Who will be the 3 candidates?

Caley Thistle have not approached anyone regarding the position and will draw up a list of the three most favourable candidates after today's meeting (22-Jan-09) at Caledonian Stadium.

Inverness director of football Graeme Bennett claims the Highland club will consider all applicants regardless of nationality or experience.

He said: ?The process for the replacement of the manager has started and that will be ongoing.

?There has already been a fair bit of interest in the position and we are not ruling anybody in or out.

?We have an open book, there is no set criteria, we are just seeing who is available and we will take it from there.

?We are going to sit down and decide who we would like to speak to.

?We have not spoken to anyone about the job yet ? it is up to the board to do that.

?We have gathered some information over the last 24 hours on prospective candidates and the sooner we can arrange interviews the better.?

So if today's board meeting is going to result in three names being put forward then I think they may be:

1) J Robertson

2) A Knox

3) A N Other

I don't think we will see Terry Butcher or Ossie Ardiles on that short-list of candidates being invited for an interview at the club....

Interestingly these are the latest odds and the bookies don't often get it wrong (but where do they get some of these names):

John Robertson 2

Terry Butcher 10/3

Barry Wilson 5

Archie Knox 6

Ossie Ardilles 9

Gordon Chisholm 9

Willie Donnachie 10

Kevin MacDonald 11

Derek McInnes 12

Steven Pressley 14

Eric Black 14

Neale Cooper 16

Colin Calderwood 16

Bruce Rioch 16

Chris Sutton 16

Charlie Christie 16

Stevie Frail 18

Maurice Malpas 20

Colin Hendry 20

Alex Rae 20

Jim Duffy 22

Derek Adams 25

Duncan Shearer 33

Craig Brown 33

Steve Paterson 33

Bobby Williamson 33

What I find a bit strange is that this time there seems to be so many serious candidates, yet when Brew was taken back it seemed it was only him and Warnock, :rotflmao:

last time out really was a **** take. the shortlist was very short.about 1 i reckon. they even had time in their busy selection process to have a wee meeting with the fans to hear our views. very different this time.!

cant believe now i wasted the petrol going to that meeting.

worth thinking about :rotflmao:

I remember my old PE teacher in IHS tell us Kevin Macdonald is the only person he knew off getting sent off in a game of...........Badminton :rotflmao:

thats a sign of a real competitor.

i think i could be persuaded if he were a candidate

I think they should consider Kevin McDonald from Aston Villa.

What a record he has got.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_MacDonald_(footballer)

I dug out the Caley v Leicester City programme from March 1983 and both Kevin MacDonald and Ian Wilson were in the Leicester City side that evening (Nicky Walker was in the stand) as well as a certain G. Lineker (wonder whatever happened to him.... :rotflmao: )

I reckon we'll be down to a shortlist of Knox, McDonald, Robertson and Wilson and from that will be chosen manager and No2

The club has spoken to Sutton yesterday also but I don't think you are far off there....

As with thee poll, our shortlist seems to be Robertson, Knox, Sutton, Ardilles and Malpas.

I would say Malpas, Sutton and Ardilles are unlikely.

Knox has great experience, contacts, knowledge. A strong candidate.

Robertson is a man manager and a trainer, what the club needs. A strong candidate.

I would be happy with either, and I have a feeling it will be Knox

I would also be delighted with eitheir Robbo or Knox, hope to god that neitheir Sutton, Ardilles nor Malpas get the job though!

Was reading in the rumours section that McCall was the new favourite for the job, got a huge fright until I realised it was from the sun! :rotflmao:

Surely, the number 2 is picked by whoever gets the Managers job, and not by the club.

Knox with Wilson as assistant? As he's 61, why not Knox with Robertson as assistant?!

Its known that people who live in Tokyo lose 76% of their marbles. Us in the the much more agreeable Fukuoka, are unanimous that Knox and Wilson should be the pairing.

Tichy Black may be Back but Scarlet has recovered from his 3-week computer disaster and is also catching up on the news.

What a shock I got when I noted that Brew was ex-Brew.

Will be surprised if Robbo was appointed--too much pushing from him which, if he was being seriously considered, would not be completely necessary surely. However, he does show faith and passion.......

Ardiles ...no. Barely knows where Inverness is --said it was cold but he can only attest to that if he has actually been there. We also need someone who is steeped in Scottish Football , knows the game and has contacts. Where would Mr Ardilles get his new players from and how good a Manager was he in foreign climes and how long would he take to get acclimatised to the cold North , the players and the prospects etc. Methinks he would require more time than Caley Thistle can afford at the moment to get a real handle on what he has bitten off and would have to chew.

We don't need a six month semi-wonderkid but a solid prospect for the future. Bear in mind that Managers come and go in these times with repetitive rapidity also.

Back to holding bated breath.

Still no odds being posted so I guess the bookies reckon the decision has been made - maybe IHE was onto something.... :rotflmao:

McDonald is out of the running.

Too expensive and Villa on verge of success

You're in Fukuoka now? Happy days in Umebayashi, many years ago - still following their J-League progress, such as it is, but it provides a lift occasionally when my other teams fail, as my main one seems to do so spectacularly often these days. Still, someone may be able to turn it around - I haven't a clue who the board's shortlist will be but, for all I'd like to see Robbo back, I just think there may be too many burnt bridges there. Hope not. Ardiles? Nut. Wouldn't be amazed to see Bazza in the frame somewhere, but I reckon they'll surprise us. Again.

Excellent article but quite literally the whole thing is no different to what a lot of us are saying or have said on various managerial threads
