The problem, as I understand it, is that whilst there's perfectly "safe" smoke bombs which are cool burning and don't emit flames or sparks, there's also lots of more dodgy products out there which do. You then have military grade stuff which are hot burning and a real fire/burn hazard and these are still available from some surplus stores. The issue for police/authorities is that if they don't have a blanket ban on all of them then you run the risk of someone inadvertently using something dangerous and/or needing a process for checking what is being allowed in. Aside from the fire/burn issue, none of these things are designed for use in a confined location....and whilst a football ground may not be seen as that, it doesn't offer people the ability to easily and quickly move away from the smoke if they suffer any respiratory problems. Again, most of them are "safe" insofar as they don't emit anything noxious, but not all of them are. Also, whilst looking into the subject earlier this season, I took a look at stadium regulations for a variety of clubs across Europe and every one I looked at listed Smoke Bombs etc as being a prohibited item. Using Google you can turn up just as many instances of fans being arrested, imprisoned and banned from matches/stadiums abroad as you see for the UK. Just having another Google search of the subject and it looks like dozens of cases have gone through the courts in the past 18 months....so it would seem there's a huge clampdown on their use. Personally, as much as I quite like seeing it, it's not worth the risk....either in terms of causing harm to yourself and others, or for the consequences of being caught.

But if you say we are replacing a Rangers reserve team reject and a player who couldn't get into a Championship side and was released a year before his contract ended it dosen't seem such a task to replace them does it? Thats what we signed when Andy and OTJ came on board.

After the season thats just passed i cant help but have total faith in Marsella and the management team when it comes to identifying players, the permanent signings we made all became key members of the team and all chipped in with some telling contributions despite their lack of experience at this level. All the lads coming in may be young and untested at this level as well but with some of the experienced heads around them coupled with the experience Terry and Mo bring to the floor as manager and assistant manager respectively i see no reason why these guys cant have the same impact.

I wonder if he's aware that Oldham has a very large Asian population....

On the face of it, that's a really uninspiring list of names when you look at the low level they have all been playing at and their general lack of experience. However, it speaks volumes that the fans here aren't raging about it (like many were last summer) now that we've seen how successful our management team have been in picking up gems from the bottom end of the market.

It never fails to amaze me how much people get drawn in by what is printed in the press. Direct quotes are often shortened or portrayed out of context in order to sensationalise them because journalists know that in doing so they generate conversations such as this which provide exposure and (potentially) increase readership. I get that some people are a bit down, I am/was too....but does anyone seriously think for one second that Terry, the players, the Chairman or anyone else didn't/don't want the club to be achieving as much as possible? Nobody ever heard of trying to look on the bright side when disappointing things happen?

Putting in Foran for OTJ would be the move I think, then trying to get a replacement for Foran's position. Richie has done well as a defensive mid, considering he's always played as a striker or left-sided forward. We could probably have an extra season or two out of him in that position and he has the footballing brain to excel in that post.

Different in that McKay scores goals and Fallon doesn't!
