STV have some really interesting stats section for the football spod (like me!) The latest looks at the prem season as a whole. As I thought, the stat that really stands out is our failure to score a single goal from a direct free kick situation. In our defence, no team scored more than 2 goals in the whole season from free kicks, which I find astonishing. Assuming 2 direct free kicks per game in scoring positions, 2/76 shots at goal seems pretty appalling, never mind 0/76!!! http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/276915-stats-zone-the-story-of-the-scottish-premiership-in-201314/ Is the Premiership technical ability so low that we can't get a couple of guys, with practice, to hit the target more often than that? You might think so, but actually the best in the world don't fare all that much better - conversion rates in EPL and La Liga look like they are around 4%. I'll not be getting out my seat in a hurry next time Greg Tansey lines one up from 20 yards next season....
  2. What has all this to do with Yogi and momentum ???
  3. Everyone else is irrelivent, you support your club and your team, your local team. No matter how big or small, its your club.
  4. Well said CaleyD. Some of the rubbish games on TV from south of the border are as entertaining as watching paint dry - and that includes the Premier League. Why do so many people run down the game in Scotland - I've seen numerous cracking encounters at the stadium and hope to see many more
  5. Not much point in me trying to tell you that I think we actually have a fairly decent product in Scottish Football then?

You need to get out and work a bit more.
  7. Some of those players would be rather out of our budget I'm afraid and I wouldn't touch El Hadji Diouf with a ten foot pole! We should sign the other Danny Devine though, just for the giggles!
  8. What was the reason then?
  9. We are constantly told it's the "Best League in the world", we are subjected to so much coverage of english football, we are told it's the only league that matters, everything else is just not as good. Some people believe it. I'd rather watch Motherwell v Hibs than Aston Villa v Fulham any day, at least it (may) affects a team I care about. Each to their own I guess.
  10. I've often been very skeptical over the standard of the Scottish game compared to the English tiers. I know it was only a friendly, but I saw ICT play Charlton in the summer and I thought Charlton were rubbish. Even more so when you consider that the Charlton players were probably on about fives time what our players are on a week. I know Coventry are in disarray at the moment, but thought when we played them, they were hopeless too. The day we beat Charlton, Dundee United beat Wigan. We matched Real Valladolid at the stadium as well and they'd just been relegated from La Liga. Obviously the English Premier League is one of the elite leagues in the world and a far higher standard than ours, but I'm unconvinced that we're that far behind the Championship, if at all. I can't remember where I read it, but I'm sure I read once that there was a study done to find which was the most entertaining league in Europe and the English Premier League finished last, after all world class players can still he held in a bore draw. While the standard is not spectacular, I think what you get here is not bad at all entertainment-wise and the standard doesn't need to be high to see an exciting game.
  11. It's excellent we have a settled squad and don"t have to spend the close season searching for half a team as in the past, but a couple of new faces always freshens up a club and builds up excitement amongst fans. The best signings we could make would be Shinnie, Mckay, Meekings etc. on extended deals.
  12. I don't really understand why people want to know if Butcher did this or did that during his time here because it has gone. Terry Butcher has turned this club into a top six side atm and whatever he was up to behind the scenes he did a brilliant job. Got us back up first time of asking, got the club into the top six for the first time ever, had us looking at Europe rather than a relegation battle and almost got us to a cup final. Butcher has done this club far more good than he did harm but he wasn't perfect and had flaws which many has alluded to over his time with us. I think he did love it here but with his reputation restored he was always going to leave to bigger things at sometime and yes i didn't think it would be Hibs but they are a bigger club with more resources than us and so i don't resent him for that. What i do resent him for is his immediate lack of respect for the club that gave him his redemption and the fans that loved him for taking the club on to a new level. That will always tarnish the good work he did here but does it really matter to find out more of whether he wanted out by applying for loads of jobs. It didn't change what happened in his 4 years and its not going to change anything now as he is well gone. He ruined his own image with his disrespect and that should be that we should move on and enjoy how ironic it is that everything he did and said when he moved have seen him eating those words big time. So well done Terry you may get that success Hibs were wanting by winning promotion in 2 or 3 seasons.
  13. Rob McLean eh? High praise indeed. Who next? The Dalai Lama?!
  14. Considering the price to watch football in Holland and Germany are we to assume that players earn much less than those in Scotland? I doubt it somehow.

England because the seethe level at commentators and news channels in Scotland will reach critical mass and lead to a unanimous Yes vote in September. Oh, and they're our good neighbours.
