  1. Posted this on P&B Derek Adams was clearly an excellent manager for County. He took them over in the seaside leagues and lead them into the top six of the SPL, with a couple of league wins and a cup final on the way. County's club culture before Adams took over was heavily influenced by Alex Smith, a negative emphasis of performance over results and the Largs-speak of passing football, liking 'wee strikers' etc. Adams focussed on achievement and built an excellent group of players which County's ascent to the SPL was based on. If you want to critically examine his tenure then he built his title winning team on solid, dependable First Division-winner players. He built his team around Munro, Brittain, Vigurs, Gardyne, McMenamin - it was really a triumph of experience, organisation and solidity over any innovative team-building or tactics. Nothing wrong with that of course, the objective is to win the league and they did that by miles. I'd compare it to the Caley team that John Robertson took to the First Division title - he signed Barry WIlson and David Bingham, both experienced at that level and tightened up, improved organisation and we bagged the title. The period where Adams impressed me as a manager was when he rebuilt his side in the January 2013 window. He'd shown that he could put together an organised First Division side and do OK in the SPL but in signing Ikonomou, Sproule, Wohlfarth etc he freshened up his side and took them into the top six. It showed that he could operate outside the markets he'd used previously. Where he fell down was that he couldn't build a sustainable team the wayhe did in 2011-12 in that way, leading to the mass intakes of the last couple of windows. To me, it was reminiscent of the business Livingston did in the seaons before they went down, everything bought in a panicked way, without great thought as to an overall plan. Adams' character and personality has also come under scrutiny. Leaving aside what opposition fans think of the man I think his manner may have contributed to some of the problems County had last season and this. I've always thought that a sniping negative manager can set the wrong tone for a club and that positivity is important. You have to assume Adams' didn't say the same things to the players that he did to the press but there was often a negative feeling around the club. Adams obviously demanded high standards but part of that is dealing with failure and perhaps he didn't do that in a way that inspired his players. While I appreciate that some of the players carping about him on Twitter were binned by him, I've never seen former players rejoice over a managers sacking like that before, and I've also thought that some of the transfer dealings were a bit strange. Grant Munro started five games in a row last season and was then released to sign for Brora, the club captain? County went on to look very weak in central defence last seaon (and this). Munro is too much of a gent to say anything though. From a fan's perspective, I'll miss him, he's exactly the sort of person you want managing your local rivals. Hopefully County don't go for some meh appointment and go for Butcher, if only for the derbies, and the LOLtastic relegation.
  2. The first time in five games that Adams has been quiet. Sitting at home yesterday with his dad and cat, Staggiepuss, he thought 'How would I have explained a 4-0 defeat? I would have blamed Mark Brown for failing to save 2 easy penalties. Mark may have only saved one penalty in his professional career, but those were easy ones to save if you dive the right way and get down. On Monday I told the boys to watch Martin Canning. Well they certainly watched him score!! And that old carthorse Jason Scotland, where was Frempah? We play a player called Dingwall and he was no where near Scotland. And Celcer? Alka by name, effervescent by nature. Brittain takes a penalty, Alex Salmond could have done better. The referee - Willie Collum - even the Scotsman described him as 'the ever over-officious''........................................................''Dad, what should I have said? Dad where are you when I need you? I bet those irritating so and sos over the Bridge will parody me again....''
  3. Well if Stevie May can't save County, no-one can!
  4. Burnley - Man U also ended 0-0 ealier, and I liked the stat I heard. Di Maria cost £15m more than all the Burnley players put together. To clarify, all the Burnley players from their entire 132 year history!
  5. Only running at selected home games...next match it'll be at is St Johnstone. Details at http://ictfc.com/shoot-for-the-boot
  6. Another good performance and result. Team selection and tactics spot on. The only negative - we now have a dilemma when Warren is back. Who do we leave out? Doran doesn't deserve to lose his place. As the cliché goes, it's a good problem to have. Whatever Yogi and the players are doing on the training pitch is working. Keep it up!
  7. Just seen the highlights very happy indeed and the passing game is coming on. The issue we had is we didn't pass quick enough but judging by the 4 mins of highlights from yesterday and highlights of the other games the passing is quick and threatening but the movement is outstanding. I know im just watching it from the best part point of view but most people seem absolutely delighted by how we have played since the opening couple of matches and all i can say is I wish i was back in the highlands to renew my season ticket again. As for attendance Jim Spence gave it as 3830 and the BBC have given it that but i remember our crowds were in between 3500 and 4,000 for most in the first division and it always looked fuller than that so i think it was probably 2830 instead. Shame with the football on offer and what looked like a beautiful day but although it would be good for better attendances i'm a Fan and although i cant get to home games any more im proud to support officially the best club in scotland
  8. Nah! Nah! Sneckboy. Re your post # 74.....Not true! Would I do a thing like that now? Thinks--wow, Sneckboy noticed, maybe others did as well.... The pension to which I made a brief reference was the Canadian pension (which has always been uprated regardless of where one lives--Timbuctoo even) not the British one. Thanks for giving me an excuse to mention it again, though .
  9. I was about to ask if this had been our best start to a SPL campaign ever but last years was superior, just. This stage last year we had 4 wins and 1 draw (away to Celtic 2-2, our only conceaded goals) and a goal difference of +8, we then beat Killie away 2-1 before going down 1-0 away to Aberdeen. Our next 2 games are away to Partick and at home to St Johnston, 4 points from those and we'll have done better than last year, has to be a short term target. I've been really biting my lip this past couple of weeks about how impressed I've been for fear of jinxing it. Hughes hasnt totally won me over yet but the clean sheets are a major plus in that direction.
  10. It's how it looks. Yes again the authorities have managed to look as if they are bending over backward to help one or other of the Old Firm.
  11. Some great play and I was pleased we had great support for the team. The home crows was very POSITIVE yesterday!! Great to see Aaron play well despite a bloody nose though someone advised him it was modest compared to ones at Johnny Foxes. Thought Drapes was very good at the back. It gives us another option. I wonder if he might make a good centre forward when we need to change tactics? Tansey and Meekings both seem skilled at the long ball. On the basis Christie drops to the bench against Partick, we should have a very fast pair of wingers support Billy. Hopefully the international break will help him come back and we can chant 'Billy McKay, he scores when we want!' He is due to start scoring once the transfer window closes.
  12. Announcer said 2830, that's all I can attest to. Ach who cares mun!
  13. So with your season tickets what has it cost as a proportion of your season ticket costs out of interest?
  14. ...and an ICT record since last conceding a goal. Brill, Raven, Meekings, Warren, Shinnie and Draper, take a bow!!!
  15. NEVER thought we'd be able to match the start last season; superb. Bet the boys are disappointed to have a break next week. Headache for JH now: Williams, Doran, Christie, Watkins, Ross all pressing for attacking midfield - can only bode well!
  16. GOOOAAAALLLLL doran!!!!
  17. Accies 3-0 up on the Shadows now #KluivertForDingwall
  18. 3830 accordng to BBC ... but still not wonderful
  19. It would never have been tolerated in the Howden End.
  20. I worked it out on a pitch size of 115yds x 74yds, which would make it about 68.4 to the flag. I must have overestimated the couple of yards I allowed for "just off". I'd still need to be carried a minimum of 39yds to the tunnel.
