Towns without a football team

Featured Replies

I must admit Dingwall was my first thought  :015: :015: :015:

A quick glance at the grey bits on the road atlas suggests East Kilbride and Glenrothes but also:

Irvine, Helensburgh, Alexandria, Grangemouth and loads of places near Glasgow that just run into each other, like Blantyre.

All bigger than places like Montrose and Cowdenbeath which already have clubs, which begs another question: what is the smallest place to actually have a league club?

Can't be bothered looking it up but I bet somebody will  :014:

Think the smallest place with a team is Brechin.

Scary thing is I didn't have to look that up...  :006:

Brechin population..................approx 8,000

Dingwall      "        ..................approx 5,000

Gretna        "        ..................approx 3000

Towns without a team..........Oban (8,200)

                                            Peebles (8,000)

                                            Musselburgh(22,000)

Oh and I forgot Fort William pop..11,000

if your including fort william then nairn needs a mention as well...

Don't forget Kirkwall, Lerwick & Stornoway....

probably just the new towns glenrothes and east kilbride.

i think clyde are the only team without a town

Another thing for Naelifts to feckin moan about  :001:

Wishaw - population about 30,000.

I suppose the residents just troop along to watch their neighbours Motherwell on Saturdays, similar to what the good folk of Dingwall will be doing soon if they want to see something better than 2nd Division football.

That would be nice if it was true, trickle more than troop I would think  :015: :015: :015:

Given that Motherwell attract around 5000, I reckon we all know where the others go  :007:

Auchtermuchty - Kinlochsheil - Braemar -  :012:

Now your taking the p Johndo. Kinlochshiel hasn't a bit enough population to make a football team let alone support it.

if your including fort william then nairn needs a mention as well...

tell me if ive missed something but isnt that whats nairn countys for

You may or may not have missed something chris. The question was: What are the largest Scottish towns not to have a league football team?

Everyone has assumed that SPL / SFL is the league in question.

What about Thurso

Cumbernauld? Does it have a team? Pop 50,000-ish

Still East Kilbride is the winner approx 74,000

Cumbernauld has Clyde.

And they deserve each other!
