  1. And then change the name back to Caledonian FC, move the Stadium back to Telford Street, chuck the thistle off the badge, double the size of the Eagle and welcome back 6,000 pre merger refuseniks to the home crowd
  2. Apparently this wee stadium may just sneak into our budget.

Spot on RIG. Raven is better than most of the newcomers with the exception of Seedorf. To keep a player who wants to remain with the club on the bench when we are crying out for a decent left back is surely madness. He us still here and being paid so why on earth not play him. We seem to have adopted a policy of quantity not quality. We could have done without half the new signings and kept Raven and Fon Williams despite the latter's less than perfect performances on occasions. I'm afraid Ridgers doesn't fill me with much confidence and Calder just lacks the all round ability of Raven

All managers, even the best ones, sign the odd dud. That Said, a couple of matches whilst probably not match fit and undoubtedly not familiar with either his team mates or Scottish conditions is far too early to consign him to that category. The early signs may not be promising but he deserves to be given a chance.

Keep Raven until the Jan window, moving him to left back. Hopefully Tremarco will be fit by then to reclaim his attacking left back role. Then let Raven go if Seedorf is still producing the goods at right back.
  8. A few people getting their knickers in a twist here based on the mistaken belief that we expect to get Buckie's captain for free. What Robertson says is that we won't be paying "a substantial fee", implying that we would be happy to pay a modest fee - what that means in monetary terms I have no idea. No doubt we will want to get him on the cheap because we can't afford otherwise, but it seems wrong to criticise ICT for expecting him to be free. Meanwhile, Buckie's manager comes out with the rather ridiculous statement that they need a big fee because they'll have to sign 3 players to replace him. It would be better for all if the transfer fee negotiations took place in private.

It is all ticket Shirley but you and others can meet me in the Plough Inn before the game and tickets will be on sale for £8.00 and a double voddie and coke (Smirnoff NOT house).

For those that think time is up for Raven is the same not true of Warren who had an even poorer season last year? I don't think Raven would get back in at RB. Seedorf has impressed there but what about playing him (Raven) on the left and move Calder further forward? Chalmers hasn't looked great on the few times I've seen him and Clader has looked iffy defensively but reasonable getting forward to play crosses in.

Think when a squad is being rebuilt, it's always the case that not every signing may make an instant impact. I wasn't impressed with zsschuschen (forgive the spelling...) but maybe he just needs more time to bed in (having said that, I thought the same thing about Lopez & Boden..- shows you how much I know...!). I seem to remember a certain Billy McKay (County's new boy...aargh!) & Denzil Wyness were pretty sh*te when we first had them at the club?

I dont think we are struggling for players, The players we have just need game time to gell together. Raven is only contracted till the end of December, If he's not on Robbo's long term plans, why play him? Raven is a legend for his goal in the cup semi, but every footballer will have their great day ( mostly) he's had his, and i thinks Ravens time is up with us.
  13. FFS Charlie, you must be a bundle of fun at a party.....................

Totally agree with this. Defo need quality over quantity!

Sorry RiG, but the bit of your post I've underlined is simple unadulterated bull sh*t. I know that Don tried to recruit people (and did) after years of us - Don, Andy, Jack and myself - going to every game home and away to cover it, often at considerable cost and for precious little thanks. Do you know that a lot of the equipment used to give you highlights was bought by the people concerned? That they were paid not a single penny for their efforts? Got absolutely no freebies? Got hassle after hassle from people who really didn't want to be interviewed? Fought to get a better internet connection for the stadium so that we could broadcast highlights? And on a few occasions even paid their own petrol costs. Passwords? least of the problems. And then you tell us that we didn't want help? I'll tell you that I had actually tried to leave that media team so many times that Don and Andy were sick of hearing it because I was spending less and less time with family etc. I couldn't, simply because I could see on one on the horizon that would do the job and I didn't want yet more work foisted upon the rest of the team who are my mates. Don got new guys in and I went (to another unpaid, gladly volunteered matchday job) faster than snow off a dyke. Thanks for covering yourself with "maybe I've picked it up wrong etc." but that doesn't actually justify any of that rubbish. I'm raging that you can put utter tripe on this forum masquerading as considered opinion. It's not and a retraction would be nice. I'll wait.
  16. OK... a "fun thread" which probably articulates fantasies that a lot of football fans have indulged in from time to time. So let me lace it further with a bit of "fun devil's advocacy". At a time when inequality and poverty are high profile issues, how would you justify something which, among other things, would cause a small number of football players who are already paid above their realistic market rate to earn even further above that market rate? Rather than take steps which would increase inequality and doing nothing to address poverty, would the money not be better and more morally invested in bettering the lot of the less fortunate in society?
