy the fact that ICT are an SPL side and enjoy it when the football is good - just don't expect it every week. Oh, and why don't you change your avatar to Fergie if you're going to slag off the manager
  8. 3.30 Kick Off on Sunday allows Old Firm supporters to go to church in the morning and still make it up for the game.
  9. If there is one thing that is predictable it is that the results are going to be unpredictable. This week in the Predictor league only 8 out of 126 predictions got the correct score - thats about 1 in 16 being correct. Given that there are only 16 possible scores where neither team scores 4 or more it just goes to show that thecollective wisdom of the pundits in the predictor league is no better than choosing scores at random. At the start of the season I said I'd be happy for us to finish 11th. I'll stick my neck out and predict we'll finish somewhere between 4th and 10th. That means that as far as I'm concerned, taking the season as a whole its been a good season.
  10. We shouldn't let our instinctive feelings of revulsion run away with our assumptions of what has happened here. We don't know the full circumstances although the rumour mill is working overtime. What we do know is that cases of mothers murdering their young children are extremely rare. What is much more common is for mothers to do nothing to prevent abuse perpetrated on their children by the father or "stepfather". However appalled we may by what appears to have happened we can be pretty certain that the accused woman is a very disturbed individual.
  11. Let's hope they don't bugger up the pitch too much. There's a proper game being played there on the following Tuesday.
  12. We moan about poor refereeing decisions but what about this. I think the referee was admiring the quality of the save and didn't clock it wasn't the keeper who made it. http://www.youtube.c...player_embedded
  13. I like this poll. It let me vote for all 3 options.
  14. It's all very depressing. We need a real shake-up in the game that encourages dynamic change. We need a pyramid system that breathes new life into the bottom echelons of the Scottish League. In England the potential for teams to progress from minor leagues into the league means that small clubs can have real ambition whilst established clubs cannot afford to be complacent. As a result quality throughout the structure has improved. Take today's match in the cup where it appears as though non league Crawley Town outplayed Man Utd at Old Trafford - they had more of the possession and more shots at goal. League restructuring needs to be about improving quality throughout the leagues because that is how quality in depth at the top will be produced. It is not just about how many title deciders the old firm can have in a season.
  15. Don't get carried away, We've got a very difficult run in and whilst 4th is still possible, 6th is still a very challenging target. The win today was really important and will have boosted confidence no end. The next four games are absolutely crucial - we probably need to see the game at Hibs as a must win because after that all our games are against sides we might expect to end in the top 6. Two games against Dundee Utd and one against Motherwell will be games we can't afford to lose and we realistically need to win 2 of those. With teams behind us having games in hand we probably need 10 points from the next 4 games. If we don't, we will need to beat Hearts and/or Celtic later on and hope other results go our way. Kilmarnock are certainly stuttering and might drop out of the top 6, but on the other hand I wouldn't rule Aberdeen out.
  16. Calderwood has a pretty decent record in management in Scottish football and County have a reasonable squad who have underperformed. I would be surprised if County did not improve and would expect them to end the season in mid table safety. I look forward to being proven completely wrong.
  17. Great post from Caleytillidie. The thing is, rules is rules and where they are silly rules you need to apply a bit of commonsense in judging how far you can go in breaking the rules. Where stewards are inflexible, rude and aggressive, then it is best to sit down and watch the game. Goading them and getting thrown out is not clever. Having said that there have clearly been times where the behaviour of the stewards is worse than that of the fans they are dealing with and if they are out of order it is perfectly legitimate to complain. But for me, the problem is not so much the stewards but the rules they are required to enforce. Requiring fans to sit is a nonsense. We are left with the legacy of a massive over-reaction to the dreadful tragedy at Hillsborough which, in itself, was caused by a set of circumstances which were completely avoidable. The physical presence of seats prevents the kind of crowd surges which were common in the "good old days" but these could easily have been controlled by more barriers on the terraces and by sectioning off areas of terracing and controlling numbers in those areas. And in reality, the crowd surges rarely caused injury beyond minor scalding from a cup of spilled Bovril. With seats in place, standing does not represent a risk and therefore there is no good reason why people should not stand provided that they are not standing in front of others who wish to sit. If fans at the back wish to stand or jump up and down then they should be allowed to do so. As far as safety is concerned, the seating actually introduces greater risk in my view. Everyone is now channelled into often steep stair cases in order to exit the grounds and one person tripping could cause a significant incident. With the old terracing you descended on a wider front. The terraces had other advantages. Those who wanted to sing could group together far more easily with the result that there was better atmosphere in the grounds. It was also more social as you could move around to speak with mates you might have spotted in the crowd. And the stewards? What stewards? There was no need for stewards on the terracing because there were no silly rules to enforce. Their role was simply to stop folk getting on to the pitch If we want to get the soul back into British football it is time to put Hillsborough well and trully in the past and apply a bit of common sense at last. Bring back the terracing and bring it back soon whilst I am still physically capable of standing for 90 minutes.
  18. It is inevitable that even the best of strikers will miss sitters from time to time. Far from being fed up with the publicity, I would guess Adam is quite pleased with it as the publicity only draws attention to a wider public that he is a striker of a caliber you would not expect to miss such chances. Far from playing on his mind, he tucked away 2 important goals yesterday to demostrate that he is a striker on form. The fact is that Rooney is getting himself into goal scoring positions and as long as his team mates can deliver good balls to him he is going to score with some regularity. He will not bother about missing a few and neither should we.
  19. This has been raised a few times before and is certainly an area of play where we are particularly weak. Since Munro stopped taking throws there has been nobody who seems to be able to throw the ball any kind of distance. It really is pathetic and should be worked on. The lack of movement of players not making themselves avialable is also very poor - it would be interesting to see some statistic of how often we lose possession directly at a throw in. We are also poor in defending throw ins. There is rarely a player in position to challenge the thrower for when they receive the ball back after a simple straight throw.
  20. A couple of months ago we would have been really disappointed not to win against St Mirren but given the injury situation and suspensions to Tokely and Munro, this is really a pretty good result. Having said that, this is the type of game we really have to win if we are to hold on for a top six finish. It is a tough run in to the split with the last 6 games against sides likely to finish in the top 6. There are promising signs that we could get back to winning ways but it won't be then end of the world if we don't. We need to be realistic and accept that a top 6 finish, whilst still very possible , is probably unlikely. If we end in the top 6 it would be an absolutely brilliant acheivement given the injuries we have had all season. At the start of the season I would have been happy for us to finish 11th and to be honest, even given our high placing at the moment, anything better than 10th at the end of the season will still represent a good performance overall.
