Celtic do the huddle, West Ham blow bubbles and I think Chelsea throw celery but what can ICTFC do for a tradition? I mean to be honest the ICT fans don't get noticed very much on things like Sky Sports or even Sportscene, so maybe we should get something that eventually the fans will find familiar and maybe that would go with a club anthem?

I can see where the lad is coming from though. There are things certain clubs do that have become 'tradition' to do. Such as blowing bubble etc.

Why not a conga? Get a massive one going just as the players are coming out at the strat of match, home or away. They more its done the more people will join each week. I think its a great idea

Scotty is right about tradition but as a gimmick a conga sounds a good idea, put the stewards in a tizzy though they will either join in or spoil the party.

Ooooooooooooohh!

Its funny ... was chatting with a friend who also supports Toronto FC the other day, and we got onto this subject .... about how traditions evolve, or just "are", and how many of those traditions are intrinsically linked to, or emerged because of, rivalries .... 

 

When Toronto entered MLS, the league tried to manufacture a rivalry between the club and Columbus Crew, which was our nearest geographical rival ... about 430 miles away (or an 8 hour drive including an international border crossing). It worked for a while, and with Columbus cops tasering a few TFC fans on our first visit, then a 2500 strong away support heading there for another visit, the "Trillium Cup" as the 3 or 4 matches a year between the sides became known was starting to turn into a 'traditional' rivalry, and one which the league perpetuated by making it a tradition that we would play each other on the opening day of the season. However, the minute Vancouver entered the league, Columbus became irrelevant, the rivalry was TFC and Vancouver despite there being 2000 miles between the sides, and then when Montreal came into the league that was it .... 313miles, another Canadian team, and a French speaking one at that ... instant rivalry and sporting hatred that spilled over from every other sport into football ..... and now, the league makes it a "tradition" for these 3 sides to play each other in the first few opening games of the season ... For TFC, the league starts on March 2nd away to Vancouver then there is a home game (against Kansas) before another away game, this time in Montreal. The club are giving all season ticket holders a free ticket for this away game, and laying on 20 buses, with supporters groups also organising alternative bus, train or air travel too ..... hoping to go to this one, should be a great day out !

 

I dont think we really have any traditions at TFC yet, the club is only 6 years old after all, but if we did, the closest might be the "march" to the game. There are two main supporters groups, who have a bit of a rivalry with each other, and the pre-game pubs are reasonably close together. Before most games, but especially the big ones, the groups meet in the car park near to the closest pub and march to the ground together singing, chanting and waving flags, banners etc .... it is a lot of fun .... The only other thing may be how the national anthems are handled ... for the first few seasons, the club had someone in to sing the Canadian and American anthems at MLS games (anthems before game are an MLS requirement), but in the Canadian Championship or Concacaf Champions league there is no such requirement so it went straight to the game. Fans started singing an acapella version of the Canadian anthem at these games, and now, at MLS games the PA system is switched off for the Canadian national anthem and it is led by fans in the supporters sections with the American anthem still being sung by someone other than fans!

 

I also looked round the rest of MLS to see what bizarre 'traditions' exist and, there are a few, most relating to a particular club's history, like Chicago fans who have to rub a stone that came from their original ground, or Seattle fans who also do a march to the game, but the best has to be Portland !!! They have "Timber Joey" as a mascot, and this tradition started way back in the 70s when they were in a lower set of leagues, but continues to this day ... From the website: "After each goal scored by the Timbers at JELD-WEN Field, a slice is cut from the victory log behind the north goal and celebrated in a cloud of sawdust and cheered by the roar of a chainsaw and thousands of voices. The log slab is then paraded through the stands, and ultimately, presented to its rightful owner – the goal scorer – in a post-game ceremony." ...... I can picture IHE doing that one !!!!!

IIRC I remember Butcher saying a while back that ICT do do a huddle kind of thing, but they do it in the changing rooms.
