Dennis Wyness plays his last ever game of professional football on Saturday assuming he is selected by Huntly at the grand old age of forty one. One of the most talented and entertaining players ever to wear our shirt. His cheeky step overs will live in the memory forever and there was seldom talk of a striking crisis when he was on our books in partnership with Iain Stewart, big Brian Thomson and others. Thanks for those great memories Denzil and enjoy your retirement from the game.

not to mention being an absolute gentleman.
  3. Maybe we should have tried that last season...
  4. Good Lord Kingsmills has somebody filled your glass????

He only played with Stewart a few times in 2000 and he was never at the club at the same time as Brian Thomson. He had his best partnerships with Paul Ritchie from 2001 until 2003 and then a purple patch in the SPL when he and Craig Dargo combined. Looking back he didn’t have the pace or power to make an impact as a striker at the top level but playing in the First division his touch and finishing ability elevated him to a different level. The guy was a joy to watch and fitted perfectly into our team at the time. The run we went on before Pele left in the winter of 2002 has to be some of the best football I’ve ever seen from us, bodying teams left!right and centre. Glorious.
  6. I've just caught up with this after a few days off line. We need to support Polly. He has great vision and energy, and can pick out great moves and passes. Of course, some don't come off, but that's not always down to him, and those that do are evidenced in his assist stats. I suspect we will lose him in the summer, but I really hope he stays and aids our promotion push next year. I think the same about Vigurs. Yes, some of his touches scare me as they could go wrong, and he needs to get a grip of his temperament, but he is a quality player who we could do with keeping.
  7. Well done boys. The pressure is all on the teams above us now - they must be dreading playing you. Keep on doing what you are doing and have fun. Proud to be a Caley Thistle fan. Hope Gary is ok.
  8. I love these Robbo late season run-ins a la 2004 but can we have it a wee bitty smoother next year please guv, I canna take much more!!!
  9. Doh - surely even non-Seers could have Feckin sensed that ?
  10. Well, Saturday's going to be fun! Whatever the result, good to be back in games with high stakes and some real drama about them.
  11. Another fine result and the dream lives on. However, now is where the real work begins with three games all of which we must win against more formidable full time opponents. It won't be easy but we can do this !
  12. We're going to win 1-0

My wife worked with his wife when he was at Hearts (we can forgive him for that!). We all lived in Dalgety Bay at the time. A great guy, and I really hope his future is successful.
  14. Go to matchday thread for further game news.

Ritchie and Wyness together were awesome and an absolute delight to watch - yup, no worries about our strikers back then. His last game for us was the final match played at the old Brockville, a great day tinged with the disappointing news of his departure - a true CaleyJags legend!
  16. Can we forget about the 'wee team' paranoia and focus on securing the three points we need to keep our faint hopes of an immediate return to the Premiership alive.
  17. Ok agreed it's not the best scenario but it's not any worse than playing on a Saturday with a game on Tuesday - it's still a 2 day gap between matches. With putting the 'one game at a time' hat on, it's good to have the extra rest day before travelling to Dumbarton as that is our next must-win game and we don't have to travel down the road to Dunfermline.
  18. This is what Scottish football needs again ... what is the problem with standing? Every TFC home game I have been to for the last 11 years has been in the same section at BMO Field (113) which has always been designated a supporters section and where flags, banners, standing and singing have been not only allowed but encouraged. This is in a stadium with upwards of 20,000 in attendance for most matches, where alcohol is served by the bucketload, and where this section is always full to capacity regardless of the other sections ... There are no official 'safe standing' seats like you might see in Germany (although that is coming for the front 5 or 6 rows) just regular seats like the TCS. In 11 years I have never seen an issue with standing other than 'tourists' who either have not been to games, or who normally sit elsewhere in the ground, bitching about why they cannot see for those standing when they do manage to acquire tickets in this section ... they are quickly pointed towards these signs that the club attached to the stairwells and also the same info printed on the tickets ! Even REAL Tourists visiting from out of town - including 3 sets of ICT supporters I have taken to TFC games in the past - know to stand, sing and enjoy the atmosphere ! If you enjoy you are fine, if you get out of line you are dealt with by security or the police. On every visit back to ICT I am disheartened by the atmosphere in the stands and also the threat hanging over supporters if they dare to try and make an atmosphere. Some may argue we have always had the 'sweetie rustlers' and yes we did, and in my area of the main stand I would likely have been tarred with that brush, but I know that both myself and those around me did try back in the day to get things going .... and nowadays when I visit I just tend to keep my mouth shut. (although I did get a warning at Xmas at the Livi game as discussed on another thread at the time). Threats of FBOs or criminal convictions as well as over officious stewarding and in some cases unsympathetic leadership teams at various clubs have sucked the absolute life out of games at many stadiums. Its another attempt to enforce a one-size-fits-all solution to a problem that does not exist on any great scale outside of the usual two suspects. Kenny Cameron has been vilified on here since he stepped down but I do know he had broached the standing issue with the SPFL and was very fan focused (to the point where you could simply drop by for a chat !). The document circulated may have been mandated by the SPFL, or by some change in the handbook requirements to have a published policy about just about anything, but it certainly appears that the relationship between club and fans has reverted from 'Together-Ness' to being one of 'Them and Us' that existed a long time ago and did no-one any good and another reason why we need a cohesive, coherent and effective supporters group like CJT V2.0
  19. Bu@@er, can't make it tomorrow. Also one of the 3 or 4 SPFL grounds I haven't managed to see ICT so they'd better win their playoff
  20. I don't agree with the public criticism that Polly gets, but can we please stop with the "hitting form at the right time" bahollicks....in reference to any player/team. The right time for a team to hit form is day one, if we'd done that then we would be in St Mirren's shoes right now. The idea that we've somehow been gearing up for a late push and it's all coming together nicely is, in the words of Stephen Fry, "@rse gravy of the worst kind".
  21. Liam Polworth tops the assist charts by 5 goals this season. Could he do more at times? Of course but so could this entire team. Has he found form just at the right time? Absolutely lets just all hope it's not to little to late. 1 Liam Polworth Inverness Caledonian Thistle 13 2 Ian McShane St Mirren 8 Lyndon Dykes Queen of the South 8 4 Ryan Williamson Dunfermline Athletic 7 Joshua Mullin Livingston 7 6 Raffaele De Vita Livingston 6 Kallum Higginbotham Dunfermline Athletic 6 Stephen Dobbie Queen of the South 6 9 Lewis Morgan St Mirren 5 10 Billy King Dundee United 4 Fraser Aird Dunfermline Athletic 4 Craig Sibbald Falkirk 4 Cameron Smith St Mirren 4 Iain Vigurs Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4
  22. I disagree with much of that. Whilst Vigurs yet again controlled the game, both he and Polworth have often played significantly better than they did against Dumbarton on Saturday. The difference was that against a rather more open Dumbarton side, we found a bit more space in front of Vigurs and Polworth, we created a few more chances and took them well. Oakley pulled the defence all over the place on Saturday whilst Austin found the space and the composure to score 3 goals. The big win was because we had far and away the best performance from the front men that I have seen all season.
  23. The most obvious answer is that Grant Munro is the best we have produced he managed to continually improve and make through the leagues and at different levels, then go onto captain our club he would go down as one of if not our best centre half we have ever had and lets not forget that goal he got against celtic in his last season, I think Harry Kane would be claiming that if he could. Captain, leader and decorated champion. Next would be Nick Ross just due to his overall work rate and contribution he made to the team through-out his time playing for the club not to mention THAT goal against Hearts he has to be number two. Christie would be next and probably had he stayed with us longer he could be the best however he left us after not very long in the first team. Lastly would be polworth, I mean if he left tomorrow would anyone really care, work rate questionable, attitude questionable, good at dead balls sometimes not exactly a player people could say has done much to make fans remember him either apart from his countless complaints at his teammates for messing up or time after time losing the ball and just standing there watching it instead of getting it back.
