Accies away Feb2026

Late Show v Accies

We are the stars of the late show this Saturday as we face Hamilton Accies at Broadwood. Not only that, but it's the 'get your Gaelic phrasebook out time' as we are on the telly. BBC Alba, with the game kicking off at 17:30. Accies tales of woe are ongoing, we all know how that feels, the old one step forward, two steps backward routine. However they have still maintained a level of competitiveness, albeit not as combative as they were at the start of the season. This could be a spanner in the works fixture with Accies League position not indicative of their form on the pitch due to points deduction for breaches of regulations. That's now a total of 21 points deducted this season for breaches of the rules. However, we should be on a high after our more recent form and should be kicking on from here until the end of the season.

Our goals came from Alfie Stewart, Paul Allan and Alfie Bavidge. New loanee Ben Brannan came on for the final few minutes after his surprise, but welcome return from Kilmarnock.

Our form has picked up at just the right time after the hectic January schedule saw us drop points and drop out of the Scottish Cup to Spartans. The Loss was the second on the bounce having lost to Stenny 7 League games ago. The 6th game was defeat at Montrose by 2-1. A draw at Cove slowed the process before we kicked on again beating East Fife (0-2) & Alloa (3-1). A hard fought draw at Palmerston next where we led twice before being pegged back in a quality 2-2 draw. Last week we beat East Fife comfortably 3-0.

Ben Brannan looks like a direct replacement for Ross Millen who it is believed may have fallen foul of some form of internal discipline after his red card at Montrose.

Jake Davidson has joined The Spartans FC on loan until the end of the season, subject to Scottish FA clearance as he continues to strengthen after his serious knee injury in November 2024.

ImageAccies last game was a goalless draw at New Central Park, Kelty on January 31st. No game last week due to Stenhousemuir playing Falkirk in the Scottish Cup. Dylan McGowan has been appointed Assistant Manager and will be Darian MacKinnon's right hand man for the remainder of the season.

The two defeats over the last six League1 fixtures started at the Caledonian Stadium where the Caley Jags avenged an early season loss to Accies (3-1) by thumping them 4-0. The second loss was a 4-1 defeat to QotS. The first was a home win over Alloa (1-0), then two wins over Peterhead (2-3) and Cove 2-0 before the draw at Kelty.

Accies squad has changed somewhat since the start of the season as expected given their predicament.

Loan in: Kai Smutek, defender; Gregor Crookston, defender (Both Hearts). Loan Ended: Bobby McLuckie (Hearts)

From BBC Sport

Hamilton Academical have received a six-point deduction for failing to pay players' wages on time, their third points penalty this season.

In December, the League One club were docked nine points for their failure to successfully acquire a bronze-level Scottish FA club licence by 31 March.

That came after losing six points in October for paying trialists and fielding amateur players while under a transfer embargo.

The accumulated loss of 21 points leaves Accies second bottom of the table on 17 points, three above Kelty Hearts and two behind Cove Rangers.

The latest breach relates to not paying players on time, and in full, on 31 December 2025.

That was a hard fought win. The first half was relatively comfortable but the second was much tougher. The table looks much better tonight than it did this morning.

Poor game with a , just about deserved win. Too many players not at their best and seemingly unable to pass to each other especially late in the second half.

Still, a vital win and a win next week would put us in a strong position.

By the way, the playing surface looked and played, dreadfully at times. These surfaces really need to be banned.

Amongst others, but I thought Zimba was awful. Always on his erse for such a big lad. Needed somebody up front who could hold the ball and play someone in.

Should have been hooked at half time, simply a passenger.

You're right about the pitch, it is hard enough playing on a 3G pitch when you normally play on a proper grass surface most of the time, but this looked well past its best more like 1G.

Hamilton are really the fourth best team in this league, results wise, and often a bogey team, so winning away on a February evening, without conceding a goal or even a shot on target is good enough for me

A terrific goal from a set piece...Bavidge is lethal from 6-8 yards out [a skill not to be sneezed at]

Stand out players for me? our two centre backs, plus Brannan, Stewart, Macleod, Robertson. and a nice cameo from Willox. Not Zimba's day, but everyone is allowed an off day if they have contributed in other games

BTW I thought Accies No.9 looked very decent [and should have scored] and their No.27...depending on what happens at the end of the season, maybe we should be sniffing around them

Today’s wish list:

1 Beat the Accies - job done ✔️

2 Montrose to beat Stenny - ok I’ll take the draw ✔️

3 Beat the English in the pointy ball game - gubbed ‘em ✔️

4 Tranmere to end their losing streak - Boss kidda ✔️

5 Canaries to reach 5th round - On The Ball City ✔️

Oh just a perfect day! Cheers Lou for the perfect song for today 😁

Just thawing out and watching it back. I’ll sub Queens and County losing for nos 4 and 5.

Paul Allan MoM for me.

It’s points that matter at this stage of the season. Performances are a bonus.

If we win the league by grinding out 1-0 wins I won’t be complaining.

Well I might forget that sometimes as I am greedy and want good performances too but at the end of the day promotion is what counts and what the record books will hopefully show come May.

Dreadful (dangerous ) pitch, poor game# - Bottom line for me is, this is THE victory that leads to unstoppable promotion as division champions.

# Fair play to both set of players attempting to play on that surface and weather yesterday. The conditions were quite simply hazardous and the opportunity to display any skill or quality were nil. This led directly to the poor fare on display.

As has been said, quite simply these surfaces should have been banned by the authorities. But we all know they won’t. - Only a matter of time when some player suffers a serious injury on this surface. Hope the players union sues the SPFL.

I actually think some of our fans would prefer we play like Brazil and lose ratger than grind out a win sometimes!

Me Im delighted with 3 points and otger results going our way. Id take the same next week at fortress PSG Sarens. A real opportunity to open a real gap. Tbf if it wasnt for the deduction it would be thrre already. Well done to the lads

Well done to the team and the travelling supporters yesterday.

Keep on keeping on for the final push - how good would it be to go straight up without any dreaded play off games?

Oli Shaw. Has been at Killie and County amongst others.

He is top scorer in League1 this season with 13 strikes.

  • In comparison

  • Bavidge 8 League goals

  • Zimba 7 League goals

Well done lads. Good win on a pitch which looked awful.

Great couple of hours TV viewing, with the rugby on one set and our game on Alba on the other. I was bouncing between the two sets like a yoyo at times. Happy days.

Does beating England make up for losing to the mighty Italy? Probably? Definitely? Not to fussed about the Rugby tbh 😉

More important than who they were playing was that Scotland produced a great performance after having been totally clueless the week before. Restored some pride and hope.

I had the rugby on TV, and the football on the laptop for its first half. Its second half was pretty anxious, knowing that just one slip could level the scores. A poor game, but an away win was very welcome against a team that would have been 4th in the table if all had been well off the pitch.
