I went to the Killie game on Saturday with my son and decided to sit in the Main Stand for a change so that we would get a better view of the game. £42 is a fair bit to pay for a day out during a recession but seemed worthwhile. We queued at the first turnstile and asked for one adult plus one under-16 ticket - "sorry, don't take cash, try turnstile 4" was the answer when we eventually reached the front of the line. Went to turnstile no.4 and joined the queue there - "sorry, no under 16 tickets, can only give you a £21 concession". So we decided to go to the North Stand as normal. On our way to the far end of the North Stand, two very kind lads (who we'd never met before) offered us spare complimentary tickets. So we got in to the game for free! Sorry ICT - you lost our £42 on Saturday thanks to your Main Stand turnstile ticketing policies which seem to act as barriers rather than entry points to the game!

We normally buy season tickets but decided to pick and choose our games this season after the shocking discipline we witnessed at home games last season - players sent off, penalties conceded and own goals scored. Well our team played a fabulous opening 20 minutes and showed some urgency after the break. Overall we were second best to Killie and fortunately got an ill-deserved 1-1 draw (although I accept that our new team will take time to gel - and some of our new guys look promising). And yes - deja vu - our team gave away a penalty (brilliantly saved by Ryan) and finished the game with 10 men after a bout of routine stupidity by one of our players!

Meantime, the Main Stand was sparsely filled and the North Stand less than half full. There were 3,012 people at the match on a beautifully sunny August day. Thankfully Celtic are here next otherwise we could expect a crowd of less than 3,000. So ICT, if you want better crowds, rethink your pricing/turnstile policy - and forcefully remind our players that the ill-discipline that results in things like sendings off and penalties being conceded will well and truly scunner your fans, prevent you from winning games, disillusion your supporters and lead to lower attendances!!

At least I didn't feel compelled to ask for my money back on this occasion!!

Have you considered that if you had actually paid to get into the game it just might go some way to improve things on and off the park. The club needs every penny it can get its hands on this season. We as supporters must do everthing we can to maximise its income.

If the team perform week in week out, like they did against Hearts, then fans will want to watch. I was thoroughly entertained and very proud of the effort and determination that earned another vital point. The small crowd of loyal supporters will surely increase ,if the doubters can be convinced of a genuine desire to win.

I'm goin To miss a the game on Saturday. The first time I've missed back to back games for over 2 years. And I'm gutted. What's that say about how the team have played?

I'm seriously considering going to Arbroath I need my fix. Can't wait for Motherwell. Going to try get a large group heading down on the bus.

Also absent from the Ceptic game this weekend but at present im more than happy with the start we've made, was anxious given the bodies we had lost but we've shown some real metal in the first few games and a real sign that our youth development is making great progress.

Will be back for Motherwell and looking forward to it.

Adrian Durham said on the radio the other evening that being a fan means you follow your team through thick and thin because of the emotional connection.

After today's embarrasing home crowd, does this mean that we simply lack 'real' fans?

It it makes anyone feel any better, County took 82 to Dens today. Just thought I'd add this.

I'd agree I know a lot of season ticket holders, but a lot of them wear Celtic tops, in pe or are more passionate about the premiership than us.

Il openly say I followed rangers for years because my dad is a rangers but I got a caley season ticket off my own back and I havnt looked back and now I despise everything about rangers. (the rangers) I know many that are the same.

Inverness has alot on this weekend with bands playing (e.g. status quo, runrig).

That news made me feel a bit better anyway. Crikey that's a poor support!

That is not exactly what we need - crowing about the Tinks away ??

Quite happy to slag them off at every opportunity!

I have to say that I watched the game today with four people from Inverness who all supported Rangers but at least I could take off ma ICT shirt (becos of the searing heat) and earn some free Kilkenny at the Irish bars ?

What on earth are you on about? I'd say there was about 200-300 there today, plus Derek Riordan.

EDIT: You got your info from my mate on Twitter who was joking with you when you asked him the travelling support but as long as it made you feel better.

Celtic may have beaten us 4 -2 on the park but their supporters beat us 10 - 0 on the terraces. Surely we must have the worst home fans in the league and you can see how badly it affects the team; they are scared stiff of making mistakes and receiving a torrent of abuse from the so-called support. In the match thread I said I think the players lack confidence and to be honest, a significant part of that is that they are worried about getting abuse when things don't go right. The crowd do precious little to lift the team but plenty to let the team know that they do not meet the fan's often unrealistic expectations.

Take two examples from today. One of the guys sat next to me got to his feet after Celtic's 2nd goal and let rip with a tirade of vitriolic abuse aimed at Terry Butcher. When we scored our goals he simply sat in his seat and didn't even clap. He generally mumped and moaned about what was on display and never once as far as I was aware clapped or uttered any words of encouragement. And amongst the general moaning behind me were comments during a passage of play when we were keeping possession well but not making progress. "F***ing do something with it" was the shout from behind. No sooner had that advice been given than Morrison, I think it was, tried to put the ball over the defence for Andrew Shinnie to run on - it nearly came off but was well cut out and the same voice shouts out, "for f***'s sake don't give it away!"

Just what do these people want and expect? We're not Barcelona and if we try anything other than the safe ball it will come off less often than it doesn't. Today we were up against the league champions and their side is stuffed with internationals and sometimes balls don't find their intended target because very good defenders read the situation and do their job well. Let's give them credit for that. And let's give our team credit for trying to play football against Celtic rather than being boring like County and simply stopping them playing and having no ambition.

Do these people ever stop to think about what the impact is on the players? Presumably not. How do they think that players feel when they hear more noise in shouts of frustration and abuse when they make an error than they hear in applause and shouts of encouragement when they play a 30 yard pass inch perfect to a team mate? Well, it doesn't make them feel confident and appreciated that's for sure. Believe me, I get just as frustrated as anyone, even angry, when players make basic errors but I respond by silently cursing to my self, rolling my eyes or shaking my head or the like - I don't voice my feelings at the player but will make a point of clapping and shouting encouragement when they next get the ball and use it well.

This thread is about small crowds and the concern that some folk no longer come to watch the team. To be honest, it would be a good thing if some who still come along on a Saturday afternoon started staying away. That might mean that those who actually support the team might have more of an influence on the mood of the crowd as a whole and the team will respond to a more positive atmosphere in the ground. That in turn might encourage others to start supporting the team and take the place of the moaners.

Now I expect there will be those who will have a go at me saying that they pay good money and can expect to see better entertainment and have a right to make their views known. I would agree with that but the way to do that is to express your views on this forum or directly to the club if you are that angry. On match days, the players really need the support and encouragement of the fans and it really makes me angry that so many who turn up seem to do their best to abuse and discourage the team. They fail to understand that far from venting their anger at what they see as the problem, they are actually part of the problem themselves.

I think I am right in saying there are signs at the gates referring to "home support". That is for peope who will support the home team, not people who apparently want the home team to win but who abuse rather than support them. Perhaps there should be signs at the gates directing those who are going to shout abuse at the home team to the South Stand because the only team that benefits from the way some of the paying customers in the main and North stands behave is the away team.

Apologies for the length of this rant but I really am getting well and truly p***ed off by the behaviour of some of the people who pay to watch our team but who undermine the confidence of the team and ruin the matchday experience for others. By all means criticise the team as much as you want on this forum but for Christ's sake, on a match day give the team what they so desparately need - support! How f***ing difficult is that?

Very well said DD. These "supporters" spoil the day out for those unlucky to sit near them. I have to listen to the same constant girning in the North Stand - that's why I much prefer the atmosphere with our supporters at away games.

Spot on D. D. couldn't aggree with you more and that is why a lot of real fans stay away from games.

Is it any wonder Butcher loses the head with the crowd when at home.....The only real backing the team gets seems to come from these great travelling supporters we get when away from home, few they may be but they get behind our players and the noise of encouragement (not abuse) is always audible and great to hear. I always wish I was with them.

When on rare occasions i get to home games I am always dismayed by what I dont hear and further dismayed by what i do hear.

Great post D.D. I hope it hits home.................but I very much doubt it will because of the mentality of certain idiots. They should be in a section of their own, preferably under the Kessock Bridge.
